Who is going to Ft. Myers, Florida Nov. 24-26?

Now that Bradley has secured it's place in the College Basketball Experience Classic, they will be playing a game November 16 at either Florida or Syracuse (we should know within a week). Then they will play games November 24-26 on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft. Myers, Florida.

Unfortunately for students, there are classes until Tuesday, Nov. 25, then a break until Dec.1. That will make it tough for students to get away to attend the games in Ft. Myers, unless they cut out of a couple days of classes.

Are there any fans thinking of going to the games Nov. 24-26 in Ft. Myers? What are your travel plans?
Unfortunately, as I posted yesterday, Bradley University is not planning on arranging an official fan trip. But there should be many Bradley fans who make the trip themselves.

I know several people who are planning to go. I have checked out travel options, and from Peoria airport,
Northwest, American and United all have flight deals for $500-$600 per person. All those flights make a stop at Detroit (Northwest), or Chicago (AA, and UA). Delta has flights that stop in Atlanta, but for some reason their flights are priced much higher ($700-$800 pp).

Allegiant Airlines has a flight from Peoria (PIA) to Clearwater (PIE), and then it's a 2 hour drive to Ft. Myers down I-75. The total flight cost is only about $250 per person, if you don't mind driving to Ft. Myers from Clearwater and back. Also, Allegiant does not have a flight every day of the week, so it might be harder to fit their flight schedule with your travel schedule. But it is the lowest cost fight option.

The other option, for us here in Central Illinois, other than driving to Chicago or St. Louis, is to fly Air Tran Airlines out of the Bloomington airport. Air Tran has several flights a day that connect in Atlanta and go directly to the Ft. Myers airport (RSW). There are also several daily flight options returning . I booked flights on Airtran for around $300 per person, but many of the lower price fares on the flights that week are filling up, so if this option works for you, I'd suggest not waiting too long. That week of Thanksgiving is a heavy travel period.

Bradley has not yet announced what hotel they will be staying at in Ft. Myers, but it will probably be a hotel close to the Florida Gulf Coast University Campus (located in the southeast part of Ft. Myers, just south of the airport), where the games will be played in their on-campus arena, the Alico Arena.
I haven't booked a hotel, yet, because I will probably stay in Ft. Myers Beach or on Sanibel Island, which are about 10-15 miles west of the University on the Gulf coast.
But as soon as we know any more of the details of the Bradley trip, we will post them here.

Here is a map of the area. The gray area along the right edge is the Ft. Myers airport, and the FGCU campus is just south of the airport along I-75.

Hadn't thought about it much, but those prices seem pretty reasonable, and I'm always down for a trip to see the Braves play. I'm going to start looking at the possibilities now, will post about it later.

Golfed Saturday at the beautiful Elmwood CC with 2 of my BU travel amigo's, Braves 12 and OB 74. One of the topics of conversation of the day was a trip to watch BU play in Florida. It sounds as if we are going to make that our next road trip (air trip actually) :)

Hopefully some friends from Texas will be able to join us......

If anyone gets any airline info/hotel info before I do please advise.

I will be at Disney for Thanksgiving and am hoping to make the trip down to FGCU. I believe it is a 3-4 hour drive down the state. We'll see as it gets closer and tix go on sale.

I plan on heading to Fort Myers for the entire week. Some golf, warm weather cold brews and BU basketball. I wonder if dogs will find us another 1st class bar like he did in South Padre where our bartender was "Wango" who seemed to bet on any game going on TV.

Might have to make a trip to Florida before I head to Arizona, the real sunshine state, in mid December.

Any chance you could send back some fresh Green Chile? I know it is more of a New Mexican product (I think Albuquerque boasts being the "capital" for it). That stuff works on EVERYTHING! Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner!

But anyway... I agree with you saying (southern) Az is a great sunshine state. Lots of heat, sun and tan bodies down there. (No. Az does get some cold weather)

But no matter... an absolutely beautiful State. And if you could bring me a bag of home-grown (maybe would need to be frozen) green chiles from the Southwest I'd be in heaven!

;)

I live in South Florida, so I will try and make the drive for at least one game. Not sure if I can stay all the days though. Running out of vacation days. :(

MMob, I'll see what I can do about that. I'm up in a little place called Pinetop right now. 7500 ft up and a lot cooler than down in the Valley. In the Winter you can't beat the Phoenix-Mesa area.

Ahhhhh... thanks Chico. You'd be da man!

I remember living in Alba-cracky in the middle of winter and going to visit a friend in Phoenix... it went from pants and jacket to did I pack any shorts and the heck with a shirt - man it is freakin hot down here! LOL!
