No PG + No Inside Game + Poor Coaching = Bad Results

The question is where is the real problem?

We should never lose to Loyola...that is an embarrassment to Bradley University and our fan base.

.500 overall and .500 in the conference just doesn't cut it anymore!

This program should never lose at home, period.

Everyone here looked at this awful home non-con schedule and said "We should be undefeated at home going into conference." If you didn't, youre lying.

Any good done by the Illinois win has been undone 5 times over now.

I think Merf was a bit more important than many here thought.

I agree about both statements...not sure about the Merf one.

Sadly the previous coach couldn't win on the road, BUT he rarely ever lost at home.

When are we going to get coaches and players in here that understand its a privelege to play in front of 9k every night and that they should be leaving it all out on the floor and that losing at home is not an option and should never be tolerated!

Does this forum have a way to ignore posts from certain posters?

These fantasies of "going big" have got to end.

You know, I have mixed feelings about going Big with this team. I know our bigs aren't gonna be monsters down there, but I feel like we could mix in WE and AT at the same time a bit more, actually I don't think we have ever tried it(may be mistaken on that, but can't recall it ever happening)

Anyway, for example, last night we begin the game with 3 WE jumpers early on in the game, all 15 foot or better. And it appeared to me, by the way he just caught it and shot it on all 3 of em, that he has been encouraged to shoot that shot (my opinion). Now I ask, if you already have 4 players in the game (3 guards, and 1 undersized 4)who are better at doing that than Will, why is that the shot we are lookin for? To me if you are gonna use Will that way, what's the harm in having Thompson in there planted in the post? Why not run a little hi-low, I mean Egolf is a prototypical hi man in that type of sense. If you are gonna have him shooting that shot with no rebounders down there, why not stick AT down there and still have him shoot it? And Im not talking about doing this for huge amounts of minutes, just mix it in a little bit, see if maybe it can't free Will up a little more for that foul line jumper, if they have to at least pay some mind to another possible post threat in AT. I just can't beleive we dont try it at all, I mean we don't even explore the possibility. Also, at 6'8", Milos could also be the Hi man with either AT or WE on the block, but we just don't seem to try this ever. I don't think WE is ever gonna be an offensive down on the block back to the bucket powerhouse, but that doesn't mean he can't be an effective big, just look at someone like Jack Ingram of Illinois a few years back.

I also feel the biggest reason BU cannot, will not go big is our "System" on offense will not allow it. We absolutely cannot have 2 of Will, AT, or SS in at the same time and run the type of motion offense we run. Now, this is up to the coaches to decide if they want to try and implement a new offensive scheme mid season, but we just can't throw the bigs into the current scheme and expect it to work. Too many moving parts and ballhandling opportunities to have 2 of those 3 in there at a time.

When BU went to this offensive scheme after the Sweet Sixteen season it was to utilize the strength of the team which was the guards, and it worked well, but you had guys like Ruff, Will Franklin, JC, A Warren (as a role Player) All of these guys could handle the ball, were better than average shooters, had a high basketball IQ, and above all they really were good passers who moved the ball crisply around that offense. This year, the strength of the team(in my opinion) is still the guards, but they are a different type of guard than the ones mentioned above. (especially with Dodie Out) I think that CR and AW and TB would all benefit more in a quick hitter type of offense, rather than the motion that we currently run. Get AW running off staggered screens, and CR and TB coming of curl screens at the foul line more where they can get to the bucket and use their athleticism/draw fouls. It just seems like we are not executing the motion offense well at all, and our best players (AW, TB, and CR) get lost in it.

IDK, just my rant and opinion after a couple of tough losses.

Do you by chance have the ability to look at home records?

Here is what was posted elsewhere by someone else....

Through his first seven full seasons and the first five games of his eighth, Mo was 78-23 at home (.772). Les is 87-30 (.744). Mo wrapped up his career, 11 seasons, with a 117-36 home record (.765), and it's worth noting that seven of his losses came in his final season, which is significant in that Les has lost more home games one-third of the way through his eighth season than Mo lost in 10 full. Two road games into their eighth seasons: Mo was 33-57 (.367), and Les is 30-66 (.313). Mo took a real dive on that front his last four seasons and finished with a percentage virtually identical to what Les has now. The record was 43-93 (.316). Les has been much better on neutral courts (14-13 to Mo's 14-23). (NOTE: All records were added from composite season-by-season records in the Bradley media guide to date.)

There we go, much better.

I suggest AEBF you also then block all the fantsy posts about how good the Braves are, how much potential the Braves have, how good SM and EM are, particularly playing together, how JL justs needs more time, how JL's four guard offense would have beaten a Loyola team who KILLED BU inside last night, and for good measure, any posts who think de-redshirting JE will help BU this year more than robbing BU of a potential good 5th year in the future!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I agree with you Da Coach last nite when Milos was shooting good and kept telling the guy next to me to take him out because he did not defend anyone and did not rebound at all. But I guess not many people watch both ends of the floor.

Agreed and that's why I had no issue with him being pulled. However, like others have said, we still need offense, so perhaps we protect him some on D with a zone. Now if he??™s going to hit 3s all night, then I guess, I??™ll take 3 for 2 any day.

We built a bigger lead when Milos was in so you really donT know what you are talking about.

Amen!

Milos had a couple boards in that sequence as well...and I would sacrifice a little "D" to score some points....that is what role players do....

I am playing the hot hand till he either cools off or needs a rest....neither happened...if you need Brown in....

SM
AW or CR
TB
MK
WE

would have been fine at the time

The kid was hot! let him play...

No one played defense last nite, so why not leave Milo in? At least he can score!

I nominate this for post of the day. This section pretty well hit on everything I have been thinking for the last 2-3 years.

I also agree that this team would be better with an offense that utilizes curls to the free throw line and to the lane for Chris, Andrew, Taylor, and Will....

To your last point, our best strengths do not get utilized at all in this offense as its more for high percentage 3-pt shooters and not for mid range game.

Also, does anyone notice how very little screening is done in this offense?

We have our Center 30' from the basket and he is typically the only screener on the floor.

If you have a few minutes to your day, watch a Butler game and you'll notice how much different the style of play is with players similiar to those on Bradley (minus Hayward - we don't have anyone comparable to him). At times, they will set 8-10 screens just in one possession with all of the stagger screens, double screens, and backdoor pick screens.

Just a much more well designed offense that is implemented for the players they have.

My main point is, you must adapt to who you have on your roster and what their strengths are as individuals AND as a unit.

You can not make them adapt to a system that they just can not run, AND that is a lot of why we are where we are at this point.

Scrap the motion, go with a flex set or a 1-4 stack set...they will work much better with this current group of talent.

I really get a kick out of your posts StLouisBrave because it's almost like you refuse to say "Les" or "Molinari"; like they're swear words. You say "he" and "the previous coach" instead. Funny stuff. Was that the intent?:)

Well, the previous coach, yes, that is a swear word....

The current I have had many interactions with and he is a really great guy, but the word "salesman" does come to mind as right now, he's not exactly doing what I had hoped he would and he isn't the coach I thought he might be.

But the reason I did it is that I was told awhile back that more posts are kept on here if you don't use names flat out and just assume people know who you're talking about.

And I should say thank you and that I am happy you like them, but you probably find them much funnier right now than I do.

I would much rather be writing about wiping the floor with the opponent or how great of a job we have done, but IMHO, we still have yet to play a full 40, even against Illinois.

Ok, so apparently I'm not allowed to say _____ didn't play well, but you know who I am talking about.

The key for Sam is that he does have a body and at times does know how to use it. While he was in, their big boy was kept out of the 3' area.

Who said that? I just don't understand the constant talk of a sophomore that isn't "producing", while at the same time calling for us to play someone simply because they're "BIG". You'd think someone that's been around almost as long as the coach would be producing more than someone who's seen as a detriment to the team and, according to some around here, deserves to be sitting on the bench

Enough said really....

I just hope the new AD notices and we don't have to go through another 3 years of this garbage!

Has anyone noticed that we've had double digit leads in EVERY home game, yet have blown every single one of them based on poor coaching and substitution patterns...

And now that we don't have any semblance of a PG and really no inside game whatsoever because of lack of touches, toughness, and the fact that we play small every chance we can get...

This team has ZERO chance to do anything this year unless wholesale changes are made...

Unfortunately, I don't see a way to fix the PG situation...

BUT we could fix many things by not continuing this ridiculous notion of playing so many guards at once...

Heck, I'd almost be willing to have Chris Roberts bring the ball up simply to show the other two players that if they want to play, then they better get it together.

My lineup for Sunday and this by lack of players and default really:

-Singh
-Brown
-Knezevic
-Warren
-Roberts

Oh, and can I ask what the purpose of removing a redshirt from a player is if you don't plan on playing him?

I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think Jake comes in and kicks the ball around like our two supposed leaders.

The real problem lies at the top though as he has guaranteed spots in the starting lineup (we know who they are) and has favorites, and more importantly, is way too stubborn to change his extremely flawed and failed system.

Western Carolina was just the beginning and losing to Loyola should never happen, let alone on your home floor after being up 12.

Its going to be a long season and a very long next 3 years if he doesn't look in the mirror and realize that the changes begin and end with him.

To answer your question on way redshirt someone and then not play them. If you noticed in the warm ups J.E. didn't participate because he sprained his ankle tuesday in practice.
