Wow ... that was the worst excuse for a basketball broadcast that I have heard in 30 years as a BU basketball fan. The sound quality was awful, Coach Wardle's post-game comments were literally inaudible over the feedback, and Dave Snell, whom I have always regarded as a talented professional, couldn't even be bothered to speak up during the last 15 minutes of the game. He didn't know who was in the game, who had the ball, or even whether the ball had gone through the hoop. PATHETIC and unworthy of a major basketball program.

sorry to hear that except the audio I heard in the postgame obviously was some electronic interference that had nothing to do with Snell or guys doing the broadcast.

Everyone deserves a mulligan

I agree T, and I'll keep listening. The most disappointing was Snell -- he is a talented guy, but I swear he didn't even want to be there. This is not the time for him to lose his enthusiasm.

Re-listen to the final offensive possession of the 1st half and tell me Snell has lost his enthusiasm.

It sounds like WMBD won't pay for an engineer at the games now......so Dave is on his own while broadcasting

Yeah...running his own console for the first time since 1982, learning 10 new guys, plus the entire roster of an obscure DIII team he'll never use again. Things will get better.

I think the criticism on Dave may be a bit harsh. You begin to lack enthusiasm when so many things go wrong. Just natural to get down on yourself and the situation, professional or not (pretty sure I can cite professional broadcasters who have exhibited a similar behavior when running into multiple technical issues) . If you listened to their sign-off, you could tell both Dave and Chad were a bit exasperated. I've helped broadcast some sporting events before and after a couple mistakes (yourself or another member of the team) you begin to get a little miffed.

I agree. Dave is a great announcer. I couldn't hear the Coach Wardle interview due to a poor ground or somethIng. A tech needs to be on site to fix technical problems. Tough enough to announce the games and give the insights he provides. I'd miss Dave. He has my support. When I met him, I found him to be a personable and genuine fellow. We are lucky to have him.

With the simplicity of today's cell phones and internet-based communications (like Skype, etc), wouldn't it be easy for WMBD to have a backup or alternative option for when their remote connections fail?
It's one thing to have a connection failure, all radio and TV broadcasts have them, but to remain off-air for long periods and not have any backup option, or for the station not to be able to recognize or fix the problem seems like WMBD has taken a giant step back into the 1950's.

Bradley basketball should be broadcast on FM, period. I like listening to the post game on the way home. By the time I get to the Peoria County jail the feed is fuzzy and by Hanna City it is gone. I am not sure why this change has not been made. It is a little frustrating, though.

WMBD does broadcast simultaneously on FM 100.3.
Note the frequency numbers in the left upper corner on their web page-

I never listen to FM 100.3, since I usually get AM1470 just fine, but I assume they broadcast the game and pre- and post-game programs.

This sounds like a great opportunity for the Charley Steiner School of Communication to step up and show their chops. Certainly, there must be students willing to step up for unpaid (or low pay) internships.

You got me on that one because I only heard the second half, and during the second half of the second half it was SOOOOO frustrating -- I couldn't even tell which team had the ball, let alone which player. Between the static interference and Dave's barely audible grunting, I almost didn't recognize it as a BU broadcast. I think Snell has been a GREAT play-by-play guy and a tremendous asset to BU. That's why it was so disappointing. I trust he will get it back. As to the technical problems, BU admin will have to insist that if the current broadcaster won't do a professional job, they'll find someone who will. We also need the BU folks to get re-broadcast up by midnight, and high quality.

if you are bored and want something that'll give just about any BRADLEY fan tingles down the spine..

give this one minute video a look - it's great fun and reminds you how fortunate we are to have Dave Snell all these years...

and remember when we had a mascot that was the Indian (Brave) in full regalia and headdress!!

I talked to Dave about the broadcast at the luncheon today....anything that could go wrong went wrong. He had no engineer so he had had to mess with problems while doing the game. Nobody was more frustrated than Dave...it all looks good now

Thank you Tornado! This is a great find and brings back so many fantastic memories, especially the REAL Bradley Brave. I sure hope BU can give Dave Snell a memorable retirement present in a few years and let him call a winner on his way out.
