Illinois State will get an at-large bid to the NIT.
But the NIT did reveal that they will be experimenting with some new rules for this year's NIT games-

The NIT teams and bracket has been released-
http://i.turner.ncaa.com/sites/default/files/external/gametool/brackets/nit_mens_2017.pdf

Illinois State is a #1 seed and plays at home Wednesday, March 15 at 8:30 PM Central against UC Irvine.
Illinois is a seed #2 seed and plays at home Tuesday at 6:15 PM against Valparaiso.
If both teams advance to the 3rd round, Illinois will play ISU in Normal.

There are no other MVC teams playing in the NIT (other than ISU). Last year, George Washington won the NIT, and Valparaiso was the runner up.

TWO things I predicted in NIT.... I was worried about UCF and the 7'6" Tacko Fall.... thought that could be a problem to matchup against and was hoping they were NOT in ISU's bracket... of course... they ARE. SECONDLY... as soon as Alec Peters was done at Valpo, I predicted the scenario that UIUC gets NIT bid and first round gimmee with Valpo WITHOUT Alec Peters. What a JOKE!

BTW - regarding these new rules.... and it doesn't clearly state it... the fouls are no longer 1-1 after so many... they are 2. So.... team fouls each quarter, once you get to 5, it is 2 shots. Period. Reset at next quarter. Get to 5, 2 shots.

Secondly - many may not like 4 Quarters.... seems like HS or whatever. But this eliminates a media timeout. Moves the game along faster. (media timeouts at 16, 12, 8 and 4 .... new rule, media at under 5, at the 1/4, then under 5)

I am liking these new rules.

This is not true, they received an Automatic Bid the the NIT

"ISU was awarded an automatic bid to the NIT by virtue of the Redbirds
winning a share of the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title.."

The new rules also mean that no matter how many fouls there are in the game, there still may be a lot of games where the final 4-5 minutes of the game don't march to the FT line a ton of times because the teams may still be several fouls shot of the bonus.

Who will be coaching Illinois in the NIT?

could Alec Peters come back & play and make a short run just for the chance to play in the post-season, or would it risk his pro options enough to say no...

Peters had surgery on his foot just last Friday (3 days ago), so I'd guess there is no chance.

Getting beat by point margins of 20 and 40 points by a 10 seed didn't help ISU.

Wichita State is not a 10 seed!!!! Again the bias of the NCAA.. Now what Wichita has to do is win. Also when they do everyone needs to get on twitter and send messages to NCAA. Blow their skirts up

I didn't make them a 10 seed, the NCAA did. And if in their opinion they were, getting beat by 20 and 40 by Wichita sure didn't help ISU.

Agree that WSU is no #10 seed. The MVC got a screw job by the NCAA committee...what's new?

Looks like the Valley is basically a 1 bid pony from here on out.

Has any non-BCS conference made it to the Sweet 16 and beyond as often as the MVC?
Does any so-called Mid-Major Conference have the history and legacy that the MVC has?
Could it be that the big boys truly fear playing an MVC team in the post-season? (Ask Kansas, Pitt, etc..)

Obviously Butler had a couple nice runs while in the Horizon, but the MVC has put NUMEROUS teams into at least the Sweet Sixteen over the years and notably many times just since 1999

Bradley - Sweet 16 in 2006
Drake - Final Four in 1969, Elite 8 in 1970, Elite 8 in 1971
Indiana State - played in the Championship game in 1979, surprised Oklahoma and nearly got to Sweet 16 in 2001
Loyola - NATIONAL CHAMPIONS in 1963, Final Four and took home 3rd Place in 1964, Sweet 16 in 1985
Missouri State - Sweet 16 in 1999
Northern Iowa - Sweet 16 in 2010
SIU - Sweet 16 in 2002, Sweet 16 in 2007
Wichita State - Elite 8 in 1964, Final Four in 1965, Elite 8 in 1981, Sweet 16 in 2006, Final Four in 2103, Sweet 16 in 2015
Tulsa - Sweet 16 in 1994, Sweet 16 in 1995

If you take Wichita out of the picture, which it appears will be soon, in the last 20 years the Valley has had a team reach the Sweet 16, three times. That's not very many.

five times in the past 20 years even without Wichita State...
Bradley in 2006
UNI in 2010
SIU in 2002, 2007
Missouri State 1999

ISU has priced their tickets very reasonably at $15 for most lower bowl and $10 upper bowl....
They should be able to draw well... hope their students realize what they have and show up in masses.

If you recall, when we hosted a post-season games back in 2013 - we shot ourselves badly in the foot by pricing all seats literally out of the range of newer fans & families...
Even for a far lower caliber tourney (CBI) our admin started ticket prices at $20 each even for the worst end-zone seats - and them up from there but you had to be a season ticket holder to even qualify for a seat between the baselines!
http://www.bradleyfans.com/vb/showpost.php?p=277216&postcount=2

In the end, they claimed the attendance was 1800 but anyone who was there will recall 3/4 of those seats were empty with the real attendance more like 400-500 and the media took off on the fan base (remember "putrid"?) instead of the admin who screwed it up so bad.
