2026-27 Exhibition Games

Just so happens I'll be in STL on other business this Friday. I plan to stop over and check out our exhibition game at SLU. Should be interesting.
it is part of the Billikens' season ticket holders' package, so quite a few seats (estimated 7,500-8,000 ) are already sold-

and Dub- if you are there, please post updates since there will be no radio or TV coverage.

Southern Illinois is playing an exhibition game tonight against Lindenwood in Carbondale.
SIU has undergone a major rebuild, as many MVC teams have. All 5 starters from last year are gone. They lost their top 4 scorers and their top 8 rebounders. Only 4 players who played last year return, but the only one who played a significant role is Jalen Haynes, who averaged 7.9 ppg. No other returners averaged more than 2 ppg. Of their 9 new players, they have 4 true freshmen, 2 redshirt-freshmen, 2 non-D1 transfers (D2 and NAIA), and a junior college transfer. Scott Nagy has not had a winning season yet in his 2 seasons at SIU, and this year will be his biggest challenge, IMO.

One of SIU's new players this season is a former Bradley recruit, Luke Walsh. He was a high scoring, sharpshooting 6'3" guard from St. John Vianney HS in St. Louis. He was a 2025 recruit who redshirted his first year at SIU.
Their other redshirt player is Daniel Pauliukonis from Benet HS in Lisle, Illinois. He is a 6'9" forward from the class of 2025 who helped lead SIU to the Class 4A state title in 2025. There are no reports that Bradley recruited him, but he had offers from UIC and Illinois State, along with numerous other mid-majors.
Their other 7 new players are:
4 Freshmen- 2026-27 roster. Jeremiah Jackson, Ty Laur, Pietro Ranieri and Luke Susko
And their 3 transfers- Jaxson Fugate (20.7 points, 8.4 rebounds at Indiana Tech), Donovan Hill (16.3 points, 8.3 rebounds at Saint Leo) and Brock McClure (15.2 points, 9.1 rebounds at Snow College)

Final score- Marquette 87 - Green Bay 60 ...
Jaynes impressed me with his ability to get to the hoop. He was actually the 3rd best on their team last year in points scored per 40 min,
but didn't log nearly as many minutes as the 5 main starters.

Interesting that Green Bay has already played two exhibitions against BIG NAME opponents,
Big Ten Wisconsin and Big East Marquette and they have one more Saturday against ILLINOIS STATE...
and ALL THREE are home games played at Green Bay!
How did they swing that and get three solid opponents to come to their place?

....
uh oh - Upset alert...
Lindenwood is playing tough in Carbondale.
SIU had an 11-point lead in the 1st half, but lost most of it and halftime score is SIU 36 - Lindenwood 34
Jaylen Hayes has 17 points already.
Lindenwood's Marsai Mason has 11 pts & 11 rebounds (juco kid from AZ, Lindenwood was his only offer)
******************

update- 2-point game in the final minute

SIU turned the ball over on a shot clock violation up 2 with 20 seconds left giving Lindenwood a chance to tie or win,
then fouled with 8 sec left but amazingly Lindenwood missed BOTH FT's that could have tied....
SIU survives 75-71

SIU's Jalen Haynes 25 pts, 6 reb, 7 asst
Lindenwood's Masai Mason 14 pts, 13 reb
