2015-2016 Coaching Carousel

Illinois State seeing more exodus of talent...
they lose another assistant on their basketball coaching staff.

Will Veasley, who functioned as ISU's Director of Basketball Operations
is hired as an assistant for the North Dakota State ...

Dan Muller beginning to fill his vacancies...
reportedly will hire former Monmouth assistant Brian Reese to the ISU staff
Brian Reese most recently was head coach of a really obscure DII Georgian Court University (which was all-female until 2014)- and was 5-21 and was rumored a couple days ago to be out...but now jumps to an assistant spot in the MVC.

one other item of interest...
a copy of a DI schools contract with the search firm Parker Executive Search...
just to show the kind of clauses involved...
BTW - this article also has a mention of Bradley's search for Brian Wardle...
http://www.nycbuckets.com/2016/05/parker-executive-search-stony-brooks/

what's interesting is all the confidentiality language and yet some reporter readily got a copy of this contract and posts it publicly.

BTW - Parker Executive Search is also involved in the search for the new President at FGCU (this article points out problems that Parker had in recent past hiring for poorly vetting candidates)

Illinois State seeing more exodus of talent...
they lose another assistant on their basketball coaching staff.

Will Veasley, who functioned as ISU's Director of Basketball Operations
is hired as an assistant for the North Dakota State Bisons under former UNI assistant Dave Richman

Very happy for Will to get his first D1 assistant coaching spot. Always good to see good people move up the ranks. Was apparently known before Dollar left ISU, so makes you wonder if Dan would have given him the job at ISU. Guess we'll never know.

several DI's still have open assistant coaching spots....including Stony Brook, where it was rumored Geno Ford had interest...
New Stony Brook head coach Jeff Boals (a college teammate of Geno's at Ohio) retained one assistant from Steve Pikiell's staff (LINK) and hired one assistant & a DBO in April, but has yet to complete his staff and has one assistant spot still open.

Saw these articles - some strange happenings at Wichita State University..

"an internal review" at Wichita State led the Athletic Director to summarily fire the tennis coach and give no explanation...
http://www.kansas.com/sports/college/wichita-state/article81702082.html

One of the Wichita baseball assistant coaches has a 5-year/$166,924/yr contract - bigger and longer by far than any assistant coach just about anywhere and better than a lot of head coaches..
and nobody can figure out why since the guy has had most of his coaching & recruiting duties taken away from him.
Strange....oh, and of course nobody at Wichita State wants to talk about it...
http://www.kansas.com/sports/college/wichita-state/article81947942.html

the Wichita beat guy really been doing some digging...but still...
"..report on Wichita State athletics may not be released for another week or longer
WSU charged the consultants to investigate possible options for a new conference and adding sports, including football.

...report won’t include recommendations or conclusions....doesn’t expect the report to satisfy all the curiosity about WSU’s options when it comes to specifics about meetings and conversations .....
..."...those conversations are so private...There won’t be lot of things documented in there about conversations that have been ongoing … just from a privacy standpoint and a confidentiality standpoint, that wouldn’t be welcomed very much.”..

Former Bradley DBO & Asst Coach Cole Pittis is Special Asst to the Head Coach and also helps as Video Coordinator at Akron basketball

...
Wright State - Billy Donlan fired - Scott Nagy hired...

details of what it took to lure Scott Nagy away from SD State

Wright State had to give him a $500K guarantee for five years - more than doubling his previous $225K salary at SDSU
Wright State had previously been paying their former coach $225K as well.

I suspect that $500K would put Nagy among the upper half of MVC coaches in salary..

also - one other hire of relevance...
Coach Jim Les at UC-Davis filled the open assistant coach spot on his staff...
Assistant Chris Davis had been with him 5 years but left to pursue other opportunities,
and Coach Les has hired Jonathan Metzger-Jones - former Montana asst.

New Vandy head coach Bryce Drew makes one of his first acts after getting hired...

in other news...one of the New Mexico assistant AD's who was "let go" in the middle of an embezzlement scandal....is still on the payroll...
...getting a cushy, sweetheart 2-year deal...

Very interesting hire for SYRACUSE's new Athletic Director

They hired one of ESPN's top executives & 36-year career ESPN guy as their new AD - a guy who has absolutely zero prior experience in college sports, college administration or athletics administration, the ever-important compliance or even any experience at all in college sports other than programming & communication.
His degree is in Public Communications...so he will get Syracuse on TV a lot and in the ESPN highlights - but it's an odd hire since being an AD is so much more...

His hiring is described as
"outside the box"

... the firing of Saint Louis' Jim Crews probably means that former Bradley assistant Jim Platt is also likely fired

Former BU assistant Jim Platt was fired by SLU but now is hired as
Director of Player Development at Tulsa under head coach Frank Haith.
Platt formerly worked as assistant at Tulsa from 1995-97

He was an assistant at Bradley just one year 2010-11, and he worked with Jim Molinari on DePaul's staff way back in the 1980's

Drake fans wanted the AD & basketball coach both sent packing and start over...

But Drake AD Sandy Hatfield Clubb said that Drake's MBB coach Ray Giacoletti will return in 2016-17
http://www.desmoinesregister.com/st...ason-bulldogs-future-remains-bright/81337162/

well, the Drake fans have finally gotten their wishes...

First Drake fired Giacoletti and hired Niko Medved...

Now - their AD Sandy Hatfield-Clubb is leaving and they will hire a new Athletic Director - announcement just made within the past 15-20 min
