clearing up some issues
I just wanted to post in response to this thread to clear up some rumors that are going around about the BU @ CU game on Saturday. This game was a part of the MVC "Wild Card" Weekend television package that was 'hands off' to Comcast (Insight) even though they wanted the game in their original package. As late as the first week in February, we were under the impression that there was a very good chance that this game would be selected under the Wild Card package by the conference, so there was not any preparation made by either Bradley or Comcast to broadcast the game. Losses by both us and Creighton during the first full week of February took the 'interest' in this game down a notch. We were finally told that the game would not be televised on February 11 and the game became available for another media outlet to broadcast the game. At that time, we approached Comcast about whether or not they would be interested in picking up the game, but coming off a loss at Indiana State, they were not in a huge hurry to get it on. Talks started in earnest the week of February 18th about getting the game on television, after wins against Creighton and at Drake, and while both Bradley and Comcast had a strong desire to make it happen, the further we pursued the possibility the more it became clear that it was going to be very difficult to put the game together from both a production and sales standpoint in less than 7 working days in a quality manner. We jointly decided that it would not be fair to our fans and sponsors to put a lower quality production on the air simply to 'get it on.'
I want to make it very clear that the recent incident with Daniel Ruffin had NOTHING to do with the decision for the game to be broadcast or not. This was simply a product of not having enough time to produce a quality broadcast and generate the revenue needed to produce that quality. At no time did any sponsors, local or national, pull their sponsorship because of this situation, and at no time did Comcast mention this as a consideration in being able to sell the game.
While we are disappointed that the game at Creighton will not be carried on television, we would encourage all Bradley fans to listen to the game on our radio partner, WMBD 1470 AM, and to watch the video stream online through bubraves.com.
