Its a holiday today hear in Mexico so nothing else to do as the wife is in the US.....whats everyone starting five with what we know now?

Collins
Salley
Ruff
JC
JF

Not a bad line up and the bench may be just as good!!!!!

We discuss depth every year and it seems it ends up being 7 players....this year I REALLY see legit depth IF everything stays true to form.

BU had depth in the 2005-06 season. One of the reasons for the late success. I agree that it has been an issue most years.

As far as lineups go, I like the one 'thefish7' gave. It makes BU a running team with a lot of good options on offense.

We went 8-9 deep down the stretch in the Sweet 16 year -

Ruffin
Bennett
Tauai
Sommerville
O'Bryant

Franklin
Wright
Andrews
Adams (limited minutes)

I envision the same next year, but with more full court trapping. My depth chart goes this way -

Ruffin
Crouch
Fears
Warren
Collins

Salley
Brown
Cole-Scott
Egolf
Singh

Thompson (redshirt)
Maniscalco (redshirt)

I think with the signing of Collins, a Thompson redshirt year is a definate possibility...I like a starting five of...

Ruff
Fears
Crouch
Salley
Either R. Brown or A. Warren

Maniscalco a redshirt? I just don't see it. I understand we're deep at guard but everything I have read about him says he could contribute right away. I also don't think JL is as quick to handout RS's as this board is, players don't want to come in and RS. What if they injured later, then they are pretty much losing a year of eligibility, not to mention I just don't think players what to come into and not be able to get in to a game. I haven't seen SM in person or anything, but it seems like with what the staff can do SM can be a solid contributor.

As things stand right now, I like this starting line-up... throw the big guy in right away to get him experience.

The only reason I am saying a SM redshirt is because I don't want to lose a year of eligibility with him like we did with Ray Brown. I don't see many minutes next year with Ruffin, Cole-Scott, and Fears all being able to handle the point. When Ruffin leaves, Sam can slide right into a role as a redshirt freshman, and be ready to handle the duties full-time once Cole-Scott and Fears graduate in '08-'09. If BU would sustain a season-ending injury to one of the players mentioned above, they can always un-redshirt Sam he redshirts from the start of the preseason.

I agree with all your points there, I just think it will be difficult to get a recruit like SM to RS, but then again SM doesn't seem like to many other recruits, coming to his dad's alma mater when he easily could have gone to a 'bigger' school.

"kaboom" meaning the ceremonial tapping of the first keg to honor the start basketball season right?????

None of you have DWilliams in the lines ups. I know there is a lot of speculation on his arrival but if he does make it into BU, he has to be in the starting 5 wouldnt he?

Ok, not starting 5 but top 10 of the players within the program.

My vote for starting lineups will follow JL's "four starting positions will be up for grabs" philosophy from spring of '06. Barring anything catastrophic happening, it'll actually be 3 (I can't see him benching Ruff/JC in favor of anyone else).

I think they, especially the new guys, should duke it out in practice for those prize spots. That way, we know they'll be doing practice full-out, not just going through the motions. It also gives us a chance to mix it up a little, depending on our opponent, while making us nearly impossible to scout.

Thing is there are too many question marks right now. Will the new guys show up ready to play (or will they show up at all)? Will anyone RS? Will SS pull a JC and blow us all away next year? Will a year of practice and no play be a positive or negative for RB and JF? Will MS and AW spend the time with the ball and the weights this summer to take their games to the next level?

My starting lineup stands as this:
JC
Ruff
Best big guy in practice
Best kinda big guy in practice
Best not-so big guy in practice

i think DW would be in the starting five. he'd be our best "slasher" type player which we desperately would need with a starting lineup of ruff, crouch, fears, and salley. i also like the idea of putting collins in right away but it all depends on his development as a role player on this deep guard-oriented team.

Just curious - after last years showing with a basically undermanned team, does anyone else view the combination of returning experience, JUCO's and talented Freshman making this team a top 25 caliber team?

I'll take competing for the top of the MVC first, but the way this team is coming together, it seems to me JL is trying to build a unit similar to those they played against at Memphis (NCAA's) and Mississippi St. (NIT). Fast, good shooting, attacking guards with long, lean, athletic bigs and an aggressive defense. I'm not sure if it's just me, but the future is sure looking pretty bright!
