Conference Tourneys upset thread

The OVC, Big South and Horizon leagues get underway tonight. So far only one upset in the making.

17-12 Austin Peay is down by 6 with 5 minutes left against 12-17 Eastern Illinois at Austin Peay.

And Austin Peay escapes with a 3 point win. AP got fouled on a rebound scrum with 13 seconds left and made 2 FT's but Eastern couldn't make a last ditch 3 point attempt. Some good early march madness.

Got a couple upsets so far tonight in the Patriot league 1st round.

10-19 Colgate over 19-11 Navy in overtime.

11-18 Army over 15-14 Lehigh by 3 points.

Another couple upsets for tonight, which one of them most of us already know about.

-Coming out of the MVC...

11-20 Indiana State over 17-15 Drake

-Out of the Northeast

15-16 Quinnipiac over 16-14 Long Island in overtime

I have a hunch the Atlantic Sun might lose their top seed today. #1 seed Jacksonville plays ON THE ROAD at #4 seed Lipscomb (who recently beat the Dolphins on Feb 26th, 92-82).

How is that possible? How do they "reward" a #1 seed by having them play on the road, or is that their "neutral" site for the whole tournament?

Looks like they have been rotating their conference tourney site.

Here's the last 10 years:

08 Lipscomb
07 E Tenn St
06 E Tenn St
05 Belmont
04 Belmont
03 Georgia St

Some more upsets yesterday...

-In the America East (What a crazy tournament LOL)
15-15 Albany over 23-8 Vermont in OT to go to the semifinals
14-16 UMBC over 17-13 Boston U in OT to go to the semifinals
14-15 New Hampshire over 16-14 Stony Brook to go to the semifinals

-In the Big Sky
13-17 Montana St over 17-12 Montana to go to the semifinals (bet they are rivals)

-In the Colonial
12-21 Towson over 18-12 Northeastern to go to the semifinals

-In the Southern
16-15 Samford over 20-12 Citadel to go to the semifinals

-In the Summit
13-19 S. Dakota St over 16-15 Oral Roberts to go to the semifinals

Upset in RPI only, but 24-9 VCU over 22-10 George Mason. GM had the slightly better RPI, but VCU had the better overall record, first place finish and 2-1 record over the RPI top 50 with two wins over GM. Due to George Mason's loss to Creighton in the Bracketbuster and two losses to VCU, there is no chance of them making the NCAA tournament, so Creighton is still okay for now.

However, that Siena/Niagara game is tight in the 2nd half and HAS to go the way of Siena! Gonzaga is pouring it on St. Mary's at the moment, but SM may or may not get in anyway. But the way Gonzaga is beating them, that could be the deciding factor.

VCU is going to be a tough 1st round team to beat. Reminds me a lot of BU's Sweet 16 team. Drive and dish out for the 3 time and time again. Really get that offense spread out, tough to play D against them.

Huge upset today as previously winless DePaul takes out Cincinnati 67-57! Although they still look safe for the NIT, this loss may just send Cincy right down to the CBI again!
