Reynolds article

I have read from the PJ Star apologists for years that the PJ Star works at a much higher set of standards than message boards, and call-in sports talk radio shows. But now you are saying that they don't? They do not need to check sources, or report the facts? They are nothing different than a message board poster or caller to a radio show?

I don't know their standards at all. Seems to me you don't like the paper. That's fine. Just seems the paper or DR thinks the topic is important.

Hard to imagine DR is part of the conspiracy group too.

Agreed. It's not the exact same situation. Life rarely is. Obviously they feel something different is on the horizon.

"Obviously" what?? There is NOTHING obvious at all....
...except that the people writing for the local paper DO NOT KNOW what is going to happen despite their little hints that they do know...
I was told personally by someone in the inner circle up at BU that all this talk and speculation is hurtful and insulting -- and that MANY of the facts are not only downright false but that nobody's even asked any questions for which they'd be coming up with their speculation...

SERIOUSLY -- just a couple days in front of the Conference Tournament as Coach Les is focusing on getting his team ready to play...
does anyone beyond the imbecile-level actually think he's going to go in front of reporters or cameras and start talking about his contract and future plans??

If a reporter even thought that Coach Les would answer any such questions, then it is an absolute insult to Coach Les' intelligence that his valuable time was wasted by someone even asking these kinds of questions.

Hey - while the PJS or Pantagraph are at it - -maybe they can ask "are you still beating your wife?"

This baffled me too -
Not to take anything away from Young, but Warren deserves it as a senior who had a stellar season and was just better than Young.
Josh Young got 1st team last year for a Drake team that finished 8th or 9th I think. And Warren's season was far better than JY's IMO.

Dave Reynolds cannot vote for his own players so that's why Warren was not mentioned on his ballot

This baffled me too - everywhere else I'm hearing that Warren is 1 of 3 that is a lock for Valley 1st team. Nobody on mvcfans site disputes that.
AW had an incredible season and the rest of the league was keying in on stopping him & harrassing him every night. Yet AW found ways to do a little of everything on the court, having a team-first mentality EVERY time BU stepped on the court...as a last-place team.

I assumed those were HIS votes for MVC first team. Hometown voters aren't able to vote for their hometown players. Correct?

The PJS has become a bit of a circus. What is going on there? As others said, what gives with the timing of this article? If MC is sharing inside scoop with KW as some suggest, then I would have to question MC's fit for the AD job.

As others said, what gives with the timing of this article?

The timing of the article is perfect. The paper is not responsible for getting the team ready for the Valley tournament. The timing has to do with a couple of things...

1. Again, the entire Peoria area is talking about JL and whether he will be back.

2. It's the end of the season. Yes, the tourney has yet to be played, but with the last home game finished, and with DR having an opportunity to question him Jim it makes sense.

Again, Jim handled the questions well. His focus should and is on the tournament.

Dave also handled it well. He knows its a hot-button issue in the community and attempted to address it as well.

Talented core vs dwindling attendance. Sounds eerily similar to Coach Mo's last year. It is unfortunate that it has come to that again.
I thought the attendance at the end of the season was pretty good for a guaranteed last place team! In fact, it was about 3,000 more than isu had for their Senior night game as well as being the annual BU game.

As someone who was a journalist for a long time, I admire the work of Dave Reynolds. Think he does an outstanding job and is objective. A consummate professional in my view. I think that BU fans are fortunate that someone as conscientious as Dave is on the beat, covering BU.

I also have no problem with the timing (as so many others seem to have). As I said before, my problem was with the lack of content. How hard would it to have been to have asked the right questions of the right people. IMO, Reynolds took the easy and lazy approach with this article. As a result, he really gave the reader nothing of any substance.

I guess we disagree on this because of your second point JD...the season isn't over....what if we win the tournament?....in my opinion DR looks pretty bad then.....there is absolutely no rush in doing this article. Sure people are asking questions but I don't think anybody expects an answer until the season is officially over...

I'm trying to see what purpose the article served....and I don't see it. And I'm one that typically sticks up for the paper too.

I DO agree that JL handled it well......actually I wouldn't have blamed him for going off on DR...with a tournament still to play

Lefty....I said it was the end of the season. Meaning we are coming to the end. Obviously I know the season is not over yet.

I don't think DR looks bad if Jim wins the tourney. It means he asked a relevant question when the time called for it.

Should a reporter only talk about a President when they leave office? Can't you question him anytime?

what if we win the tournament?....

To me that is irrelevant. If the powers that be have made a decision then they should stick with it. And, if they've asked the PJS not to report anything then the PJS should not print articles like Reynold's. IMO, that article is garbage since it contains NOTHING. Reynolds could have just added that BU officials had "no comment". Then, his story is complete. Wessler had the right to print what he did because it was an editorial. That's a completely different standard of journalism.

when you think about it though...what is JL going to say? "Yeah Dave your right...when we lose this week i'm getting canned"....

I mean JL has been tight lipped about most everything about the program...why would he talk about his job status before the season is officially over? There wasn't anything really said that couldn't have waited a week. We have a tournament to prepare for.

I guess I just think that these are questions for a coach when the season is officilaly over

Some context for those who think it might be early/premature, consider this occurred on the same day Georgia State fired their coach, and will enter the CAA Tournament with an interim coach.

well if that decision has been made then I agree with you....and you have a pre-curser to what happens next week.....but if BU would happen to win the tourney....it would make things interesting for sure....and I don't think we will but there is always a chance

Certainly you can ask questions...but the issue here is that DR's article only provided a partial snapshot of the situation instead of trying for the entire picture.

and I agree that the timing is a little off for this article as well....
