Bradley may see mascot change

In my make-believe utopia that I escape to from time to time, I imagine that we have gone back to that logo and those uniforms, and that we still have either Brad E. Lee or Tommy Hawk as our mascot.

Explain to me again how Tommy Hawk is offensive? Why can't we just resurrect him? It's a bird in a Bradley jersey named Tommy. If the NCAA draws some other conclusion that's their problem.

Amen.

My senior year, the student government did this too. it was even debated before the University senate, which is not the students, but the higher ups of the school so to speak. There was a decent amount of polling including several possible outcomes for a new mascot. Everything from a fireman or serviceman, to a gargoyle (the type glaring down from Bradley hall). When i left office in the government there was still the talk of the polling being passed onto the university senate again, who 'supposedly' actually commissioned some design/marketing agencies to develop logos, or templates. That was the last I heard of it, which would have been like 3 years ago. I always assumed that they just moved beyond it figuring it would be too costly to pursue. For the record they never had any intention of changing the name from the Braves, but rather just finding some why to create a physical manifestation of that.

Let's get it over with - quick and painless. One quick switch and be done with it.

Bradley Flyin' Squirrels

or

Bradley Sugar Gliders

Just do it - and do it quick.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the team or coach. If it's a distraction, then it's because they're very, very easily distracted and unfocused. They have nothing to do with this.
LOL!

I have a Legacy Bradley baseball hat that is green with Bradley written in cursive that I like!:-P

Also we can keep the Brave if we refer the Brave to a caricature in our national anthem...and the home of the BRAVES....We could have a pioneer looking guy running around with a musket and perhaps to be fair a girl in some prairie house looking garb.:?

There was a mascot committee 3 or 4 years ago. Mitch Griffin led the committee and if he couldn't get it done I doubt any other staff memeber can, especially in the marketing department. There were even suggestions put out and a voting process (gargoyle, military person, giant clock, etc.). The voting turned up no mascot as the winner. This is a moot point.

By the way, the mascot issue wouldn't change the nickname BRAVES, that would stay. They just wanted a brand extension so they could have a mascot at games and sell some merchandise. They really were probably going to stick with the current logo regardless of the mascot. After the bobcat fiasco and the last committee, I guarantee this goes nowhere. Glad our student senate is knowledgeable about the recent history...

I remember that poll and I was very glad that they chose No Mascot. Honestly I think we do just fine without a mascot. I couldn't imagine having something like ISU has with their Redbird running around during games. I feel that would be distracting and our fans have enough trouble staying in the game at times. I remember though that there were a bunch to choose from like Bradley Clocks, Bradley Squirrels, Bradley Gargoyles, etc.

Just came across this on the Bradley student blog... Take it for what it's worth.

My favorite part of that article was...

Changing our mascot gives the university freedom to change a number other things, as well. Maybe we can get rid of that slogan, ???One Tradition: Win.??? and finally change it to something meaningful and fitting:

???One Tradition: Blow double-digit leads at home and perennially finish in the middle of the pack.???

How about the Bradley "Asian Carp"? Could have a pretty cool carp outfitted mascot running around the floor juming into players/fans/officials anytime the band plays...Defines the Central Illinois persona pretty well.

Like I said before our student senate should be coming up with ideas to get better student attendance at the games , you have no say on this matter when you do not have the attendance to support it, the fans that have been attending BU games are the ones that count ( I have been going for over 40 years and see no reason for a mascot)

Captain Brave will probably get support from this crowd regardless of which camp you fall under.:D

I also forgot about those gargoyles on Bradley Hall! I could live with that as a mascot. Are there any other school that has a gargoyle as one?
