You are correct. He gave Groce notice in April, was home in New Castle/ Indy in May and Stevens told Collier he was leaving end of June with July recruiting coming up. He was an assistant so short that I did not remember that part of the timeline. New Castle was abuzz during the courtship http://www.indystar.com/article/201...hing-search-down-Brandon-Miller-LaVall-Jordan. Still remember watching him lose to Anderson his last HS game in the Richmond gym at Sectionals.

The issue arouse out of some crass and offensive drunken behavior he displayed at a restaurant/bar. It was witnessed by a family who wrote a letter to the Athletic Director, and sent video of some of his actions.
Jans was fired "for cause"...

Gregg Marshall is considering re-hiring disgraced coach Chris Jans back as an assistant at Wichita State-

The final open coaching spot was just filled-
Alcorn State just hired Montez Robinson, who was an assistant at Bethune Cookman for the past 4 seasons.
http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcspo...nces-hiring-of-montez-robinson-as-head-coach/

So just to sum it all up-
Alcorn State (RPI 348 ) is the 4th worst team out of all 351 Division I schools. They haven't come close to a winning season in 13 years.
They haven't had an RPI less than 300 for the past 11 years
They have been without a head basketball coach since January 6, 2015 when Luther Riley left for personal reasons.
Their Interim Head Coach was relieved of duties after the season ended.
They also announced March 24, 2015, that they would not renew Luther Riley's contract
So they have spent the last 5 weeks doing a coaching search to find the best coach capable of turning around one of the most pathetic programs in Division I history.
And after 5 weeks of searching, they hire an inexperienced (no head coaching experience, 4 years assist. at Bethune Cookman, and 6 years assist. at Kennesaw State and prior to that he helped run summer camps), young (33) assistant coach . He has never been a head coach anywhere, and every school he has ever assisted at never came remotely close to a winning season. His most recent school, Bethune Cookman, had an RPI these last 2 seasons of 346 and 342 (by comparison, Alcorn State's last two RPI's were 348 & 316).

Just my uneducated observation, but the only logical reason they'd hire another head coach who has no past record of success, no past record of recruiting successful players, and has never worked at a D1 school that ever came close to a winning record, must be because he was willing to take less money than the other 1000+ assistant coaches in D1 who are more successful.
If you were a fan of Alcorn State basketball (they averaged 656 per game), would this hire excite you?

Lookng like there may be one more DI coaching vacancy...

as Florida's Billy Donovan seriously contemplating taking the job as head coach of Oklahoma City Thunder (NBA)

It's being reported that the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder is close to a contract agreement with Florida head coach Billy Donovan. An announcement could come as soon as Thursday.
http://www.si.com/nba/2015/04/29/oklahoma-city-thunder-billy-donovan-coaching-rumors

If this happens, it will be very interesting to see what Florida will do. The Florida job would be a highly desirable job, and they have lots of football money. Do they go for an assistant, or for an established, successful head coach?
Their money could coax a lot of big time coaches away from their current jobs. Would Gregg Marshall consider the job (yes, I know he just signed an extension, but I'll bet there are escape clauses).
Or does Marshall think if he waits, he might have a shot at Duke or North Carolina?

One of WIU's top assistants - Wade Hokenson, who has been there since the beginning of the Molinari era - has been "let go" - no official announcement.

The deal is done- Billy Donovan is leaving Florida to coach the Oklahoma City Thunder-
http://www.slamonline.com/nba/report-okc-thunder-to-hire-billy-donovan-as-head-coach/

here's an article linking all these Billy Donovan happenings to Jim Les!!!

-"Frank Layden sent Donovan into the coaching profession, after a temporary stop as an investment broker, by keeping Jim Les over Donovan as John Stockton's backup."

-"Who knows where Donovan's career would have gone if the Jazz had kept him instead of Les .. Donovan would have become an NBA head coach long before now."

-Improved play but both the Jazz & the Trailblazers - plus games missed by their stars, resulted in a drop in wins by the Thunder and their coach got fired-
setting the stage for Donovan being hired now to coach against the Jazz!

Ben Jacobson listed as one possibility to replace Donovan at Florida

If I were Jake I'd take that gig if offered. Good tradition, good pay...oh and the weather is a little bit nicer than Cedar Falls in the winter.
