What is wrong with Sammy?

Here is my scary thought.

Where are all our new coaches/administrators coming from..... is it fair to say the east coast/Ivy League Schools or areas with Ivy League Ideals?

What is the general description of an Ivy League School....Great Academics and Non-Competing Athletics................

I heard someone mention that this new arena is being planned as the future home of a downgraded Bradley basketball program!

Geez, man, not with this rumor again. Yes, time to downgrade the program AFTER we spend millions upgrading our basketball facilities.

Since when has Eastern Kentucky been considered an Ivy League school? :)

And when has East Coast been been associated with downgraded athletics? Boston College, University of Maryland, Duke, North Carolina...

Yes, Dr. Cross came from Princeton, but look at his background before Princeton. He's not born and bred Ivy League guy.

I'd advise to stop worrying about this. This is something that I am confident will NEVER come to pass. IF there is even a hint or sniff of this, then there would be people with pitchforks marching on their homes.

On a separate note not related to BU or what you are insinuating in your post, I find that in some respects, the Ivy League approach is refreshing. Don't get me wrong, I love a good college basketball game, but in all honesty, when I see most elite 8 and final four teams, I look at them as a minor league farm team for the professional leagues.

I would rather look like a minor league farm team than an Ivy League team.

Doesn't the poor graduation rates and the one year and done players that are currently playing at some of the major schools sicken you? I know...Things like this have gone on for years, but I love it when a team like Cornell advances in the NCAA tournament!

I like it when Cornell does well too. But we aren't an Ivy League school and never will be. Our graduation rates and academic performances are just fine, and always have been for the most part. I know what classes and what majors a lot of our basketball players take. It won't make my diploma or their diploma worth any less if our academic performance lessens a bit in the name of higher caliber athletes. It would however increase the national profile of our university, increase donations, and increase applicants. At BU I think we can be both the best on the court and in the classroom. Right now we only have it half right.

Somehow, I think La Presidenta would not agree with that statement.

I'd rather look like a farm system for corporate America then a farm system for the NBA!

Why? Our business and engineering schools have that covered. That doesn't help donations or national exposure. I'd go look up the numbers on how much donations and applications went up after the Sweet 16 versus how much they went up after we won grades in the MVC. The basketball team isn't producing CEO's or Rhodes Scholars, so stop kidding yourself.

Good point
And what is a better measurement of a great educational institution?

Naturally high achieving students achieving great results, or below average students achieving good results?

huh? I'm not sure what point you are making. I was just stating I'd rather BU be known for great academic achievements (it still has a way to go in this department IMO) then to be known as a great basketball school. In other words I'd rather be more like Harvard then Kentucky, in a heart beat. Your point is btw???
