2022-23 Bradley schedule

What is with the 4:00 pm. start time against Akron on Thursday, December 22nd?! Seems really odd with fans still at work..

Hmmm, I've never seen that kind of start time for a weekday before.

The Bradley semester break starts December 14 and runs through January 3, 2023. Graduation is Saturday, Dec 17. So it doesn't appear to have anything to do with the Bradley academic calendar. And there is nothing else on the Civic Center calendar, either.
If anyone has a guess, let us know.

My guess is that since the 23rd is a holiday for most people for getting Christmas Eve on the 23rd, they wanted to have a late afternoon game in case people wanted to head out of town early? Seems strange though.

Absolutely hate the mid afternoon starting times for the home games. Will miss 2 of the 6 non-con home games. :-x I HATE missing home games.

I'm hearing the conference part of the schedule is getting close to being released by the MVC. Many conferences have released their schedules by now.
Last year, with the simpler home-and-home, 10-team/18 game format, the schedule was not released until September 14, 2021-

This year, the schedule is a bit more complicated with 12-teams, and 20 games, meaning teams will play some opponents twice, and others just once.

Looks like my source is accurate.
PJS sportswriter Dave Eminian tweeted-
"Hearing that Bradley men’s basketball conference schedule comes out from Missouri Valley Conference tomorrow. Word is both Murray State and Belmont will be among BU’s home-and-home series. Stay tuned"

Looks like Bradley will be making road trips to Nashville, TN and Murray, KY.

Makes me happy! My house is 25 minutes from Belmont

Should be a lot of fun! Hope it’s correct…

I would think the teams at far north/south of the conference would be the candidates for the non-home and home portion of the schedule.

Indiana State beat writer Todd Golden reporting that the MVC men's conference schedule will be released tomorrow (Thursday, Sept. 15)-

And, Evansville reporter now reporting that the MVC women's conference schedule will be released Friday-

The MVC confirms that the men's conference schedule will be released tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 15. And the women's conference schedule will be released Friday, Sept. 16.

Weekend game at UIC should be fun for Bradley fans in the Chicago area, they don't have the fan base of Loyola so it should be easy to get tickets. Their stadium is much easier to get to vs Loyola being so far on the North side too.

Not a fan of both games vs Illinois State being on Wednesdays though.

I am very excited for the season, we should really be a top 3 team this year. I want a regular season championship to go along with the tournament.

A few things I notice about the MVC schedule-
For the second year in a row, Bradley starts it's MVC schedule at home against UNI. This year it is in November (Wed., Nov. 30).
That opening UNI game is followed by the long road trip to Missouri State on Saturday, Dec. 3.
Then after a 4-week break, the MVC games resume with games against the 3 new MVC teams- Belmont, UNI, & Murray State.
That sequence starts with a road trip to Belmont right after Christmas (Wed., Dec 28 ) probably during their student break.
Bradley returns to Peoria for a home game Dec. 31 against UIC, then heads back out on a road trip to Murray State Jan. 4 (hopefully also during student break). Playing at Belmont and Murray State might have been easier to do on the same road trip, but there aren't any such 2-game road trips.
There are only 3 back-to-back road games, and all of them will involve a trip back home between games-
January 14 & 18 at Drake & Indiana State
February 4 & 8 at Northern Iowa & Illinois State
Feb. 19 & 22 at SIU & Valpo

And as Mikovio posted, the two teams Bradley only plays once are Evansville (only at home), and Indiana State (only on the road). That is a bit unfortunate, since a game at Evansville would have given Bradley a very good chance at a road win. And playing Indiana State in Terre Haute has usually resulted in a loss, while Bradley usually has won that game in Peoria.

Yeah-Not playing Evansville twice is an issue(assuming they are the worst in the league). With the unbalanced schedule if it comes down to a close call between finishing 4 vs 5 in the league if one of the teams played Evansville twice but one of the top teams only once there is a big advantage for the team playing Evansville twice and a top team only once. Remember the key is to finish in the top 4 this year since the other 8 teams have to play 4 consecutive days to win the tournament title. Hopefully we will be solidly higher in the standings than that.
