2015-2016 Coaching Carousel

New UNLV head coach Marvin Menzies is going to have to grab as many spring recruits he can find just to get enough players on his roster next season to compete.
http://www.abqjournal.com/758443/sp...ire-nmsu-basketball-coach-marvin-menzies.html

He inherits a tough situation, though. Between transfers, graduated players and those who have declared for the NBA Draft, the Rebels have only four players currently on the roster. And one of those, Ben Carter, already has received his release as a possible graduate transfer, though he has said he may not leave. The team doesn??™t have a single Class of 2016 recruit who has signed a binding letter of intent. And the program, as athletic director Tina Kunzer-Murphy said last week, could be facing Academic Progress Rate penalties from the NCAA which, depending on severity, could lead to scholarship reductions, practice restrictions and even postseason bans.

Interesting housecleaning...

Heartland Community College (juco in Normal, IL) is terminating the AD from that position and eliminating his position... (as well as other positions) and saving $1.5 mil in the process!
Any work of the AD would be absorbed by people in other positions.
http://www.pantagraph.com/news/loca...cle_7841cdc1-c7f7-5f19-8cb8-cf61ec997129.html

The Heartland AD is Nate Metzger - also the baseball coach - a position he is not losing, and they went thru this back in 2013 as well then re-instated the AD position.

BTW - with two Michigan assistants hired elsewhere (LaVall Jordan & Bacari Alexander) - the talk there is
that John Beilein's son Pat Beilein (ex-BU assistant) will get hired at Michigan as assistant.

someone asked me today why neither Rob Judson nor Jerrance Howard got hired for a head coaching spot this spring...

well, I have no idea, maybe they were called or interviewed, but...
either way, I think the reasons it didn't happen are pretty obvious..and it sure isn't because they aren't great candidates - and I'll bet it does happen some day.
Judson has been a head coach and just this past year one of his own close friends left the IU staff (Steve McClain) to be hired elsewhere and left the spot for Rob to move up!
Jerrance was willing to leave if the position paid well and was ideal - and that was his own home town school - but it got torpedoed.

But, the reasons -
First- this spring there were a remarkably high number of positions that were really LOW majors that I have to think would be bad or dead end jobs where you'd never be able to win - jobs like Army, Jacksonville State, Prairie View A&M, NC A&T, UTRGV, etc...
It's hardly any wonder that a top assistant at a TOP BCS-caliber school wouldn't even submit a resume for such a low level position.

Then, you gotta remember - that those top BCS schools pay their assistant upwards of $250,000, $300,000 and more!!!
Very few midmajor jobs pay anywhere close to that! (the guy hired to replace Wardle at Green Bay, Linc Darner, is getting just over $200K)
So - again, why would anyone leave a secure job with perks earning $300K to take a shaky position that's a total rebuild for far less than that?

Then, lastly, at least in the case of Jerrance - the answer is simply because it's KANSAS...
he can afford to be extremely picky and wait until the absolute right spot or best conceivable option comes along BECAUSE IT EVENTUALLY WILL.
That's what we saw when Northwestern came calling for Chris Collins, and Wisconsin finally asked for Greg Gard to take over...

Interesting breaking story brewing on Jeff Neubauer, who is currently the head coach at Fordham where ex-Bradley assistant Jaden Uken is currently an assistant under Neubauer.

Neubauer was also Dr. Joanne Glasser's hire at Eastern Kentucky when Travis Ford left.

Briefly stated, it appears he went to Europe occasionally for scouting/recruiting purposes, and had "affairs" (to choose a 'nice' way to say it) with a Czech woman and now his wife has found out and is tweeting some interesting comments. Some are tweeting calls for his resignation.

based on a few unsubstantiated reports, that this is more complicated than anyone really knows, but hopefully it turns out for the best for all involved.....
..she may have known about this last year but only now is changing her tone due to further actions by her husband...

Illinois State seeing more exodus of talent...
they lose another assistant on their basketball coaching staff.

Will Veasley, who functioned as ISU's Director of Basketball Operations
is hired as an assistant for the North Dakota State Bisons under former UNI assistant Dave Richman

also - former SIU FB head coach Jerry Kill gets REUNITED with Bruce Weber...
he is hired as Associate Athletic Director at Kansas State

Delaware had been without an AD for a while, and was waiting until that spot got filled before hiring a head coach.
Delaware's new AD just started in his position-
http://collegead.com/university-delaware-14/

And now they are interviewing candidates-
http://www.delawareonline.com/story...delaware-hones-hunt-new-hoops-coach/84532846/

They are using the Parker Executive Search firm. But the first person they wanted to interview just backed out already-
