New MVC Blog

I am going to do a five part series examining the ten best MVC men's hoops players in each class. Today, I started with the freshmen/first-years.

Good article.
Bradley's Connor Hickman is listed #3 on his list of Top 10 Freshmen.

I have no issue with his #1 choice, Tucker DeVries of Drake. He leads a talented Drake team in scoring and barring an injury, he will be the consensus Freshman of the Year in the MVC.
However, the #2 player, Micah Thomas of Indiana State, who is listed as a freshman by Indiana State, is not technically a freshman. He played one season last year at Northwest Florida State College, a junior college in Niceville, Florida, and lead the team in scoring. Some teams, like Indiana State are classifying their 2nd year players as "freshmen" because of the NCAA ruling last year granting every player an extra season of eligibility.

But, by the definition in the article, he would be a sophomore (2nd-year player).

You are correct sir. I did a little checking on each guy by looking at their ESPN stats, but since Thomas played at a JUCO his stats didn't show up so I was bamboozled. Several people pointed this out to me and I made the correction. Hickman is now #2 on the list and now Bradley's Zek Montgomery joins the list at #10.

As we hit the (scheduled) midway point of the league season, I have a new batch of power rankings. I'll also take a look at who I think each team's second best player is. Would be curious to see what you think of my selection. I gave Roberts the #1 spot, but I haven't seen you all play a lot since Mast caught fire. Who do you think is your #1 guy right now?

Great article. Your BU assessment is great and I agree with you about Roberts and Mast, though honestly right now they’re 1 and 1A. They both will have to be considered for all-Valley 1st team if they keep up their current production. They both really do it all and do it all well. Haven’t been this excited about a Braves team since we won the tourney in 2019.

I agree 100% with this take. Roberts has been a stud all year, and Mast has evolved into one of the best players in the league.

Nice job. The fact that Bradley doesn't have any super-seniors and all 4 teams ahead of them rely quite a bit on them, gives Bradley fans a lot of optimism for next season.

I agree. I watched the UNI-Bradley game and when they announced the starting lineups I was taken aback by how young ya'll are.
