Fishy Voting in the "Rate Jim Les II poll...

TAS- I am sorry it looks that way. Someone is trying to make it appear as if we are doing this, but I assure you none of the people with moderating priviledges here are doing this.
Why would anyone connected with this site do this, especially a second time, when it would be obvious to everyone?
It is especially obvious when the hacker puts up 15 "A" votes at once!
It appears to me to be the work of a hacker, who is trying to make a mockery of the poll. If he was trying to simply alter the poll's result, I have to think he wouldn't be so obvious.
I have contacted a software tech to help us try to find the cause of the problem, because it obviously affects the security of this board.

If you find out who, I totally aspect you to come forward with the name:!: So we can have a hanging:eek:

I think the following means we could have been hacked.
This comes from a service tech at vBulletin- the software we use for this board:
re: vBulletin version 3.8.* (which is the version used by this board)-
An exploit in our input validation has recently been discovered. This could allow a brute force attack to comprise and spoof input data for a given user. To resolve this issue, it is necessary to release a patch level version of the active versions of vBulletin.
The upgrade process is the same as previous patch level releases - simply download the patch from the Members Area, extract the files and upload to your webserver, overwriting the existing files. There is no upgrade script required.
As with all security-based releases, we recommend that all customers upgrade as soon as possible in order to prevent any potential damage resulting from the flaw being exploited.

Does anyone know what this means?

BS, I think it's a inside job:!: My question is, has ID's been reviled:eek:

The really basic version of it is saying that someone is cracking the password of various accounts and logging into those accounts. It's feasible.

Look at the accounts that voted in the 2 voting threads, and look at the IP addressess the accounts with 0 posts were accessed from. If you find them matching or close to matching, you've found your culprit.

You should definitely check those accounts.

Thanks, that's what I thought it said.
The IP address of the accounts all show the same blank IP logged on yesterday and today. According to my tech consultant, it means the hacker is posting by using a proxy server and using software that hides the IP address. We are unlikely to be able to trace this any further, but we will be upgrading the software with a patch to prevent this vulnerability from being exploited again.

I doubt I will change the minds of those who suspect it was a moderator here, but I have verified that these events took place when no moderator was online. Also, none of our mods have the sophistication to do these things. This was clearly done by someone with computer expertise and knowledge of vBulletin software and it's flaws, and who wanted to punk us. Sounds to me like someone desperate for attention, and not someone working here.

And again I will use the logic that if someone here wanted to falsify the results of a silly poll, I doubt they would have done it in such a way to be so obvious, nor does it make sense that they would do it again the next day on the same poll when we would be on guard for it.
I can only apologize and take whatever steps are necessary to prevent it from happening again.
Here is more about this vBulletin problem-

What's sad is the previous dealings with the way this board has conducted itself in regards to unnecessary censorship, and deleting of posts and posters by a select few in an effort to stifle opinions that don't agree with those of the people "in charge".

The very fact that many of the posters to this site all saw the results of the poll and came to the same conclusion on their own without even thinking twice says a lot about how we feel about this kind of treatment. The message board is supposed to be a place for healthy discourse, not the deletion/editing of posts that don't fall in line with the moderators. What good is a message board if one side of an argument gets quelled on a daily basis without merit?

Whether this was in inside job or not remains to be seen, but the fact that many of us came to the same conclusion says a lot. There has been a consistent history of this stuff happening. It needs to change. My voice and opinions should be just as valuable as those of EVERYONE else who chooses to participate on this board.

This is a Bradley message board, we all love the team and this program. We criticize because we care.

Please tell me I'm not alone on this.

You know, you don't have to come here if you hate it. The board is privately run. If you don't like the way it is being run, go somewhere else. You're never going to find a board that allows people to remain anonymous and also say whatever they want without some moderation. It's a recipe for disaster.

That is correct, but then who would be left.

I don't hate it here; never once have I said that. There is a lot of good information about the team that makes this a valuable board. But why continue to sit around and watch this stuff happen time and time again without a call for change? I want this board to be the best it can be. I wouldn't say anything if I saw this as an isolated incident. I'm not some newbie that just gets on here to bash the program either; I've been around since 2006.

There hasn't been anything similar to this on this site before.
We do remove posts that cross the line and violate rules that attack players, coaches, or other posters personally, and we will continue to do so.
Again, this was an obvious attack by someone from the outside- random or not, who intended for this to be caught and cause this kind of furor.
I assure everyone that this was not and could not have been done by anyone who moderates or runs this site.

Then why do accounts get deleted? This alienation and divisiveness of the fanbase only serves to go against the intended goals of this board: to allow Bradley fans to get together to discuss the happenings of the program.

Deletions and banning occurs on every message board. If not there would be complete chaos.
I am not going to discuss the specific cases of deletions and banning here, but suffice to say that each case is well warranted, and involves repeated and wanton rules violations, usually by individuals with agendas.

And what about the unnecessary editing of posts by moderators?

If everyone would refer to the rules of this forum it would answer ALL of your questions, concerns and complaints about this forum. From the rules:

This is not a government-run forum, nor does it receive any outside funding. The forum is privately owned and run entirely by Bradley fans who volunteer their time. There is no 1st Amendment right to post here. Do not complain about censorship if you don't like the decisions of moderators. If you're looking for a forum where you can say whatever you want, you are free to start your own website, or we can refer you to another forum.

Bottom line: If you don't like the rules either leave or don't post..... or accept that THIS FORUM IS NOT RUN LIKE A DEMOCRACY and your posts can/might be altered or deleted. I'm not saying it's right, wrong, or indifferent...... It is what it is.

I'm just trying to have a rational discussion about the dealings of this board, because I feel like I'm not alone on this. It's been happening for a long time, and has only seemed to increase now that we're having a rough season and people are starting to question publicly the direction this program is heading.

The editing of other's posts, and the deletion of things that don't fall in line with the viewpoints of those in charge calls into question the integrity of the board as a whole.

At some point, I would think, there has to be an "agree to disagree" moment, then you either stay and follow the rules, or move on. Putting accusations in your sig that the mods have repeatedly denied does nothing to do that. It just continues to stir the pot, and does nothing to make the board a more positive place to be.

I don't want the Les haters to go, I don't want the blind defenders to go. There are plenty of "fire Les" posts around here. I've read them repeatedly. I do want people to show respect for people's opinions, and I also want people to remember that they see BU basketball from their perspective, which is usually the stands. So when fans give their opinions from solely that perspective, they need to realize that they might be wrong every once in awhile.
