HUGE Shakeup at Missouri

Something big is going down.
Apparently right after the Athletic Director, Mike Alden dismissed several members of their coach-selection committee, then went right ahead and negotiated a deal to bring Mike Anderson in as new head coach from UAB (University of Alabama Birmingham), then the proverbial sh*t hit the fan.

Apparently several of the members of the Board of Curators at University of Missouri called a special, unprecedented EMERGENCY MEETING FOR 12:30pm Sunday.

Rumors are rampant that Athletic Director Mike Alden will be dismissed.

Stay tuned, the soap opera called "Mizzou" never fails to intrigue.

Rumors have the terms of the contract said to be $1.3 million per year for six years. The amounts negotiated and the manner in which the negotiations took place appear to be issues that have the Univeristy's Curators disturbed, but many of the Curators were already very upset over the manner in which the Quin Snyder firing was handled.

University Chancellor Brady Deaton, who sits on the Board of Curators, appears to be backing Mike Alden and the coach selection (of Anderson), but reportedly eight of the nine members of the Board of Curators do not back Alden, and favor dismissing Alden for pushing through such a huge and costly contract without the approval of the Board as well as the other issues with Quin's firing.

Say what?
The AD negotiated a contract of $1.3 million per year for 6 years?
There wouldn't be any negotiating would there?
If they even offered this anyone would accept it. This has to be one of the if not THE most lucrative and long term contract in college basketball history!
What if Mizzou were forced to buy this baby out?
Iowa State reportedly just got McDermott for $650,000 per.

:-o :-o :-o Mike Anderson hasn't yet coached at the top level,
and remember when Minnesota hired Dan Monson from Gonzaga
with big hopes he would continue the same success after moving to the top D-I level.
6-year/$1.3 mil terms are generally seen only in re-signing highly successful top coaches.
If Alden gave this kind of dough away without getting the OK of the higher-ups, then he is probably in big doo-doo.

A little like the controversy when BU hired its coach in 2002 only on a huge, Grand Canyon scale!!
Watch for the race card to be played soon!

Now, there are more changes.

Early this morning, there was an announcement of a press conference for today at 3PM, supposedly to make the announcement of Mike Anderson being hired as new head coach.

Then the press conference was pushed back..

But just moments ago, a message was released that there will be no press conference.
Are you all enjoying this circus as much as I am??
