Loyola is 6-2 and RPI 40!

And I'm afraid Loyola will also be heading in that direction, starting with their 17 point drubbing at home and 42 point performance to hapless Detroit

Loyola will win 20 games this year, which I think is amazing considering what Whitesell has to work with facilities-wise. Being a Chicago guy I wonder if this is his final stop, or if he has aspirations beyond Loyola. I just can't see anyone being able contend for a league title with what they have to work with there. DePaul seems to like local guys, maybe they'll give him a look after this season. It would be a major upgrade from the Jerry Wainwright circus, that's for sure.

nothing like a good belly laugh, BB...
are you really hinting you think DePaul will hire Whitesell, a marginally successful mid-major coach, to replace Wainwright, an ex-marginally successful mid-major coach?

DePaul's last 2 hires suggest that yes, that's the route they'll go. Whitesell's resume is arguably just as good if not better than their previous 2 hires. What leads you to believe they'd go a different route?

Just for some fun ...

Dave Leitoa was 22-35 as a Division I head coach at Northeastern. Jerry Wainwright was 49-42 at Richmond. What about those two resumes suggest they're any different than Whitesell's?

And all I did was suggest that perhaps they may give Whitesell, a local guy who's been successful at every level he's coached, a look. Calling my thoughts silly is not even in the same realm as suggesting that Jim Les is even a comparable, let alone better coach than Dana Altman, as you have hinted at time and again over the years.

The big difference is that Whitesell's resume was built below D-I ... but his 202-134 record at Lewis with five NCAAs including a Sweet 16 run is pretty solid.

Bo Ryan and Bruce Pearl's resumes were built at lower levels as well, so it isn't unprecedented. Last time I checked those guys have done pretty well.

Sure ... lets throw Dana in here too.

Dana Altman (in 16th season at Creighton)
312-165 (.654)
168-99 (.631) in Valley
Twelve consecutive NCAA or NIT appearances. Hasn't figured out how to get past the second round of any tournament.
Three Valley titles, fourth or better 12 times.
Overall, in 21 seasons
394-232 (.629) and you add an NCAA and two NITs

I'm just going to say one thing. Loyola is still the only D1 men's basketball team from the State of Illinois to ever win a NCAA Championship game and I'm proud of it.

Bump. I want to say this again about Loyola. There's no jealousy from me. Go Ramblers! Go Braves tonight!

Loyola will win 20 games this year
That is not likely. Their most "likely" total is 18 wins, per Pomeroy. You could calculate it, but, I would imagine the likelihood of Loyola surpassing 19 would be less than 30%.

Loyola's W/L record so far this season has been propped up by a NCAA high "Luck" rate (Pomeroy), which is easily seen by looking at the large variance in their Sagarin ELO Chess rank of 68 (backwards-looking) and their PREDICTOR rank of 180 (forward-looking)

What does this tell you?

It tells you that reality is about to hit the Ramblers with a Tex Cobb haymaker.

What leads you to believe they'd go a different route?

well.....maybe the fact that the fan base is furious and want change and they simply don't want another marginally successful ex-mid-major coach..
and the fact that the DePaul people may just have the potential to learn from bad mistakes if they make those same mistakes enough times.

I think Depaul is going to look long and hard at Detroit's Ray McCallum. He has a pretty long and good track record of success, recruits the "inner city" well, and comes with a ready-made All-Conference point guard - his son.

When did Pomeroy become gospel? They'll need a couple more road wins and hold server at home, but they've won at Butler and at BU in the last year so I don't think that's a reach. If they do hold to Pomeroy's form or fall below, well, it will just further expose how bad of a loss it was for BU.
