Alvin Brooks leaving Bradley staff

Tell us how you feel! 8 years? So you are saying Beucher Sr. and Merf were not good assistants? One retired and an another did not work out and if you do not think DV has not been helping out then you just have an agenda that you should share. So stop the BS and let us know.

Les > Merf > Buescher Sr. > Buescher Jr. > AB3

IMO

...because if TW joins it, this will be BY FAR the best staff we've had in a long, long time.

hmmm...DePaul people and a whole lot of others might be a bit skeptical...
we've gotten some pretty decent players out of the areas that Al Brooks has influence so I don't appreciate the dis on ABIII-
please list the accomplishments of TW at DePaul.........

so how many assistants do we have now and how many more will be hired?

Assistants are Jim Platt, and Kyle Vogt. The only open spot is the Alvin Brooks' position, and that is what Bradley is working on filling.

Jeremy Crouch is the Director of Basketball Operations, a non-coaching position.

Who did Alvin Brooks bring to BU? I know of Chris Roberts and AT.

Eddren McCain was because of AB3's connections in Houston (EM's hometown), though I realize Eddren didn't work out at BU.
Milos and Darian Norris were both through AB3's connections in Las Vegas.
And his extensive travel and legwork was responsible for landing many of the other recruits these last couple years. Alvin travelled more than any other coach the last 3 years.

I could tell from his Tweets that he was always on the road. I hope the new guy spends more time in the midwest to get guys that can play and might be more inclined to stick it out.

This is a huge misnomer IMO. I really don't think players from the midwest are more inclined to stay at a school in the midwest (see Mr. Illinois 2008 ). Kid's leave first and foremost because of PT, if they picked a school far away, they knew what they were getting into. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it's not nearly as prevalent as you make it sound here.

So, over the last 3 years, AB III's direct connections got us:

Eddren McCain
Anthony Thompson
Chris Roberts
Darian Norris
Milos Knezevic

Outside of Roberts, a pretty underwhelming haul...especially considering the time and $$$ that we had to invest in order to follow those kids...

I'd say that list fairly heavily supports the notion that we'd be better served by adding a recruiter that is better connected in the Midwest and that we spend far more of our time and resources recruiting that area than Texas and in the Far West.

That's why I'm hopeful that we could add a guy like Webster to the staff...that would really put us in a much better position to recruit as we go forward, IMO.

Yes, playing time is #1, that goes without saying. But to think that kids are smart enough to know what they are getting into when they pick a school is naive. They all think they're going to play a lot and make a splash.

Just compare the transfers that BU has had and you can see that the majority are not guys from the midwest. Maybe there's a correlation there, I'm just sayin.....

The better programs recruit all over! The top HS kids are playing away from home more and more. Do any of us know who else AB had looking at us down in TX. There's plenty of talent down there. There are a lot of you guys just speculating and if you are going negative wouldn't you want to know the whole picture before going there. AB3 seemed to have loved his job and I bet you the players really liked him. Of course there are those out there who like to roll everything in filth to be happy. You just have to take a stab.:?

Even though JC is a non-coaching position can't he still help at practices?

Though I believe AB3 has done a very good job for what he was hired for, I do think it could benefit Bradley greatly to have an assistant with connections and experience recruiting in Illinois, especialy Chicago.

I'm not implying that we should completely stop recruiting any kids that happen to be from somewhere other than a 5 state region in the Midwest...
I just think that the Midwest needs to be our overwhelming focus...and that we need to have as many people on our staff with as many connections in this region as posssible.
It just isn't realistic, IMO, to think that a small, private school from Peoria, IL was going to become a real factor in recruiting kids from Texas...kids that could truly play, anyway. I just never felt like we were ever going to get a decent return on our investment in recruiting that area as heavily as we did while AB III was here...and I just believe that a guy with more solid Midwest connections would have much, much more success in that role at BU than a guy with connections in Texas, Louisiana, Nevada, etc...

Not insulting AB III or the time he put in...I just think we'd be better served refocusing more of our efforts closer to home...not all of our efforts...just much more of them...

Haha, your allowing an extremely small sample size to assume a trend. I'm going to look at SIU and say that players from the midwest are MORE likely to transfer, which would be true if I only look at that population.

First of all I thought Depaul played much better with Webster as head coach. I thought he did fine. I also think we have a top assistant already hired so we don't have to hit a home run.

But..... I think Tracy Webster is one of the most over rated assistants I can think of. He didn't do anything at Illinois, and after he left and Jerrance Howard took over Illinois started getting recruits. Then he went to UK coach was fired, went to Depaul coach was fired. I really don't think he is a good recruiter. I would rather have the lower ranked David Booth if we were getting someone from Depaul.

PS Sorry this hits a hot button for me. I am not a fan.

And I am sure just like Chuck had nothing to do with our Sweet 16 run, TWeb had nothing to do with their Final Four run...
