points of concern

DU Brave-I did not mean this as a "dig" at the students but rather a "defense" of the long term season ticket holders. They do a good job of showing up and supporting the University over a long period of time through the good and the bad.

We have a very energetic/supportive group of student fans but it is not huge. It gets bigger when we are having a really good year but it seems to vary a lot if things are not going well while more of the "blue hairs" show up year in year out. Just my opinion.

Okay I understand what you mean and that is pretty much how I took it. I think it would be great if the students did show up more but honestly I don't know how to get them there. The university offers students a bus there and a bus back, and if they don't want to take a bus, there are places to park for free if you look around enough and tickets only cost us $1. Until we build up that prestige that other schools have, we won't have the students like they do.

Since the NIT season following the Sweet 16 it seems to me that student attendance has declined every year. For whatever reason, it doesn't seem like a lot of the students get behind the team. I think it all goes back to either bringing in big names or winning. Michigan State was packed hours before the game. isu and Creighton will always be packed. But many students don't care about Loyola or Western Carolina or schools they don't care about. If Bradley was successful in conference, won the valley tournament, or made it to the NCAA's would students show up in big numbers? No doubt in my mind.
But many students (like some other fans) wont get behind the CBI or CIT. I would guess most of the students who either post or lurk on this board would be at Carver no matter what, but it is the "fair-weather" students who haven't shown up that make the student section empty. As embarrassing as it is to me, we can't even fill an end zone, and that is including a huge band. How do we get the student section full? BradleyBrave said it best. Just win, baby.

As for the Cameron Crazies, I could be wrong but I was always under the impression that they appeared as Coach K and Duke started having a great deal of success. I thought they coincided with the rise of the Blue Devil teams, not brought the team up the the level of fan support. And they didn't just get their reputation from being loud. They were very creative, but also vicious. Would that go over as well in Peoria? Who knows.

Just my $.02

Great post, especially concerning the Crazies at Duke. I thought what little student section we had Wednesday night did a great job sending Martin to the bench after he fouled out! I love seeing that kind of enthusiasm at the games! Someone in my area, half-jokingly, said that's not very sportsmanlike. To which I replied......neither is booing your own team.

I never said that SM wasn't coming to the ball, he was probably no more than 10 feet from DSE when it was inbounded, but by giving it to DSE it allowed SM to slip to the other side of the court without anyone really on him because his defender left to go after DSE. I would imagine that if DSE wouldn't have been open to get the pass then SM would've leaned off the defender to create a space and receive the pass.

As far as the other comments about the students, what do you think we should do? Games are promoted, albeit not very strongly, but there are plenty of avenues for students to get to the games if they choose to.

"Then before they fouled DSE, you could see SM heading towards the other side of the court that was wide open. So if DSE didn't get fouled, he would've had SM wide open on the opposite side to avoid a double team and get fouled to go to the line."

That is what you said and what you said is before DSE was fouled SM heading towards the other side of the court. That tells me SM was NOT coming to the ball.

Regardless no reason is valid enough to justify giving the ball, on an inbounds, to a ft shooter shooting it less then 50% on the season. SM should have the ball in his hands in that situation every single time.

Free food/drinks at BU games, or perhaps at sponsoring downtown restaurants after the game will get students there...:)

1 Defense needs to get a lot better
2 poor substitution pattern continues
3 continue to start badly in the 2nd half
4 this has been the worse year as far as our fan enthusiasm has been since I started attending BU games in 1969, we have not been the great 6th man for our team this year.
5 the booing has got to stop even though I know how frustrated it has been to lose games that we should have won but you just don"t boo your own team or coach, remember that they want to win just as bad as we want them to.
Points 1 2 and 3 came true once again today, post game Jim stated he was going to make changes in lineup but other then Dyricus no one off the bench did much of anything, rebounding was bad because our guys do not jump or get up on the glass and no one off the bench rebounded other then Dyricus, I think we over valuated are talent compared to the rest of the conf. teams and now I am afraid we are one of the 4 worst teams, not acceptable to lose like this to a team that has a coach in his 2nd season.

Rebounding is far more related to desire, footwork and boxing out, than leaping ability.

I know JL has said line-up changes are coming, does anyone think he'll go young trying to get them more experience for the future?

I'm not sure who should get the most minutes after today.

I agree to an extent about your explanation on rebounding but at times our players were in position to get the rebound had they jumped , I also feel that boxing out is overated as I see a player box out his man that could have gotten the rebound only to watch someone else get the rebound in front of him off the floor.

I find myself wishing I didn't agree with you:(

Cheaper Beer + Better Floor Product + Elimination of Poor PA Interruptions + Better Marketing + Exciting Pregame Intros = More Students

Winning and winning some more would help. Winning cures all. Right now the band wagon that pulled out of Vegas seems to have four flat tires. This could end up being a long season.
