I won't argue much with Rivals predictions of placement, though I'll take BU a little higher and Creighton a little lower.
All in all, this is just kinda' for fun to predict these.

I can see a 3rd place finish this season for BU. We just need to get out of the 4-5 rut.
Anything better and I'd be elated!
Anything worse will be disappointment...again.

Surprise team in Valley? SIU will finish #7. I think having guys with better attitude will make a difference. I know NOTHING about their JUCO players, but they have a good little PG and good BIG man - maybe Fay will have a solid year too???
Last year I took Missouri St. as the surprise team (to finish #7) and to improve a lot & they did.
I also picked UNI to finish #2, which surely didn't happen! ;-)

It looks to me like this is the best team BU has had in a couple years. If we finish 5th...thats just not good enough IMHO. I think we will do better, but its hard to fault a writer who must see all those consecutive 4-5 finishes from picking us where we have been.

I think this looks like the worst team we have had in several years, but not by much. The last time I thought we were going to have a rough year it was the year we first started playing all the guards and firing threes. That was the most fun I had watching a team for a long time. I hope it works out that way again. I think the prediction is about right.

I think Drake will be the surprise team. I think VanDeest will make a huge leap from last year and become one of the top bigs in the conference. I also would bet that Simons and Hawley make huge improvements...both players have a ton of potential. Despite Josh Young's talent, he was very much a gunner and you will see more of a team focus this year. I bet Drake ends up 4th-5th.

On the downside, I think ISU, SIU, and Evansville will be in a heated battle for 8th.

I don't see that at all.
I think this is the best team we've had since the Sweet 16 season if we stay healthy. True - we don't have a POB, but aside from that, here are the upgrades:

JP steps in for SS (I think we're better off there)
DSE & JE will improve.
Senior guards are motivated - DD is back.
TB & WE should be tougher inside.
More guard depth
New coaches

We lost only Chris Roberts and Sam Singh- how could this team be worse than last year? We get Dodie back for a full season, and don't underestimate the fact that all our best scorers and leaders are seniors this year.

That's what I'm talking about! Also TB should have a better mature attitude.

I don't pay much attention to this kind of stuff:!: Its meaningless:!: Being picked 5th isn't bad but finishing 5th will be:x Once again this year our strengh is the guards. Also once again we will have to have one or two bigs step up to prove rivals and anyone else who believes like them, wrong:!: Just got to play Bigger:)

I love your optimism about the Bulldogs, and hope you're right. With only one senior and two juniors this season, if Drake can finish in the top half of the league, they will be extremely tough in 2011-12 and 2012-13.

I do have to disagree with your statement about Josh Young being very much a gunner.....he averaged less than 10.5 shots per game last season. When I think of gunners, I think back to guys like Rick Mount who literally took 25+ shots almost every game, and sometimes 30-40. (I guess I'm showing my age there).

TB's attitude is great. Him and the others are really anxious, confident, excited, focused!

Do you see him often on campus?
I get this vibe too following his twitter page, but that can't be totally reliable.
I have a good feeling that TB will be Valley 1st team this year.

Agree DC....BU SHOULD BE better than last year. Of course, the better question is whether other MVC teams will be better, or much better, than last year relative to BU's improvement. The rest of the MVC is not standing still each year waiting for BU to get better.

This is the year many of us JL "doubters" (no one hates him - he is a very likeable guy) have been waiting for to see IF 1. JL can recruit players who can put BU at the top of the Valley and 2. JL can teach/coach players well enough to put BU at the top of the Valley...

He has an experienced senior led team with good guards and adequate post players (in deference to T) with new players posters are excited about...

While another 5-6 place MVC season and no NIT/NCAA would probably be JL's "Waterloo" at BU (how much more needs to be seen as to how far JL could take the program?), most should be willing to give JL one more year if they can finish in the top 3, reach Sunday in the Tourney, and/or, get a spot in the NIT in 2010-11....

Time to prove to all the doubters, both posters and writers/sportscasters, that JL and BU are for real and can compete at the top of the MVC and be relevant on the National scene!

I think you want your best player shooting as much as possible especially if they are anywhere near the talent of a Rick Mount or for example Hersey Hawkins (averaged over 500 shots a season in his college career, and I dont think he is considered a gunner.)

Btw Mount shot it at 51.5% as a Junior and 48.9% as a Senior. Ill take that everday and not care how many times a player shoots it.

Young though was not a gunner, 10.4 shots a game is not a whole lot of shots.

Not only is it time for the coaching staff to get BU to the top 3 of the Valley but our seniors and juniors also because they have been here for a long time to not at least challenge for a title.
