Tom Crean fired at Indiana - IU will pay $4 million buyout and hire someone else...

Indiana fans are a bit unrealistic. Now the majority sentiment from fans is they want Steve Alford. I don't think Alford would want to deal with the situation at IU, and he's got a pretty good deal at UCLA. Others want Brad Stevens, or I am hearing Billy Donovan, both now coaching in the NBA. They probably wouldn't give up their lucrative pro deals for the job at IU either. I think they might go after Chris Mack, Archie Miller, or open the bank to try to get Mark Few. We'll probably also hear Gregg Marshall's name thrown around. Indiana has an almost unlimited amount of money they can offer if necessary. IU grad Mark Cuban has donated millions to their programs, though he might not be so happy to do so now, since he was a friend and supporter of Tom Crean.

On the other hand, Crean will have plenty of other offers.

Did Indiana change their mind about Crean?
 
Tom Crean being mentioned (unofficially) as a possibility at Cal.

Also, a lot of sports media people are reporting that Steve Alford would take the Indiana job. He is still coaching UCLA in the NCAA Tournament, so of course, nothing has happened officially, yet. But the questions have caused Alford to make a statement about how much he likes UCLA, but he stopped short of saying he wouldn't take the IU job-

Alford has some of the very top recruits lined up for the next 3 years, makes about $3 mil per year...and has a glamor job at UCLA
After seeing what the IU admin & fans have done to each of the last four coaches they had (Knight, Davis, Sampson, Crean..) I would be surprised that they could pay enough to lure him into that trap.


One of the Indiana writers just mentioned Dane Fife in the running but I would incredibly suprised.

Fife has a career DI head coaching record of 82-97 and never higher than 4th with only ONE winning conference record in the weak Summit League
 
Illinois moves quickly and hires Brad Underwood from Oklahoma State. He previously coached at Stephen F. Austin.

IMO, Illinois moved far too fast in hiring a new coach. There are lots of terrific coaches available and the Illinois job is a very good one in a great conference. I hope the new guy does well but I think they could have done better had they been a little more patient.

Not being arumentative, but out of curiosity, why don't you think he is a good fit?
 
Coppin State does not renew the contract of Head Coach Michael Grant. He was 25-69 in his 3 seasons there.
