Who are the "stars" of the MVC so far this year?

..ISU has had a much better RPI than us when it counts, at the end of the year. ..

sometimes, but not by all that much and not all that often....
it's only happened twice in the past 5 years that ISU's RPI was better, and in both years, it didn't help them one bit because of their terrible SOS...so the RPI ends up being useless if you want to use the ISU scenario...

Here are RPI's of Illinois State and Bradley for each of the past 5 seasons.

BU -- 32, 39, 104, 98, 104 - average 75.4
ISU -233, 138, 37, 47, 151 - average 141.6

I was only discussing the Jank years and that would be the LAST two years. We could both use numbers and stats to prop up our own point, but in the final analysis (March) they ended up with better numbers and better tournaments. In both years, they were one game away from the Big Dance and us...not so close.

Yes it sucks, but they end up in the NIT, one game out of the NCAA, and we end up where?

I am a Valley fan before and after conference play. We need to support our conference foes during this time of the year. Heck, I even pull for SIU, but during Valley play, all bets are off!

I was under the impression that the goal is to win the regular season, win the conference tournament, or get to the NCAA tournament. That's apparently the order that some people use to distinguish between a "successful" season or not. Unfortunately, only a few teams have done these things the past couple years. Jank's illinois state team has not accomplished any of those goals.

I agree, and many here predict that he will be taking another job soon. Why would anyone offer a job to him, with such a record? Other than our tourney run in 2006 we haven't done much with your stated goals either.

Hard to know how good either Missouri State or ISU's players are ...
can you guess how many road games Missouri State has played yet, or ISU?

Can you imagine how good BU's stats would look if all we played were home games?

Wichita State is 7-1 but the 7 wins are against a D-II and six teams whose combined record is 11-40
Missouri State is 7-0 against 7 opponents whose record is 24-24 but 6 are home games
ISU is 7-0 against 7 opponents whose record is 15-37

Fixed...carry on

Fixed...carry on

Not to nitpick - but it isn't truly a quote if you change what someone else has written. It's like you put words in T's mouth and he would have to pull his foot out first (according to most of his detractors).

It took me a minute to figure out your post - it would have been much better if you would have just put a correction in your own words, but then you wouldn't have been able to add your cool little "carry on" huh?

It's nice to engage in conversations with fans from other schools & I think MSU will probably be much better than most thought. ISU, MSU & WSU will all be tough outs, especially on their home courts which brings us full circle back to winning on your home court is much easier & the subject of the post to begin with.

I corrected the post and put the correction in bold which it actually changed to 25-25 tonight vs DI teams. The "carry on" wasn't meant to be cute just me staying out of the conversation on your board other than to correct numbers.

How is Dwayne Lathan not on this list? Hes averaging above 15 points a game and is questionably the most exciting player in the valley...

The way he was coming off the bench in the first five minutes of the game (every time) he would still be coming in off the bench if I was coaching. Don't mess with success! You can be assurred he will be on the floor at the end of games. Hope you all get to see him at his best when he comes to Peoria............the kid can play and he's just a R/S soph.

:p

If you look at James Haarsma's numbers from Evansville they're pretty impressive. If he played for a higher profile team he'd be a candidate. He's averaging right at 14ppg and 8.5 reb.

Ahelegbe gets a lot of love, but when you're averaging less than 15ppg it's really a stretch to be considered for POY...especially when the only other number that's really good is the assist column. Eldridge hurts his team with ill-advised shots and is a notoriously bad defender, but if I were a bettin' man, I'd say he's gonna be your POY because of his firepower.

Ahelegbe is shooting 55% on threes to lead the MVC, so far. If UNI does win the MVC, I think he'll get serious support for the POY.

I think Ahelegbe is far and away the best player in the Valley. Take him away from UNI and they are a Thursday night team.

I think Taylor Brown could be an all-conference player this year if he can stay focused. It appears that he's taken his eye off the ball so-to-speak these last couple of games.

In my opinion Brown has had a very difficult time adjusting to being the center of the opposing team's attention, he also looks confused when plays are run for him. He needs to get back to playing, what I call Marcus Camby, or a more relative comparison, Zack Andrews basketball. Making plays, getting shots, and contributing without the offense being run through him. If he does that, then, yes, he is an all-conference type player.

Agree 100%.
