Future BU opponents' non-conference schedules

ISU could win the National Championship while BU wins "The Toilet Bowl" and I'd still take BU! Down with ISU....... ALWAYS!

We were IN the toilet bowl twice (formerly know around here as the EIEIO tournament) and couldn't even win that coming in second both years.

The actual topic was our opponents non-con skeds....as far as caring about other schools, when its basketball related I care....when its parking and seatbelt tickets I don't. :)

I was responding to TAS's comment on the isu schedule. I'm not the one that went away from the actual topic.

At least now I know it's ok to care about isu's non-conference schedule.

What did isu do those years? When was the last time they even went to the NCAA tournament, not to mention won a couple games once they got there? Oh wait.....I can just hear some people now saying they don't care about what other teams do in the postseason.

I don't think you could be more spot-on here...

You seem to be about the only BU fan who is embarrassed by Bradley playing in the CBI and CIT in 2008 and 2009. Too bad. From the crowds at the game, most fans were very supportive and happy to get to see more games against quality opponents.
Incidentally, BU was invited to play in those tournaments again last year, but declined- I'm sure you're happy.
Note that Creighton and their fans were excited to play in the CIT last year- They were able to beat South Dakota, and Faifield, but did not even make it to the Final like Bradley did both years they played in those tournaments.
Missouri State was excited to play in the CIT last year, too.

And, Indiana State was happy to play in the CBI, even though they lost their first round game. I don't see any of their fans ashamed of their team's participation.
Of course Bradley fans would like to see them in the NCAA, but I don't think the m,ajority of fans share your contempt for these postseason tournaments.

I'm not proud to be in those tourneys I was not excited to play any of the teams we played....

I traveled to Tulsa....but that still doesn't mean I was sastisfied....

those tourneys are a joke. period.

I love BU and support whatever decisions they make....if they choose to play in those tourneys, I go, cheer and put on the happy face. Do I like the fact we play in those tourney...NO. Sorry I want more for my team.

And IF you think I'm the only one that isn't happy about 3 years of EIEIO then why didn't we sellout the FIRST two years and seems to me JL and CO. weren't to thrilled as they declined year 3.

I strive for (as much as a fan can) for NCAA....PERIOD. I'm not happy...I bet JL isn't happy and I bet the TEAM isn't happy about anything less....do they go....2 of 3 years yes...do they compete....yes.....do they want more (NCAA) BIG yes.

Sorry anyone "excited" about not making the NCAA would surprise me. I can assure you CU and the majority of the fanbase was NOT excited about EIEIO. Do the coaches say the correct things as to not tick of the sponsors, tourney directors...yes.

A 1 year run at the EIEIO is ok IF its followed by gradual progression upwards....like the NIT and then the NCAA....but sorry three years in a row......NO I'm NOT happy I know ALOT of fans that aren't either.

Your a liar....I am the ONLY fan not happy.

For the record I was there also...good golf in Tulsa. :)

Those tourneys are not a joke for teams that have good young talent and are trying to get their players more games at the end of the season so they will be better for next year, Oakland and Old Dominion would disagree with your assessment as they both advanced to the NCAA tour. the following year after playing BU in one of the so called joke tour.

I didn't have any problems with BU playing in CBI and CIT games, they were kind of like pre season non con games played in the post season.

More opportunities to watch/cheer BU and to see other teams BU normally doesn't get a chance to play. In some cases, the teams BU played in the CBI/CIT tourneys were better than some of BU's non con schedules those years.

As long as BU made money, or helped with recruiting with their participation in these games, great.

What bothers me are the fans making BU's participating in these two tourneys, and winning a game or two, some kind of notable accomplishment, or validation of the progress/turnaround with the BU MBB program and it's coaching staff.

Still waiting for that to happen!

These tour. are suppose to be stepping stones on moving ahead to the next bigger tour; unfortunately without a true center BU was not able to go forward like ODU and Oakland which had good true post players, that is the only thing holding us back.

And for the record, Bradley did set attendance records for the CBI and CIT tournament games that still stand. So it does seem most Bradley fans were excited to see them participate.
Bradley's decision not to participate last year was due to a couple reasons that were never made public, and not because they were embarrassed to be in those tournament, like a few fans.

The latest on isu's scheduling strategy.....

http://www.pantagraph.com/app/blogs/main/?p=5172

“We’re going to wait as long as we feel like we can. At some point you’ve got to close it down, but we’re trying to hold out and see if we can’t get a home and home with a BCS school,” he said. “There’s a big risk in that because we may not, and then you’ve got to get somebody. But right now that’s our plan.”

ISU appears ready to host another Thanksgiving break exempt tournament, but this could be the last year for that.

“Next year (the 2011-12 season) we’ll do everything we can to get into an exempt tournament that give us that chance to play some BCS schools, but it doesn’t help us get them here (to Redbird Arena),” said Jankovich.

“My wish list would be to play home-and-home series with BCS schools. That’s not going to happen. We’ll be lucky to get one. We’ll see if anyone is desperate enough to sign up for it.”

Hasn't Jank used the "next year" line every year since he showed up?

The word "embarassed" was never used by me.....so thats someone else's interpretation to add some hyperbole to what I am saying.

The EIEIO tournies tell us ONE thing....we were not good enough to get into the NCAA's...PERIOD. Not good enough three years in a row.

THAT is a letdown in my book.

BU gets 8,9 and sometimes 10k to games allthough this year there was a significant decline in attendance. (anyone that trys to argue that is blowing smoke)

The EIEIO's had horrible attendance relatively speaking......setting attendance records in a tourney thats only three years old means nothing IMO and is like putting lipstick on a pig.

Yeah, its always great to see BU play. The first eieio people "accepted" it and pretty much said if its the start of an upward run...ok....we'll take the xtra games.

Year two the grumblings started...anyone that didn't here them had their heads buried in the sand.

Year three and it was loud enough that BU even heard them of that I'm convinced. Almost every fan I spoke with said if BU plays I don't think I will go. They felt it was like rewarding mediocrity......

So i ask, If these tournies are so great then why didn't we play......its painfully obvious for anyone that wants to admit it. It shows a failure on our part to improve and the staff and admin felt the same way the majority of fans did....its rewarding mediocrity.

I applaud JL for sending the message to his players.

I "demand" more from BU...I expect more from BU....I think JL...no I KNOW JL does also and I don't doubt Mr. Cross and Madam President do also.

Simple question...would EIEIO part IIII make anyone happy...excited......thrilled....?

Letdown, yes.....not sure who said they weren't letdown by not making the NCAA as that should be the goal of every single Division I school in the country. It's too bad only a select few make it every year and apparently the entire conference is only good enough to get one school in lately.

Well, they certainly had more than the capacity of the new Bradley Arena. Someone should let the administration know how many tickets were sold and we should not have all (or any) postseason games somewhere that only holds 4,200 people.

Year three and it was loud enough that BU even heard them of that I'm convinced. Almost every fan I spoke with said if BU plays I don't think I will go. They felt it was like rewarding mediocrity......

Hmmmm.....that's too bad people feel that way. I personally look forward to any game I'm able to attend, especially games that occur in late March/early April.

Always happy to go to a Bradley game.
