Bradley 2021-22 schedule

The Bradley men's basketball MVC schedule was just released-

In addition, the PJ Star has a new article with additional information about the team.
The Bradley basketball team will start practicing again following the campus-wide quarantine that was imposed 2 weeks ago.
And, according to Coach Wardle, everyone is healthy-

A couple significant points-
  • Bradley is still working hard to complete their non-conference schedule- it could include up to 6 non-conference games plus a 3-game Multi-Team Event (a total of 9 non-conference games is now the maximum)
  • Bradley wants to remain committed to the Paradise Jam (tentatively relocated to Washington DC- dates unknown), but will keep their options open in case the new rescheduled dates don't work out
  • There are many other Multi-Team Events that are still looking for additional participants, so Bradley still could switch
  • Wardle hopes to keep the nonconference games already contracted this season - road games at Toledo, Missouri and Tulsa & home games against Miami (Ohio), Saint Joseph and South Dakota State. But the dates could change.
  • Wardle’s goal is to have the full schedule completed by mid-October when official practice begins.

Most of the Paradise Jam teams have reportedly opted out of the tournament. The organizers are trying to salvage the event, but moving it to Washington DC seems like the stupidest thing they could have done. Who the hell wants to play a tournament in DC, when there are lots of warm weather events available. It almost seems like whoever made that decision was trying to sabotage it.

The best thing about the Paradise Jam was the location anyway and now that it's in DC I wouldn't miss it. Here are some tournaments with openings in better locations--

Hall of Fame Classic in KC w/ TCU, South Carolina, NW
Cancun Challenge in Melbourne FL w/ Purdue, Clemson, Mississippi State (ISU just opted out for some reason)
Las Vegas Invitational w/ New Mexico, Santa Clara, Grand Canyon
Wooden Legacy in Anaheim w/ Kansas, Virginia, UCLA
MGM Resorts Invitational- Arkansas, San Francisco, Colorado State

As I posted elsewhere, Illinois State just withdrew from the Cancun Classic-

That leaves an opening and this would be a significant upgrade over the Paradise Jam. The Cancun Classic has been moved to Melbourne, Florida, and the format includes 2 "pods". The top group still has Purdue, Clemson, and Mississippi State, and whoever fills that 4th slot would play 2 of those 3 teams in Florida. But there might also be one or two home games with the lower level pod, which consists of Buffalo, East Tennessee State, Rider, & Georgia Southern. I suspect the organizers will have a number of quality teams calling.

But there are still a number of other tournaments looking for participants, and most seem to be as good or better events than the current Paradise Jam.
Here are the other holiday tournaments

I wonder if BW likes the Paradise Jam because of our more than realistic chance at winning it?

Maybe. But there might be a greater benefit to locking quickly into a new tournament with better opponents.
Here is what Coach Wardle said about the Paradise Jam just earlier this week-
https://www.pjstar.com/sports/20200...or-bradley-basketball-team-as-quarantine-ends

“We’re still in conversations with them,” Wardle said. “We want to honor our commitment to the Paradise Jam. But if the dates don’t work out we’ll definitely look for another MTE (multi-team event) to get into. There’s a lot of MTEs not full all over the country. We’ll try to stay in the Midwest region. But we’ll also make sure to put our program in a safe environment and in the best position we can to play quality teams and succeed. But right now, nothing is solidified.”

That doesn't sound like he is overly attached to the Paradise Jam, and that was before the report about several of the teams pulling out. And this comment- "We'll try to stay in the Midwest region", seems to suggest to me that they would readily switch to a different tournament, now that the Paradise Jam has decided to move to Washington, DC, and now that there are new uncertainties about who will be in the tournament. I am sure they don't want to be left holding the bag if they stay committed too long, and end up being in the tournament with much lower-D1 opponents, and not as many other options.

The first day of college basketball games is exactly 8 weeks from today- November 25, 2020. There are no exhibition games this season, and I don't expect we'll see a Red-White type of scrimmage, or open practices.
We don't know yet whether Bradley will play a game on the Nov. 25 date, but expect there to be multiple games in the first week. There are only 5 weeks between the start of the season (Nov. 25) and the start of the MVC conference games (Dec. 31) to play the entire non-conference schedule.

The schedule on the BU site only shows the conference games starting on 12-31 against SIU. Any idea if the Missouri game is still on the docket?

Tommy - are you getting concerned that perhaps this means the entire non-con has been cancelled for Bradley?

I do not know anything about this game, but I suspect Bradley wants the game to be played and will try to get Missouri to agree. It will probably depend on Missouri and how they will have to juggle their non-conference schedule. Probably a buy game like this may not as high on their priority list as other games they want to play.

Thanks coach. Got my fingers crossed - hoping that to be a road trip game this year. That would be a nice road victory to attend!

The non con schedule is not cancelled but adjustments have been made. Another 3 game tourney has been found and Missouri still wants to play. A date needs to be worked out.

Could the new tournament be this one that is being organized by the same group that ran the Paradise Jam?-

If so, I hope they consider a better location than Washington DC.

I am also hearing that Bradley will probably be participating in the 2021 Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands, which will have a better field than the 2020 was going to have.
