New MVC Blog

I wrap up my thoughts on Arch Madness and the UNI situation in this week's article. I also talk about the upcoming commissioner hire, possible alternative locations for Arch Madness, and the oft-discussed topic of expansion.

https://www.missourivalleybeat.com/post/arch-madness-port-mortem-what-s-next-for-the-valley

I intend to continue to create MVC content as Drake and Loyola's seasons continue. Plus I have an idea for a fun article next week. So I am not done yet. But this does sort of feel like a season wrap up article in many ways.

Hello Braves Fans! I have two new articles for your consumption.

No new power rankings but I do have tid-bits. I pontificate on Loyola and Drake in the NCAAs, another weird COVID situation for the MVC at Hoops in the Heartland, Indiana State's reported new coach and a mid-major laden NIT field here:

https://www.missourivalleybeat.com/...e-indy-st-women-s-hoops-and-the-mid-major-nit

In my other piece I put together what a Mid Major NCAA Tournament might have looked like if the NCAA was split into two subdivisions in basketball similar to football:

https://www.missourivalleybeat.com/post/alternate-reality-mid-major-basketball-championship

As always, you can follow me on Twitter @BeatMVC

Thanks everyone!

I already sent a note asking him to edit the piece as it slams Ja’shon re. the Missouri State incident and I asked him to clear up that Ja’shon had no involvement, was quickly cleared and went on to play…

Thanks for trying to get this corrected, though as of now, it has not been corrected yet.

Considering the blogger claims: "I spent quite a bit of time on this and have been working on it off and on for the last two weeks", I am amazed he got this so wrong. Here is what his blog says about Bradley-

"Elijah Childs, Danya Kingsby, Terry Nolan and Ja’Shon Henry were lost for the remainder of the season. The difference was striking....

Of the group of suspended players only Ja’Shon Henry (10.9 PPG, 4.6 RPG) returns. I am not spending any time in the BU locker room, but I can imagine he lost some credibility with his teammates after his suspension."

Of course, Ja'Shon Henry missed only the 2 games at Missouri State and was reinstated a couple days later and played in Bradley's final 4 games. He was cleared of any involvement in the incident, and the blogger needs to correct his piece.
Kingsby and Nolan were also later "released" from any involvement in the case by the Springfield police, though the blogger fails to include this important fact.

But his statement that Ja'Shon "lost some credibility with his teammates" could not be further from the truth. I would hope that if the blogger is concerned about facts and accuracy that he corrects his mistakes.

It appears the blog has now been edited, and now reads:

....the biggest blow was the indefinite suspension of their four best players with 11 games remaining. Elijah Childs, Danya Kingsby, Terry Nolan and Ja’Shon Henry were lost for the remainder of the season.

The reference to Ja'Shon losing credibility with his teammates has been removed, but not to be too picky, the "correction" is still incorrect. The suspensions happened Feb. 13 at Missouri State. Childs, Nolan, and Kingsby did miss the remaining 5 regular season games (2 at Missouri State, and home games against Illinois State and two against Drake), plus the MVC Tournament game. That was a total of 6 games, not 11. And as previously mentioned, Ja'Shon Henry was not "lost for the remainder of the season. He was reinstated a couple days after the team returned from Missouri State, so he missed only the 2 games at MSU before he rejoined the team.

Hey Everyone,

I definitely made a mistake. I apologize to ya'll and Ja'Shon. I am not journalist or writer as my day job and I saw the error but it took me awhile to fully correct it. Honestly I forgot about Ja'Shon being exonerated and I just saw the old articles naming him and pulled up your last couple games and Arch Madness box scores from last year and he wasn't in them and I just glossed over it. My error 100%.

As you saw, I made a small adjustment at first but made a bigger adjustment yesterday and added a correction to the top of the page. You can see that here: https://www.missourivalleybeat.com/post/2021-22-missouri-valley-conference-basketball-preview . I definitely messed up and I own it and apologize.

That said, I put together a quick read ranking the ten MVC basketball openers by difficulty if you'd still like to see any of my stuff. I understand if you don't.

Good luck on Tuesday. Apologies for my error. I will do better.

My updated power rankings are below. I zeroed in on who I thought every team's best player is and how they are performing. I also took a quick look at how the expansion candidates are doing on the floor. I plan to take a closer look at the candidates next week. GO VALLEY!

https://www.missourivalleybeat.com/p...power-rankings

Good work. Outside of Loyola, the MVC is really looking overrated this season, so far. Virtually every current team is underperforming, except the team slated to leave (Loyola), and even the teams rumored to be candidates to be added are not looking very good on paper.
The MVC currently ranks #22 in Conference RPI-
https://www.warrennolan.com/basketba...rpi-conference

That is the worst Conference RPI ranking of any season since the RPI was invented. It still could improve a little, but, the MVC conference season resumes in 3 weeks, and from that point, there will be very little improvement.

Here is the MVC rank for recent seasons-
