Wisconsin fans storm the court

I know this horse is probably dead, but I'd like an opinion from you guys --

Is it ridiculous (leading the witness?) that Badger fans stormed the court yesterday? I know that OSU was the undefeated #1 team, but Wisky was FAVORED to win the game. If Wisky was terrible I might be able to see it... but they were a top-20 team going into the game.

Thoughts?

I can see both sides of this argument...
but what does a team have to do if it "DESERVES" to storm a court??
Wisconsin beat an undefeated, #1 ranked team, that held the LONGEST WINNING streak in the NATION...that all the talk was how they had a strong likelihood of going undefeated!
If there's a game to celebrate in this fashion, then I'd say this was it...

Beating the last remaining undefeated team, this far into the season, who happens to be a conference rival and the #1 team. I would have stormed the court. It was perfectly acceptable.

I think that's the ideal time to storm the court. I for one hate the stupid "over rated" chant. Why would you call a team over rated because you were able to beat them? So stupid.

Knocking off an undefeated #1 for the first time in 40 odd years on your home court...is there a better time for energetic college kids to storm the court? Last time I checked winning a national championship is done at a neutral site. '

You're making something out of nothing.

I think storming the court was appropriate because, as someone said earlier, they took down the number one team in the country, the last undefeated team, and a conference rival. It's a bunch of excited and devoted college students, and if I were there, I would have done the same.

The thing that bothers me about this are the allegations by Jared Sullinger that the Wisconsin students rushing the court spit on his face as he was exiting. If it's true, that's a pretty classless move by Wisconsin students.

Now I have no idea if these allegations are true and we'll probably never know, but to me Jared Sullinger seems like a pretty class act and very respectful. Recall this story earlier in the year about a sign a student made mocking him. He thought it was so funny that he asked the student for the sign so he could give it to his mother to hang up.

I think that short of winning a championship, this is the exact situation in which storming the court is acceptable.

Now putting players up on people shoulders was kinda funny. So was seeing those guys out at the bars in Madison last night..just a little over the top lol.

Rush the court whenever you see it fit, but Wisconsin really did something last night. Glad to see the students enjoying the nationally recognized victory! (Little reminiscent of football season eh Buckeyes?)

I couldn't care less what anyone from the "Eastern Seaboard Programming Network" has to say about storming the court! Let them storm the court anytime they want.

This guy had WAAAYYY too much time on his hands!

The point I was trying to make is that Forde would consider it acceptable because it would fall under #11 on his list.

I never would rush against a member of your own conference...unless for instance you haven't beaten them for 10 odd years and they are highly ranked at the time.

have you seen the dispute that has gone on since the end of that game??
Ohio State's Jared sullinger claims that when the Wisconsin students rushed the floor, and while he was trying to exit the floor -- that he was spit on by a student...

I personally have no reason whatsoever to conclude that Sullinger would make up such a claim -- and I believe he must have had a reason to say this...

However, the Wisconsin people have responded in a bizarre, childish, and irresponsible way -- and won't even bother to give a response other than to say there's no video of such an occurrence...

I don't know about you, but the video I saw showed 2000 people cramming onto the floor and literally overwhelming and practically crushing everyone...
to say that the video doesn't show the spitting incident is sill since even if the camera were trained right on the nicident, it still wouldn't have been seen because of the mass of people.

This may present as just another reason that rushing the floor in itself is dangerous, risky, and irresponible.
I think Wisconsin's response should be that they are sorry for whatever happened and try to find out what happened -- not just stonewall everyone - even the reporters asking and say nothing happened.
There is no possible way for them to know nothing happened...

BTW -- when a reporter asked about seeing the videotapes that Bo Ryan said show no incident...Wisconsin's response was...
"A Wisconsin spokesman did not respond to an e-mail yesterday asking whether videotape of the postgame celebration exists and, if it does, had been reviewed or would be."

Then again....this wouldn't be the first time I have witnessed a Wisconsin fan being less than classy.
Apparently even the Badger fans agree that being classless "is a tradition at Wisconsin"...

Tornado,

You make the best point here. I am 100% for having fun. It's a game. Enjoy it. Celebrate.

But when you allow thousands of emotionally charged, sometimes intoxicate, college students to rush a small space like a basketball court you are asking for trouble. Especially when the combatants for which most of their venom and anger were directed are on the same court.

Why can't they cheer, yell, scream, and have a hel**** of a time in the stands? The court is for the players and officials and coaches. The fans are for the fans. Just keep it that way.

Asking college kids who rush the court in that situation to make smart decisions and handle themselves with class is asking too much. Doesn't matter if its Wisconsin, Michigan, UCLA, SIU, etc.

I'm jealous, I want BU to beat a top 20 team so I can rush the court!
Or at least rush the PC Screen in my study while watching the game end on the Internet!
