Time to start the next version of the coaching carousel since it really isn't 2014-15 any more..

Porter Moser is about to lose one of his assistant coaches. He just hired Steve Shields 3 weeks ago -

http://www.loyolaramblers.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/steve_shields_973012.html

there are reports that Shields is about to be hired for a spot at Mizzou
http://www.columbiatribune.com/spor...cle_7dd7652b-d16d-5472-9e97-4dc5e6b360cb.html

Shields has lots of recruiting connections to the Texas & Oklahoma junior colleges and a lot of years of coaching experience at the DI level.

Reportedly one of the past greats at UNI just got hired as an assistant at Creighton under his old coach Greg McDermott, Matt Schneidermann

SIU & Barry Hinson have promoted their Grad Assistant Justin Walker to Director of Basketball Operations.

BTW - one other note on Barry Hinson...
You can buy his own personal recipe BARBECUE SAUCE at the SIU Bookstore...
proceeds go to charity

Barry's commercial catch phrase is....
"If this ain't the best barbecue sauce you've ever had...
YOU"RE A LIAR!"

$8 a bottle is a little steep. Let us know if it was worth it.

Well, here's my review...I bought a couple bottles and have used it on ribs and other items...

First- the flavor- I loved it - it's just a little bit tangy/spicy maybe a little more than most kids would like but I have to admit I really loved it.

The only thing I would choose to criticize is that the sauce is very thin and runny - almost the kind of texture as buttermilk - and if you are not careful when you tip the bottle to pour, you're gonna get a whole lot more than you bargain for. So if pressed to suggest how they might change it - I'd say thicken it up.
Some people correlate thin & runny with cheap ..........and thick with rich & concentrated flavor.

The last thing - would I spend $8 a bottle for more?? -
sorry, Barry, the answer is nope....as much as I liked it I'd have to say I do not believe it that much better than many other sauces to warrant 2 to 3 time the price (plus what you'd have to pay to have it shipped from the SIU bookstore) of most other quality sauces.

There is a report that Manual HS assistant David Williams has been hired as assistant coach at Black Hawk College
...Congrats Coach!

I know this is mentioned elsewhere..
Wisconsin's Bo Ryan ends his career and retires
He leaves while Wisconsin is 7-5 and struggling a bit this season, with assistant coach Greg Gard to take over.

His career numbers as a coach are:
Overall- 747-233
At Wisconsin-Platteville (15 seasons)- 323-76
At Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2 seasons)- 30-27
At Wisconsin (14 1/3 seasons)- 364-130

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...o-ryan-earned-right-walk-away-whenever-wanted

This would have been Bo Ryan's real chance to prove his coaching prowess, since he lost a lot of top talent and isn't as good or deep this year...
But seriously, he still has Top 100 kids and potential future draft picks - so if he did extremely well again this year- say returned to the Final Four,
then I think he would have cemented his legacy as a really great coach.
By suddenly departing mid-year like this, there will be those who say he bailed before the had a bad season, or that he quit on them...
or that he left because he knew he no longer had the talent to carry him leaving some to doubt his ability to coach a team without NBA-caliber kids.

A surprising and unusual move-
UNLV Head Coach Dave Rice, who Bradley pursued and offered their coaching job to in 2011 when he was an assistant at BYU, has been fired in mid-season by UNLV tonight (Sunday, 1/10).
UNLV was picked 4th in the 2015-16 Mountain West preseason poll, but they have started with 3 close losses to start their conference season..
His overall record at UNLV in 4 1/2 seasons is 98-54. He won 26 games his first year (2011-12), then 25 his second season (2012-13), and 20 his 3rd season (2013-14). Then he dropped to 18-15 last year (2014-15), and 9-7 (0-3 in the MWC) this season. His teams made the NCAA tournament in 2012 and 2013 and were eliminated in their first games. UNLV had one of the top rated recruiting classes this past year, but it hasn't translated into enough wins yet.

Associate Head Coach Todd Simon (formerly head coach at Findlay Prep in Las Vegas) will take over as Interim Head Coach.

" the school announced Rice had resigned. The truth is he was forced out.

"After quite a bit of discussion, we mutually agreed I would step aside," Rice said.
"I want to do what's right for everyone involved...."

Rice ...had no plans to resign, and (UNLV athletic director) Kunzer-Murphy
acknowledged as much, although she refused to admit he was fired.

"Dave is not a quitter," Kunzer-Murphy said. "We mutually agreed for him to step aside."

"It had become obvious a change was imminent, and with the approval of UNLV President Len Jessup,
Kunzer-Murphy took the unusual step of dumping her basketball coach midseason."

..he was fired now because several powerful boosters no longer wanted to support his
underachieving program and because Kunzer-Murphy said she was aware that many angry fans wanted him gone.

In March 2014, Kunzer-Murphy recommended Rice's contract be extended two years through the 2018-19 season."

Rice will be paid around $1 million by UNLV, receiving the balance of his remaining base salary
($300,000 per year) for the rest of this year and the three years left on his contract."

sounds like she was responding to a few wealthy, influential boosters and made him and offer he couldn't refuse.

The more I read about this, the more I think this is a real bush league move by their AD ..... which will hurt their chances of getting quality
candidates to replace Rice.
Even before the season started, the AD showed a lack of confidence in Rice and PLACED HIM ON THE HOT SEAT kinda like what happened here when the head coach had his legs cut out from under when his assistants were fired and replaced by higher ups.

We've seen this kind of disrespect for head coaches before - and when it does occur, the school will end up
having to interview 12 to 15 new candidates, then upping the ante before finding anyone willing to work for them.
Either that or they'll get no interested candidates and be forced to hand the job to an unqualified assistant just because he's the only one who'll take it.

btw- they have a couple of really talented kids committed but not signed and...
their roster has at least THREE kids who we were recruiting...

add another top change to the list..

Manhattan just fired their Athletic Director - a guy who just took over last year when the former guy got a highly publicized DUI.

no word on why this sudden change is being made in the middle of the academic & athletic school year..
the fact that they already have a new guy picked out and hired before even announcing that the old guy is out - is odd...

reports that there's a big push for UNLV to hire the head coach of in-state rival New Mexico State - Marvin Menzies - who has always done extremely well with far less talent than many...

Former UNLV star Reggie Theus' name also keeps getting mentioned. he is currently the head coach at Cal State Northridge. But it seems more likely they will try to land a bigger name who has had more proven head coaching success.

Not to get nit picky, but UNLV (Nevada) and New Mexico State aren't in state rivals. Unless I missed something where Nevada and New Mexico are now the same state. ;)
