The Big Ten Plus Two?

Not an attack at you DUBrave5, but there is ABSOLUTELY NO FREEKIN' WAY Bradley joins the Big-Televen or Big-TeWelvie or whatever they would call themselves.

I believe it would very likely be Notre Dame if it was anyone. Of course, joining the Big Ten would ultimately be great for BU it will definitely not happen.

Haha I know that, I was just trying to think of a way to force U of I to play us. It will never happen and I wouldn't even want it to happen. I like the Valley.

I actually would like to see Notre Dame become a part of the Big Ten but I don't think it will happen.

Our football team would dominate!

Just like the 11th team in the Big Ten, Penn State, was, the 12th team will be a big-time perennial football power. Football is where the really big money is made by the BCS schools, and conferences.
The Big Ten would like Notre Dame, but ND makes too much money with it's own deals and by staying independent for football.

I think the the only Valley schools that would be of interest to the Big-10 (because of football) would be UNI or SIU....... and I doubt it would ever happen. The next team added to the B-10 would have to be a football school, IMO.

It sounds crazy, but Butler wouldn't be a terrible idea. They do not compete in FBS football, but there location and facilities are capable of being Big-10 worthy, and they are in a perfect location. They would be the 3rd furthest east school, but not by much. They are within a couple hours driving distance from OSU, U of I, Purdue and IU. That being said, a perfect fit except for football, is like everyone says here, a terrible fit as far as the AD's are concerned... And they're small, but so is ND (But football outweighs their size)

Re: Butler

Re: Butler

I thought Butler played in a little bitty gym? Notre Dame would be best, but they probably won't do it. I think Pitt would be good. Maybe Cincinnati or Syracuse. Pitt is the one that sounds like a good fit to me. They would have Penn State and Ohio State nearby as rivals.

Haha, an Itty-Bitty 16,000 seat gym... And I don't think the Big Ten will get anyone from a major conference.

Never, never, ever going to happen. Cincy, Pitt, Mizzou, Iowa St., ND, etc., but not BU. I don't really think the Big 10 covets the Peoria market and then there is that little thing about football. However, our football team has been undefeated for quite some time.

Big X could make a concession with ND and tell them they can keep their TV deal for themselves, split the pot with the teams they play like they do now and it becomes a win win for both ND and the Big X. ND could still keep their games with USC and probably with Navy and Army. ND though is also being courted by the Big East.

Big X IMO, would be better off going after Missouri.

I hadn't really ever thought about it, but after ND, Mizzoue does seem like the best fit. Already and established rivalry with U of I. A major college. And grabs the St. Louis Market (I KNOW Mizzou isn't in St. Louis). Would Mizzou leave the Big XII? Good Call SFP!

In order to join the conference you would have to go FBS in football. In order to go FBS in football you have to average 12,000 fans per game among other things. If they add a 12th member it will not be a current mid-major.

We have a better shot than these two schools and we have a snowball's chance in hell. The Big 10 is not going to bring in a directional school. One that just had to cut baseball and the other having numerous financial and academic problems. Plus does the Big 10 really need the Carbondale market?

I believe all B4L was saying is if the Big X considered a MVC school, IF, it would be only ones with a D-1 football team. So in fact those two would be considered over us in the pecking order unless they are trying to grow their basketball reach like the Big East has done. Now that would be something!
