2014-2015 coaching carousel

Southeast Missouri just fired Head Coach Dickie Nutt after 6 seasons. He never had a winning record in the OVC, and never had an RPI better than 221 (284 this season).
SEMO also just fired their women's basketball coach - Ty Margenthaler -
he's son of Jack Margenthaler - past men's coach at WIU, and Ty was a women's assistant under Paula Buscher at Bradley from 2000-2006

Geno Ford still the only MVC coach fired so far...
Rumor has it by the end of the day Arizona State's Herb Sendek might be out

The Augustana head coach Grey Giovanine just won the DIII Coach of the Year...
could he be in the mix to get a DI job? - If you recall - he was close friends with Chin Coleman.

if you read the story - it is apparent the one-year extension was a carrot on a stick - with numerous possible extras including 1 or 2 more years automatically added on to his contract extension with raises if he achieved certain specified levels of success.

I think this was posted in another thread, but here it is again. Aabama has lots of football and BCS money to throw around, and they are prepared to throw at least $3 million at Gregg Marshall in an attempt to hire him away from Wichita State-
Alabama prepared to make big run at Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall

Marshall was interviewed by Jim Rome yesterday, and said he'd listen to Alabama's offer. This article claims the Alabama offer is "close to $4 million"....

You know I was being facetious, right? After all, we did the same thing with Geno!

Wichita does not have enough money to compete against Alabama for Marshall. They better hope Marshall likes the Midwest and doesn't want to move from Wichita.

Bittersweet if Marshall leaves. Would improve our chances in the Valley, but I sure do like having the type of success he's brought to the MVC. I hope he stays.

I think Marshall finds himself at the crossroads. Does he want to be swimming with the sharks of the SEC, especially at THE football school, and be a little fish in the big ocean. Wichita has become the big fish in the small pond. As long as he is there Wichita is almost guaranteed to be playing in the NCAA tournament. No matter how good a coach he is there's no such guarantee at Alabama.

IMO, at this point, he's proven all he can prove at WSU and in the MVC. Now it is all about money, and he knows he make a lot more, win or lose, with a Big 12, Big Ten, or SEC school.

Fully agree but I have one thought on that.
Look at all the "great" young coaches that took that jump to the next level and failed and all of a sudden they were just another ordinary-or even below ordinary-coach.
It would be a tough call but at Marshall's age I would, probably, take the money and go try it. My ego would tell me to go for it.
Then again, If he stays he controls the town and there are many benefits to that also.

Wichita only has so many resources at its disposal to retain Marshall. If they were fortunate enough to keep him, I'm sure the fans would be expected to help pick up the tab. I would think season tickets would jump quite a bit as well as maintenance fees. I wonder how much fans would be willing to pay to keep him.

He's got 4 million reasons to leave. I can't imagine anyone turning down that type of money, and he'd be set for life if he succeeds or fails.

Mark Price hired at Charlotte
Bill Carmody, ex-Northwestern coach, hired at Holy Cross
Eric Musselman hired at Nevada

Evansville assistant coach Carson Harris leaves to take the head coaching spot at NAIA Marian University

The first head coaching change of the 2014-15 season happened today. Hawaii relieved head coach Gib Arnold of his coaching position today. ...

after Hawaii's basketball coach was fired then the AD left --

they just hired a NEW AD today - a guy who has never been an AD before not even an assistant and actually has never worked in a college athletic department before in his life.
He is a marketing expert who has worked for the past 12 years as organizer & director of Hawaii events such as the Hawaii Bowl, tgicket manager, and director of ESPN events.

The other of the leading finalists who was not selected also never worked in college athletics and was an insurance executive.
