After the game vs. the Birds last year in Carver Arena, I felt very encouraged by our 1-point loss. Our 30+ point loss in Normal last year? I felt hopeless, discouraged, about to give up watching basketball for the rest of the season (which maybe I should have :lol
There are actually games in which we lose that I feel ok about afterwards, but they certainly aren't associated with 20+ point losses, let alone 30+.
It's always good for us as fans, as well as the team, to have some success to ride on even in the losses, because this game depends so much on your mentality.
I think it goes to show this year's team is a LOT tougher mentally than last year's, as we have put aside the rough losses and played with confidence the next game.
I guess that's why I don't understand that statement, and not just from you. Obviously, they count the same. I think everyone realizes they are all losses, no matter what the margin is.

Maybe if you mean that they COUNT the same, you should clarify that when noting, "doesn't make a difference".
It DOES make a difference - just not in the standings.
I agree with you. Other opinions will differ.
If that's the case, then I'd always prefer to lose by 9 points rather than 1 point, because nothing rips your heart out like a one point loss.

I wish I could say these posts about 30 pt. loses were funny but this might be the biggest waste of reading time I've ever spent. There is a reason for these 30 pt.loses and that goes back to the people brought in by the last regime. Plain and simple. Who cares if you lose by 1 or 30 it's still a loss When Geno gets his own players in here and we still are not competing then we need to worry.

Well we all look at these things a little differently....We get all excited after a big win and we get down in the dumps after getting blown out but they are still just one loss or one win....that's why I don't too far up or down either way after a game...
Even great teams get blown out from time to time.......we have improved...especially at home.....now we have to transfer that on the road somehow...I don't know if this team has it in them or not....we'll see.
I think we will as we move forward with each class

Not in my eyes. It still counts as one win. When you look in the paper at the conference standings,it just shows their win loss record not by what they won or lost by.Such a silly argument.

Not all 30 point losses are the same. A 30 point loss by a team in the NCAA hunt means something to the resume, and as a result they may keep their starters in to keep the score respectable. A 30 point loss for this Braves team means nothing more than a 1 point loss, so Geno waving the white flag and inserting walkons and Wells in the 2nd half to let the margin balloon means nothing. Better to save the energy for the ISU Red game (which was won on the backs of near 40 minute performances by Walt and DSE) than to have them chase a better looking ticker in Wichita. Managers do the same in baseball. When games get out of hand they'll send the unreliable relievers to the mound in the 7th 8th and 9th, because the only risk is in letting a very slim chance at a win fade away. No manager worth his salt sends in a top reliever in the 9th down 6 runs, because you might need him the next two nights in one run games.

Not sure what off limits means here but all things(schedule) being equal....I don't care if we barely win all our games as long as we win more......

I'm not quite sure you can point the reasoning completely to recruits brought in by "the last regime" and completely ignore JC, SS, and KB.
I guess we'll find out next season, when the roster will be almost completely Geno's "own players".
Seriously? I actually do think we are improved this season, but the last factor I would use to make that argument is the fact we have "3 blowout wins" this year.
Those wins were all at home over Eastern Illinois, Tennessee-Martin, and Mississippi Valley State. That is a pretty good lineup of cupcakes, and I don't think those wins prove much.

I'm not exactly ignoring JC,SS and KB. You are 100 % correct in that Geno did bring those 3 in. I guess I'm letting him off the hook a little with JC and SS because he did not have alot of time from his hiring to signing day. If you think that reasoning is weak I understand and have no other arguement. KB was Willie's recruit so I'm counting this recruiting class as all Geno's baby. From here on out I hold him totally responsible for those that don't work out.
I'm quite sure I CAN reason that we are in the position we are in IS due to the people JL brought in. I won't use names because this would probably be deleted but I can think of 5 or 6 people right off the top of my head that have allowed us to wallow in the lower half of the league for the last several years. If you don't recruit over those 5 or 6 you don't improve. Guess what, that's exactly what has happened. Hopefully Geno will get that changed. Time will tell and I think improvement is not that far away.
