Coaching "Insider" Confirms that All the Top Coaches Cheat

Gary Williams confirms all the suspicions and observations that I have had for years on college coaches cheating and how easy it is for the "big boys" to get away with it...

In an interview on ESPN Radio, Maryland head coach Gary Williams, flatly stated that many of the top coaches and guys who are given credit for being the best coaches & recruiters, simply are good at cheating and do a lot of it...
I have to admit, I take back all I have said about GW -- He has the guts to stand up and NOT CHEAT and call the cheaters out..
but I am still waiting for him to name names!!

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/2009/07/gary_williams_on_cheaters_and.html

"31 years as a head coach, there's a lot more cheating going on right now than I've ever seen before."

"they'll talk about certain coaches as being great recruiters that I know cheat"

"You know, I got yelled at for not cheating this year. It's unbelievable. They were yelling at me because I wouldn't cheat."

"You look at the Reggie Bush situation at Southern Cal, and then the Tim Floyd situation," .. "That thing's been three years..
... let's face it, ABC needs Southern Cal on Saturday afternoon in the fall. I remember the Clarett situation with Ohio State a few years ago, that just kind of went away because Ohio State draws big numbers when they play. There's a lot of finances involved with the NCAA; in other words, they have a big operating budget. A school like the university of Maryland has 27 sports that someone has to pay for, so they're very reluctant to go after what generates the money."

Basically Gary Williams confirms 100% that the cheating is rampant and the NCAA (and the money that goes to the networks from USC football) are just going to give 'em a pass and let them cheat!

If someone finds an actual transcript of the ESPN interview, please post it...
the article linked above simply confirms that's what Gary said....
cheating is rampant!

T you finally see it my way with GW. Yes he spouts off occasionally but he does say it like he sees it and that has some merit because you know where the guy stands instead of saying one thing and doing another like a lot of other coaches. BTW...GW use to be good friends with Jim Calhoun until GW called him out about a particular recruit that verbaled to MD and the last second ended up at UCONN. It became apparent the Jim Calhoun did not mind playing the same game as the KYs and Kansas of the world.

I somewhat admire his stand and his honesty in that he has now revealed what I have said for years,
that many of the top coaches are cheating big time and getting away royally with it
because the NCAA is as crooked as anyone else.
I still have little respect for the way GW treated Bradley, Missouri State, and all midmajors.

But this is a start...now we need someone with pull to reveal the facts on all the cheaters, and help level the playing field...

Note how Gary says exactly, almost word for word, what I have said for years about the cheating at USC, and how the NCAA is stalling,
looking the other way, and just trying like heck to find a way to ignore it all and make it go away.

But here's what still miffs me MOST about Gary Williams--
it's that it is OBVIOUS that he knows the BCS boys are cheating, he knows the NCAA is in on it and cuts them slack, and even that he doesn't like it..
but then he stops there...in other words...he become complicit with the cheaters by keeping quiet, and shielding them...helping them get away with their cheating!
Do you think for even one millisecond that he'd keep his mouth shut if he had evidence that Bradley was cheating??
He!! NO...he'd unload on Bradley with all the fact he could find to blast BU back into the dark ages if he could...
but he won't do it to his fellow fraternity brothers at the top echelons of college basketball and recruiting.
He will die to protect the Bill Selfs, Tim Floyds, John Caliparis, and Kelvin Sampsons......so in effect he is as bad as the cheaters themselves!!!

Here is a little more on what Gary Williams revealed yesterday in his on-air interview...
but sadly, nobody else seems to be picking up on this, and they are all letting it die, since the media, ESPN, CBS, etc...are all in on this and
can't afford a scandal that might cost them billions if the BCS boys actually get caught cheating!

Thankfully, outside of those few other obscure sources, we have BradleyFans to speak the truth and allow free speech on this issue,
and let the world know that there IS evidence of all the cheating and collusion coming from NCAA!!

Anyone who thinks that coaches in our fav conference don't cheat are simply naive or foolhardy. Cheating goes on at ALL levels of college sports in the major revenue producing sports at least.

I can't speak for little sports like gymnastics, soccer or golf etc. But cheating is done in the major sports. be sure of that. Yes.......even the teams and coaches we support. The severity of the cheating dictates whether or not your get "caught".

I was once employed at a small NAIA school many years ago and said school did plenty of illegal activities that were against NCAA and NAIA regulations. So did the teams in their conference. In fact I was instructed on how to do it as I was responsible for certain aspects of it. It was part of my job. Believe it or not. If it happens there you can be sure it happens in the Valley. It's not exclusive to the "big boys" I can assure you of this.

I support BU and U of MD and I believe they both do not cheat! The severity does not dictate whether or not you get "caught". The severity is dictated on how much money you bring into the NCAA. The more money you bring in the more you can cheat and get away with it, the less the better chance of getting slapped around for not doing to much cheating.

BTW the Senate is looking into the BCS system with Sen. Orin really announcing his findings. I wonder if this will extend to the NCAA.

I agree some NCAA violations are pretty minor, and some are actually inadvertent or accidental..and those are NOT the ones I am even making a hint of...
I am referring only to the blatant, flagrant cheating as we have seen with cash, loans, TV's, clothes, and cars given to players and money funneled through hidden routes like employing relatives and AAU coaches.

Yup, the NCAA four years ago dug around with a vengeance and all they could find was an inadvertent and unintentional summer job issue.
Believe me, had BU actually been cheating, the NCAA would have lowered the hammer. I think the fact they found nothing more than the inadvertent issue, then it speaks highly of how ethical our program is.

too many ncaa rules

too many ncaa rules

Lets just face it, there are to many NCAA rules, each major Div I program has an assistant thats primary job is to monitor and make sure the rules are being followed, or in most cases figure out the loop holes and use them to their benefit. Heres an example, a coach cant talk to a player or his family at certain times right. Well does it say anywhere that he cant talk to the players girlfriend ? Maybe help her get a scholarship to the school somehow? Would this in turn help to influence the recruit, because we all know teenage boys are always chasing girls especially if they think their in love. Im sure there are several other ways to influence a recruit or loopholes that can and are used. I just think the NCAA should back off the rules alot, its gone way overboard.

and thats my two cents

Since the cheating is so rampant, blowing the whistle on a select few could actually be detrimental, because you're still letting a lot of cheaters get away with it.

The bottom line is, do you want a setting where, let's say, 40% of all coaches are proven to be cheating? Does such a widespread scandal hurt the entire scope of college athletics? Of course, it's being hurt today by cheating, but maybe compared to a scandal that could range across literally hundreds of schools, maybe not whistle blowing is the better choice.

Besides, imagine if Gary whistle-blew. The entire college basketball community would shun him forever. It takes someone strong and willing to sacrifice EVERYTHING to blow the lid open on this.

And like it or not, $$$$ rules. Schools use basketball and football revenue to support athletic programs - the NCAA avoids punishing the schools because they don't want to lose the revenue they'd bring. Without the revenue, college sports becomes a lot less viable. It's a fine line.

I agree. Maybe Williams will blow the whistle once he retires. I think the ideal candidate to blow the whistle is Kelvin Sampson............ since he has nothing to lose. He's already been shunned from the college game forever.

Todd Bozeman made it back so I would never say forever.

GW is the type of guy to speak his mine once he is done. The only thing is he is also one that will never leave coaching unless they drag him off. He has spoken about these issues before on local radio for years. He would rather get a bunch of 2-3 star players then have to pimp himself to the AAU guys for those 5 stars. He has lost out on a bunch of players because of this. Love him or hate him he does have morals and 99.9% of the time does the right things for his players without cheating.
