2019 & Beyond Recruiting Targets

Ethan Kizer is currently playing for his Peoria Hollis 8th grade team and has carried them all the way to the Championship game of the IESA State Finals (previous report said the family will move to Metamora and Ethan will then likely play there when in high school)....

As you can see - Ethan is far more physically developed than any other 8th grader - so time will tell if he's able to compete against high schoolers to the same degree - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_UWQg0Gl2I

Ethan Kizer (2023) just finished the 8th grade. It was previously reported that he might attend Metamora HS in the fall. Does anyone know for sure? He apparently lives in Hollis Township where he attended middle school, which I think would feed into Limestone HS, so it might require a move by his family.

Here is a brief video clip of Ethan Kizer competing for the Illinois Irish this spring. He is still dominating his age group-
https://twitter.com/IL_IrishMBB/stat...51660813443072

I can't remember if I could do that in 8th grade. :)

there were prior reports that the family has already moved to Metamora ...
....Ethan's brother Caleb is already playing for Metamora...
there's videos posted on Twitter showing Ethan now playing this summer with the Metamora varsity basketball team...

in the very brief report they have, the PJStar claims he (JaMir Price) will take a scholarship in 2019-20 and so that leaves us with only one remaining...

...I believe they are wrong

...a much more thorough article.....they still say he will "sign during the November signing period"....

.....He can sign this fall - he is eligible to do so, and can then back out & go to prep school - but if he does, we get that scholarship back

Our coaches were and are way ahead of the game - they knew the rules and what is possible, and had this planned from the start to bring Jamir in and work with him all summer, then since he had not enrolled full time, he would not burn a 2019 scholarship, his "clock" would not start and he could head to Prep School, and still enroll to start his career in 2020.

To doubters who may say "but now we're locked in if he doesn't develop" or "if he blows up, he can still change his mind and head elsewhere"....
The answer to those questions is "no .... and ....yes"
No to the first because we are not locked in - altho Coach must see something special in JaMir, but if there's any reason he should not be here in 2020, we would not be obligated.
The 2nd - if he blows up, sure he can go elsewhere but that's true nowadays for everyone on the roster and everyone we have ever offered a scholarship to. Darrell Brown, Jr. could have gone elsewhere - but didn't. Eli and Donte could have but didn't. Something makes me say I doubt he would stiff the only school that truly had faith in him and wanted him. Guys are staying at Bradley out of LOYALTY.

It is confirmed that Bradley is recruiting Nana Akenten again.
https://twitter.com/scottybsc...21817182134272

This is a bit of a strange one.... Nebraska transfer Nana Akenten, a 6'6" sophomore who played a key reserve role on their team last season and who left Nebraska when Tim Miles was fired, was getting interest from a couple major schools, as well as a bunch of good mid-majors. As noted, Bradley was interested.
He has finally committed to SEMO. It seems like a nice get for SEMO.

WEEK/Channel 25's Jim Mattson did a brief video piece on Ethan Kizer, now a freshman at Metamora, and the Curley "Boo" Johnson summer camp..

One time Bradley recruit Jermaine Hamlin, a 6'10", 240 pound center who played at Lincoln, IL High School, and was planning on attending Link Year Prep School in Branson, Missouri has decided to skip prep school and he has committed to Illinois as a 2019 recruit.
https://www.news-gazette.com/sports/...d30db485c.html

He was very lightly recruited out of high school and only had offers from 4 relatively low D1 schools (Purdue-Fort Wayne, Eastern Illinois, South Dakota, and North Dakota). So he decided to attend the prep school, reclassify to a 2020 recruit, and took the unusual step of playing AAU ball the summer after his senior year. This summer he averaged a paltry 3.4 ppg and 3.2 rpg in 19 games. But Illinois head coach Brad Underwood apparently liked his potential, offered him a scholarship, and he accepted.
One of Illinois' other 2019 big man recruits, 6'10", 240 lb. Bernard Kouma, is still pending clearance by the NCAA eligibility center, so maybe Illinois is expecting him not to be cleared.

Bradley also offers a pair of Class of 2020 shooting guards from Rochester MN (formerly from Wisconsin)..
...brothers 6-3 Mason Madsen and 6-4 Gabe Madsen...

A 6'5" shooting guard that our coaches liked and offered over a year ago, Gabe Madsen from Mayo HS in Rochester, Minnesota, has committed to Cincinnati.

Bradley had also offered his twin brother, 6'3" point guard Mason Madsen, but he also committed to Cincinnati today.

2020 Bradley recruit Seryee Lewis has attended 3 Chicago high schools, and is on the move again. He started at Marist HS, then transferred to Kenwood HS where he played last season, then to Morgan Park HS. Before ever playing for Morgan Park, he has now withdrawn from the school and intend to transfer to a prep school (Arizona Compass Prep).

A couple new names-

2019 Rashaun Agee- 6'8" forward from Chicago Bogan HS and Mac Irvin Fire.

2020 Ray'Sean Taylor- 6'1" point guard at Collinsville High School, in Collinsville, Illinois.

One-time 2020 Bradley point guard recruit Ray'Sean Taylor from Collinsville has committed to SIUE and head coach Brian Barone.
Bradley never offered him.
http://verbalcommits.com/players/ray-sean-taylor

Isn't Agee walking on at New Mexico State? Maybe this was mentioned elsewhere.

Rashaun Agee's story is a confusing one. He is a talented big kid (6'8", 220 pounds) and he had several D1 offers out of Chicago Bogan HS.
http://verbalcommits.com/players/rashaun-agee

We reported that Bradley was recruiting him back in January, 2019, but BU never offered.
https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/sp...431#post481431

But despite several D1 schools reportedly offering, he remained uncommitted into May of his senior year, then ended up committing to New Mexico State-
https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/sports-forums/basketball-fan-talk/28005-2019-beyond-recruiting-targets?p=486341#post486341

It was also reported that he will be a walk-on this season at New Mexico State-
http://verbalcommits.com/players/rashaun-agee

And now he is reported to be "redshirting" this season-
https://nmstatesports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6437

It seems obvious this is a case of academic ineligibility, though I have not seen that reported anywhere officially. But for his scholarships to dry up, when decent big men are in high demand, then to commit to New Mexico State, which is renown for landing kids who could not have been admitted anywhere else, and now to be reported to be "red-shirting", it really only fits with the academic ineligibility issue.

As a redshirt walk-on, he will have to pay his own way this year, and the out-of-state tuition and fees, plus room, board, and expenses at NMSU are about $37,000. It defies common sense and logic to believe this kid's family can actually afford $37,000 out-of-pocket expenses just to pay his way for this year at NMSU. But NMSU has a long history of getting kids like Rashaun Agee, who couldn't get admitted anywhere else, and eventually getting them eligible.

tough break for former Bradley recruit Donovan Williams - last night in an AAU game he tore his left knee ACL..
He will have surgery later this month and obviously be out for at least 6 months but his entire senior high school season may be in jeopardy.
He had not yet met with new head coach Fred Hoiberg but was still holding his commitment to Nebraska.

Above are several posts about 2020 guard Donovan Williams from North Star HS in Lincoln, Nebraska, who we first reported that Bradley was recruiting and had offered way back in mid-2018.
He committed to Nebraska in August, 2018, and then suffered a serious knee injury in April, 2019. He remained committed to Nebraska, but did not sign his Letter of Intent last month when he had a chance during the early signing period.
Today, he announced that that he is withdrawing his commitment to Nebraska, and is reopening his recruitment. -
https://twitter.com/jeffborzello/sta...28229839097856

In this interview with the Omaha World-Herald newspaper, he said-
“Few reasons why, but it just came down to not being the right fit for me,” Williams told The World-Herald by phone. “They’ve got their mind on what they want to build this program off of to be successful, and I don’t fit it.”
https://www.omaha.com/sports/college...d156df7d0.html

It seems clear that this is related to a couple factors-
He was originally recruited and committed to previous coach Tim Miles, and was not a Fred Hoiberg recruit.
And Nebraska just landed commitments from 2 highly rated and high-scoring juco shooting guards-

2020 juco recruit Teddy Allen who committed yesterday, and is the leading junior college scorer with 32 ppg-
https://nebraska.rivals.com/news/hus...er-teddy-allen

And 2021 juco recruit Keisei Tominaga, who committed a few weeks ago and is another high-scoring shooting guard who shoots over 50% from three-
https://247sports.com/college/basket...ska-139351573/

...With these two shooting guards, and with a roster loaded with shooting guards (9 of them, 8 who will return for the 2020-21 season) Coach Fred Hoiberg likely encouraged Donovan Williams not to sign in November, and now has advised him to look elsewhere to play.

Bradley was perhaps his best offer other than Nebraska, so might Bradley get back in the picture?-
http://verbalcommits.com/players/donovan-williams-ne

Donovan Williams is reported to be recovering nicely from his knee injury and surgery, and he is projected to return to the court after January 1.
He is the type of player Bradley needs....just saying. :)

If he is good enough to be listed in the top 100 recruits, he will undoubtably receive more offers.

Donovan Williams committed to Nebraska in August, 2018. He did not appear in the Top 100 until April, 2019, 8 months later.
http://www.klin.com/2019/04/24/linc...list-of-the-top-100-2020-basketball-recruits/

Unfortunately, the same week he was listed in the ESPN Top 100 at #95, he tore his ACL. So he is coming off reconstructive ACL surgery, and hasn't played at all since last April. He has long ago dropped out of the Top 100.

I think there is a good chance the kid ends up at a mid-major, and we know Bradley recruited him before he committed to Nebraska, and was reportedly his best offer other than UNL. He would need a school willing to take a chance on a kid with his history of a serious knee injury, and Power 6 schools usually don't recruit kids with injury histories like that. Plus, a significant portion of the Power 6 schools have already signed their targeted players in the early signing period, and there are a lot fewer scholarships available.
I know this is an optimistic viewpoint, and it isn't highly likely to happen, but as I said, he is the type of player Bradley is looking for with their last scholarship, so I hope they give it a shot.
