2010 BU Commitment- Andrew Davis

January, 2010: Andrew is a true space eater who has decent skills to go with his size. He reminds me of some of the post players you see at UNI, UW-Milwaukee, Valpo, and others. Andrew is a good player who has a good basketball IQ. He knows what he is good at and sticks with it. Andrew uses his physical nature and size to pound the glass and set screens. When given the ball in the post he has nice patience. He showed a nice jump hook over his right shoulder and a nice 15' jump shot. Defensively, he does not give up space at all while doing a good job of keeping his shoulders square. This could be a nice pick-up for a mid-level school who is looking for someone who is not a high level athlete.

December, 2009: Davis arrived at IMG with his arm in a cast, the result of a broken wrist suffered late in the summer. Because of his rehab and missed time on the court, he slipped under the recruiting radar in the fall. Subsequent nagging injuries have slowed his progress, and he is just now getting back near full strength. Davis can run the floor, and has excellent length - allowing him to block shots, get deflections and keep balls alive on the glass. He is developing his repetoire in the post, and is mobile and athletic enough to play in the pick and pop game on the perimeter. He can make the necessary passes in the halfcourt. Davis needs to finish plays with more aggression, and develop more strength - which will help him control more rebounds at both ends. That should come in the months ahead at IMG. Defensively, he is still prone to unnecessary fouls, but with his length he will overcome that with time. Davis is an excellent student, and if he can stay healthy, can be a steal in the spring signing period.
 
I am happy to sign a 6'10 big but the jury will be out for a while on this one.

The optimist in me looks at these different recruiting evaluations and sees a parallel to another BU player with the words "slipped under the recruiting radar due to an injury".

Sounds just like what the recruiting pundits said about DSE...
 
The ESPN report sounds very promising. I really like to hear about his work ethic.

As some have said, we really need to wait and see with this player. Not many 6' 10" guys come out of high school ready to be major contributors. Many big guys take a couple of years to fill out and get used to the banging they are going to receive and have to give out.

But Army in its current system is closer to Molinari's style (defensive/methodical) than Les'.

But, the good thing is that this indicates Les realizes he may need to experiment and consider new ways of doing things if he hopes to win a Championship.

Maybe so Benni but Jim said he has been schooled very good on skills. If that is true the project may be fast, short and a easy one, compared to some other Bigs we have had:|
 
I really hope we still get MO because this I don't see how this guy fixes any of our problems from last year for at least the next two years, too skinny/raw to be an immediate impact. :(

Well we could have the bigs on the practice squad for our guards to learn how to shoot over taller people??? :idea: ;-):lol:
 
This is great news! Welcome to Bradley AD! Sounds like you've got a great future and a lot of potential ahead of you.

It will be interesting to see if he is an immediate impact player of not, just because he needs some more weight does not mean he won't make an immediate impact. I really like hearing he is a good student and hard worker, I like him already.

I hope MO still comes too, I also want to be greedy. A credit to JL and his staff on their recruiting, as even on a veteran team, we only have potentially 1 more open spot to fill for the following year. The only need on the following year's team I see with over a year to go still is a shooter, but other than that I see no glaring needs these next 2 years! JL has done a terrific job shaping the team for both the present and the future. Excellent recruiting IMO.
 
Sounds like a great pick up for BU. Glad to hear JL thinks he can contribute immediately and he definitely sounds like a big who fits well into our system and the type of player who takes pride in D and rebounding. Also love how committed he sounds to always getting better and helping BU succeed. Sounds like he's been taught to always work for what what you want.
 
I absolutely LOVE reading things like this from the parents of recruits....

???Andrew has an obligation to that program to be as good as he can possibly be. He went to West Point and had such an incredibly good feeling that he was meant to go there. For Bradley to surpass that tells you what he thinks of Bradley. It is such a great fit for Andrew.???
