Coaching Carousel

that is roughly what Casey Alexander was making at Belmont - and Jacobson was making $900K at UNI-
ya wonder if UNI would have paid Jacobson the same to stay, or was he leaving anyway just to shed the directional school image.

Kyle Green announced as new head coach at Northern Iowa

He was an assistant at Iowa State and formerly was assistant at UNI.
He is the father of AJ Green, who played at UNI and is now in the NBA with the Bucks.
He also just missed coaching Brian Wardle, as he was hired as an assistant at Marquette in 2003, shortly after Wardle graduated,
but Wardle was also on that 2003-2004 staff under Tom Crean as Director of Basketball Operations.

That's the way it's done. They didn't waste any time like we've seen with some past coaching hires with search committees, advertising the open position for weeks, screening hundreds of applicants, paring the field down, more interviews, then taking a committee vote.

When his son just signed a new NBA contract for $40M this hire is a no-brainer. #NIL

The head coach at Campbell (John Andrzejek) is stepping down and will take an assistant coaching spot at Louisville,
BUT... on his way out the door, he posts a scathing statement citing the lack of support, finances & commitmentment
from the administration.
He was only there 1 year (16-18), but they've only won more once since 2018-19.

From talking with some UNI fans, he had some good chances to leave in 2010 and 2016, but stayed around for his kids who were young at the time. It was probably just time to move on, also he is probably maxed out at what UNI could offer.

Utah State is a solid program to jump too, not to mention Utah has some amazing scenery compared to Iowa....

Agreed. It could be worse than that though from a school standpoint. UNI is looking more and more like it will not be able to compete like it used to. UNI faces many headwinds. Enrollment is not great given it is a public university (sub 10,000), Cedar Falls is in an MSA of about 168,000 people (On the smaller side for MVC schools and many mid-majors), UNI ran a $3,000,000 deficit in its athletic budget last year, and probably close to the same this year. UNI's booster group raised $1.58M last year, and reportedly has a $1.4M revenue sharing fund now, but both are estimated to be lower than the other private schools in the MVC as well as the larger public ones like Illinois State and Southern IL. If UNI doesn't have very strong leadership involved in their revenue sharing, NIL, and booster support programs, it could realistically start progressing towards the bottom of the MVC. I suspect we will see continued bifurcation among mid-majors as certain programs overcome these challenges to a degree as compared to others.

Yes,if you listen to his last interview he mentioned about his kids being older and a good opportunity for him now and the time was right.
