Wild weather

Guess it's still snowing in Peoria. Out here in Mesa we had to cover the plants the past 3 nights. Darn it. Warms up nice for golf though and as much I swing I can get warm in a hurry.

Forcasted of 1 inch from what I heard yesterday.....rain turned to snow while I was in Champaign around 2 pm and its been snowing off and on (more on) in Peoria ever since.

I'm guessing 4-6 inches but its very "fluffy".....easy on the back to shovel. :)

Its still coming down but appears to be waning.....

Nice day to camp out at home and play with the new baby. :)
 
Yesterday it was in the 60s and I took a nice hike up Mt. Tamalpais and ate lunch outside on top of a ridge over looking the Bay. :D

Today though we are getting a bit of rain. :cry:
 
Drove back to Peoria from Chicago this morning and had snow hitting me the entire way. Now I've been sitting at the Markin Center working all day and I haven't seen it stop snowing but it also doesn't look like it is snowing very hard.

I knew I should have moved to CA after getting out of the Army. J/K - I like the Midwest. My cousin grew up in San Clemente and went to Stanford, so I was out there 4-5 times and did some body surfing in the Pacific, that was interesting, it was a red flag day, what did I know, I saw the red flag blowing, he should have told me! Maybe he did and I don't remember, maybe I'm posting from Heaven, but that was one wild day that I survived. Was fun :eek: to get slammed into the sand, after swimming a hundred yards out and riding the wave back, and realize you're still in over your head, get a cramp in the leg pushing off the bottom and then riptide pushing your legs out from under you and having another wave crash on you and pound you down again, if I only knew to turn my shoulder to get out of the first wave. I made it in on my own but it was a fight that I'll never forget.

But if I had ever thought of moving permanently anywhere, it was Peoria. Some of the best years I had. And I'd now be a certified member the local "rat pack", and I mean that in a very good way.
 
Forecast for yesterday and today, 1/2 friday to 1 inch today of snow, I believe we are working on at least 6 inches of snow at this time in N.Peoria, hate the snow and wish I was somewhere tropical at the moment.
 
Yeah, I would guess 6-8 inches so far here by Northwoods Mall in Peoria plus freezing fog with it this morning. Made for a very treachorous drive into Bradley this morning. Was suppose to only get 2-4 inches by this evening, WRONG FORECASTERS. I'm just thankful that we didn't get that Oklahoma City blizzard on Christmas Eve. Freezing rain, a foot of snow then 30-40 mph winds. I was listening to OKC FD online and so many fire trucks were getting stuck that it was taking the plows hours to get to them. Some of the drifts were so high that they had to bring in front end loaders to get them out. One of there worst storms ever.

On my illustrious drive to work this morning the National Weather Service was reporting "between 1/4 and 1/2 inch of snow" had fallen in Peoria. (as heard on the Saturday Morning Sports Page on WMBD 1470) It's bad enough to be wrong about the forecast. You don't have to back it up with complete lies. Then they said maybe an inch for today. EENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN wrong again. The last time I heard spin like this was when a certain newly hired coach told us to "fasten your seatbelts"...I guess I took that to mean that we would see prolific offense. Instead, he must have meant protect yourself it's gonna be a bumpy ride! ;-)

Please don't delete this post-don't you see how I got this weather topic back to basketball???

Don't be hating on the NWS...I work for them in Tulsa, so I know how it works. They send out snow reports that the media picks up as they get the reports in. So obviously one of their spotters from Peoria gave them the 1/4-1/2 inch report and the NWS office in Lincoln sent that out at that time...likely very early in the pre-dawn hours. WMBD was still reading that old report when you heard it. Perhaps they should have stated the time that the NWS issued the report.

It was the number one worst storm ever in OKC. Tulsa was nearly as bad, with 1.5 inches of sleet followed by 8 inches of windblown snow. All that ice under the snow resulted in chaos on the roads there as well. I'm in Wisconsin at my in-laws for the Holidays, so I missed it all...had mostly rain up here, with just about an inch of snow today.

From what I've seen, 2-4" more looks reasonable for Peoria late tonight and Sunday. There will be no problems getting the game in Tuesday.

Weather models agree with ya. Looking like somewhere in the 2-3 inch range. Problem being, the "fluff factor" for the snow is about 30 to 1, so although the system may not have a huge abundance of moisture, we get a good amount of snow.
 
According to the PJ Star, Saturday saw Peoria get 6.9" of snow. Set a record for the day (previous record was 2"). Here on Sunday morning, it is still snowing and they are saying on The Weather Channel that we are going to get another 1"-3".

By the way, does anyone know what the Latin definition for "meteorologist" is?

We've had at LEAST 8 inches IMO. I've shoveled 4 times allready today about an inch each time.
 
Well, Peoria averages 25 inches of snow a yr and i'd say we have had about a foot at least with today's snow added in. Another couple of these and it will be an above average snow winter. 2009 was already Peoria's wettest yr with this weeks heavy precip. At about 57 inches of precip, record was 55 inches.
