2009 BU commitment- Jordan Prosser

I really don't expect prosser to play the 5 next year. I think he'd be a bit on the small end for that...eventho I don't have his height & weight in front of me.

I think he'll be more of a 4 for us

Understood BradleyBrave but finishing at the rim against 6-4 dudes from Fieldcrest is a lot different than doing so in the MVC.

If Prosser gives us 15 minutes, 5-6 points and 4-5 rebounds a game then it will be a great success. Freshmen big men aren't major contributors in the MVC very often. Just look at the history of the league.

yes, but he was doing it against 2 or 3 6-3, 6-4 players all year. That counts for something.

Understood. But, again, I look at the long history of the MVC. Freshmen big men rarely make big statements. I like Prosser as a recruit but he isn't a whole lot different than guys who have come into the league.
 
Thinking he will be just fine at the 4....not the 5...although he could fill time there if needed...I would expect 10-15 minutes a game.....

OK, is he as skilled as Deon Jackson??? Talk about someone who tried to dunk everything anywhere near the basket. That guy was strong.
 
In Valley games, DC is averaging 4.6 pts/game and 4 rebounds/game. SS is averaging 4.6 pts/game and 3.1 rebounds/game. If we get 5-6 pts per game and 4-5 rebounds out of JP along with SS's stats going up a little and Egolf contributing, as well as Brown we could be scary good in the post next year. And that would open up shots for Warren and SM.... oh man.......
 
Prosser is a true post player and if he and Will were in at tha same time I would have to think Will would play the 4 spot. With as good as our guards should be next season it should make it somewhat easier for our post players so I would not be worried about J.P. being a freshman because he is a good player.
 
I have never seen Prosser play but look at O'Rear from UNI and Fay from SIU. Both were excellent Class A post players and really provided nothing until their Sophomore years. Ecpect the same from Prosser. This is in no way a shot against him. The jump from Class A high school basketball to the Valley is huge and he will struggle with this just like virtually every class A post player.

I agree! Let's not get carried away with JP. I bet by the time the MVC tournament begins he'll be so much better... The speed and strength of the game from HS at any level to Division I is quite difficult to overcome in a few months especially for the bigs. There is a huge difference between an 18 year old and a 21 year old. I look forward to seeing him come off the bench and giving us TB like performance anything else would be icing. Right now he is a man amoung boys but at the next level he'll just be like everyone else.

That's a very valid point, and I don't think that would be a knock on JP if this turned out to be the case. All the more reason why an extra year of an established post player like Sam Singh is a good thing.

I wouldn't draw conclusions based on no direct evidence!

Prosser is more skilled than both of these guys. He's a far better offensive player than Fay.

Also, a straight comparison of their careers in Class A and the assumption it's a big leap doesn't hold water here. Putnam County plays in a weak conference, and Nashville is a small southern IL. school that plays teams with not much physical presence. Eureka is in the Corn Belt, a strong conference night in and night out that plays a very physical style.

More importantly, don't forget that Prosser was a standout on the AAU circuit against top players from all over the country and coveted by big-time D1 programs. Fay and O'Rear's top level of recruiting was the Valley.

JP is a capable big who will easily be the best post player BU has next year. He should start or at least get big minutes right out of the box.

I don't understand how people can comment on Prossers playing time when they have not seen him play. He WILL be our best post player next year. BOOK IT! I have seen him play several times this year and also saw Fay play in high school. Fay couldn't hold Prossers jock strap!!!!

I kind of agree. I have been guilty of projecting out guys in the past without having seen them play, and a lot of the time I was way off. I've seen Prosser play a bunch, and he's gonna be a good one!

I don't disagree, but don't forget Prosser has probably played more AAU games than high school games, and in those games he is playing with and against the best.

I could use Anthony Booker as an example as well. He was more highly rated and recruited than Prosser yet has strugled all season. He shined on the AAU circuit as well.

By all accounts, Prosser is legit and could be a stud in this league. It should be expected starting his sophomore year is all I am saying. He will not be great as a freshman. I cannot think of one dominating freshman big man in recent Valley history. Add to this the fact that the Valley should be much stronger next year and Prosser should be expected to struggle somewhat. He will have some good games especially towards the end of the year but will really struggle at times.

I was in no means trying to knock on your player by any means. I just think that people, especially some of my fellow Saluki's put too much faith in freshman to contribute.

I have seen Prosser and saw Fay....completely different players...Fay was not a post player at all and Prosser can play there...Prosser also has the ability to take a bigger player on the dribble or shoot the ball from the perimeter as well....the only thing JP does not have that Fay had is a "3" mentality......IMHO

I hope he never gets that mentality. JP has too much talent and skill around the basket to waste it chuckin 3's. We saw WE waste his talent last year doing that, we don't need that happening again.
