Reynolds: Coaching search...

Do we want somebody else's castoff? Someone who just failed elsewhere and was fired?
I don't have a favorite, but I don't think the powers in charge would hire a failed coach from another school.

Yeah, but I personally don't think Hewitt failed. After all, he did make five NCAA Tournaments during his tenure at Georgia Tech. ;)

If logically, one of the reasons for a change was lack of conference success, Hewitt doesnt fit the bill.

Im not saying there couldnt be a "castoff" that might be the exception to the rule, but it I believe you have to be effective in your league

only 50 D-I schools draw better than Bradley...
Bradley has intense, loyal fans...and everyone knows BU's fans follow their team even on the road moreso than MOST teams
BU is nearing completion of a campaign that will raise over $100 million for the upgrade of facilities..only about 40-50 schools in the country could compete with that
and BU's fans are the best...we all know that and no argument is even needed....so unless a coach has a top BCS offer, yes, he'd want to come to Bradley...why not......?
ps-- barely a dozen non-BCS schools pay as well as BU for their head coach...and past BU coaches and assistants have gone on to numerous other head coaching positions, even the NBA

Thanks for the hint of optimism and the ray of sunshine that BU will survive post JL:!: :D

I am betting it will take the same, or less, time with a new coach than Les took to get it going post Mo... MVC isn't as strong as it was post Mo....

I am kind of intrigued by Graves. Granted, I don't know a lot about him, but Butler has had quite a bit of success over the years, so somebody over there is doing something right.

At the least, he would be worth an interview.

Yeah, but regardless of the salary increase, can a coach really keep an assistant from taking any job? In other words, doesn't their contract have to spell this out?

I've seen this happen in my company, so I wouldn't be surprised for it to happen in the coaching ranks. You don't want to bite the hand that feeds you, so at best, you'd prefer to leave on good terms and with the current boss's blessing (unless you've got a sure fire new gig and won't need the previous boss's support ever).

Awesome thank you.

And even better, I got the phone number of academy of okinawan.

Hey-------Yaaaaaa

Taylor just joked about the new coaching staff for next year on twitter. This is what TB came up with.

"2011-2012 #bradleybasketball coaching staff update::.. Head coach Kevin Eastman ..asst. Rick brown and Carl Maniscalco .Wills mom & stix dad"

Ivy League

Ivy League

I may be wrong but what does everyone feel about the Princeton or Harvard coaches? I'm guessing it will be one of them.

Honestly, at first I was going to shoot this down for my opinion, but upon second thought I don't think it's too far from realistic. Both are very JG-esque resumes (mainly just east coast ties), JG has some ties to Harvard, Cross ties to Princeton and both tied for 1st in the Ivy League. I wouldn't be surprised, though I think I'd be a little underwhelmed.

Good thought carter.

This is part of my thought process on Johnson as well. It couldn't completely be called a "homer" choice as he has clearly had success. I would have put Amaker in the mix as well, but he has stated he doesn't do interviews and probably wouldn't be a very good "face" on the program. I would be incredibly disappointed if Amaker was the choice, but only for this reason.

I would be concerned about their recruiting ability in the Midwest..... but I guess they could solve that with a good assistant from this region. Amaker strikes me as someone who would "use" us as a stepping stone to leave ASAP. Johnson is young, well-spoken, and just strikes me as someone who would be more loyal to a program long term (which could also mean he is less likely to leave Princeton).

If we are looking for "eastern exposure", then Amaker is the only choice of the names that I have seen so far. Pass on Johnson and I agree that I would be very underwhelmed if we went the "eastern exposure" route.

I would really like to see Lusk from Purdue, but have a feeling Johnson from Princeton will be the man.

Lusk is the coach that I want! We need a statement hire that will send a message throughout the MVC and beyond! The Lusk hire will do that!

Im not opposed to lusk either...

but why is he a "statement" hire

any more than Johnson, Muller, or Amaker. I think they are all statement hires actually.

I totally agree, I pass on Amaker and Johnson plus any of those other candidates not from the mid-west, Lusk has been my number 1 choice from the start.

IMO, Lusk is a statement hire for BU because of his recruiting contacts and presence in the midwest and the fact that he has been noted as one of the top Assistant Coaches in the Country. I think that Lusk is ready to be a head coach and do well at this level. There is one signed recruit whom I would love to see at BU, and if we get Lusk for a coach, I think that we have a chance at keeping that recruit here. IMO, if I were an AD and had to put my reputation on this hire, I would only consider one of the three names that you mentioned for my short list for an interview and that person would be Amaker. I would also give strong consideration to Gard and Terry.

I also agree I see little to impress me...i have nothing whatsoever against Dane Fife other than what I can plainly see in his track record...
I know he started at a really low level at IPFW -- but......

Seriously --- this is what his bio starts with...
"Dane Fife has led IPFW to double-digit wins in each of his first five seasons."
http://www.gomastodons.com/coaches.aspx?rc=98

Ahem...say what?? This is a bragging point ?? -- that his teams have actually won more than NINE games in each of his seasons??

Here are his win totals...10, 12, 13, 13, 16, 18, and only ONE winning season at 16-15 before this year.
PLUS -- look at the track record of his teams, they score frequently in the 40's -- often in the 50's!!!
In his 6 years at IPFW, he has a dozen games of 40's or less on his team's offense, and more than 40 games in the 50's!!!!!
They launch oodles of 3-pointers -- almost 200 more 3-pt attempts than their opponents, and so if they aren't falling they get hammered -- often losing games by 20 pts or more to the South Dakota State's, North Dakota State's, and IUPUI's...

Heck -- Illinois State, in a season that helped get Porter Moser fired with only NINE wins, even held them to just 36 points a few years ago...

Also Dane Fife would have no loyalty whatsoever to Central IL or Bradley --
I don't deny he might still succeed and do well, but the instant he was good enough to get a call to go elsewhere - he'd be gone...
