White, five others skip Hoosiers' practice

The people who wanted and hired Kelvin Sampson are the most inept and are fully responsible forthis mess.
Greenspan (ex-ISU Athletic Director), and maybe a few others should be canned as well.
By the way, Illinois State may soon be looking for an athletic director.

You see T this is something I don't understand. These guys didn't hire Sampson to cheat...they hired him, warned him and expected him to operate above board. Its not like they hoped he would continue to cheat and bring more glory and winning to IU.

They gave a good coach a second chance. Naive possibly to think he wouldn't dare try it again possibly but he ( the AD) didn't want a cheating Sampson they wanted a reformed Sampson.

Fired for what? For believeing (again naively) that a man could change. That a man could learn from his mistake and improve his life/character.

Dumb hire...looks like it.....dishonest, shady, done with ill intent...I don't think so.

So I ask....fire him for what?

Just for the record Pete...not saying I agree with the kids or their choice I just understand it...or at least I recognize this behavior.

No I understood what you were saying and I also can understand the players reaction, not that I really can say it is completely right from where we stand so far away from the situation.

Question for the Forum: What-if Scenario

I do not believe that the players are going to boycot the season and I do not even support the "One Year Mandatory Sentence" rule forcing kids to play a year in college prior to entering the NBA draft. But....

If Eric Gordon decided to boycott the rest of the season, would he not have officially met the "one year in college rule" to participate in the NBA draft this year?

It's a stupid rule and I know kids don't have to go to class their second semester to even participate in the draft, but I was wondering what would happen if they didn't show up to their basketball games?

Yes, Eric Gordon would qualify for the NBA.

In fact, even if he just sat idle for 1 year after high school, that's all he needs to do. The NBA requires that kids be 1 year removed from high school, or 19 years of age. It doesn't require that they attend a college.

O.J. Mayo even considered playing 1 season in the CBA, or Europe, because he did not know if he wanted to go to a college. And many kids who were freshmen last year, and entered the NBA draft last June dropped out of college classes and never finished their first year of college after the basketball season ended. They did so to condition and prepare for the draft.

Thanks for the reply, DaCoach. That just makes the rule even more rediculous because these kids still come to college and waste a student-athlete scholarship on someone that doesn't want to be a student.

Kirk Wessler is a man with many opinions to sell many papers.... I expect (demand) an article by him raking IU-Sampson-players boycotting over the coals.

He IS the ONE voice.

SPEAK!!!

And there is no doubt that the repercussions at IU after Wessler's take on the situation (assuming he says something about it) will be because of what he wrote...

I agree, but they knew his track record...and didn't care....they were worse than using bad judgement.....they were incredibly CARE-less
If a bank hires a guy who just got fired at a bank across town for stealing money, then sure they didn't hire him to do it there, but they could have been a bit wiser.
Anyway, I keep reiterating.....why didn't the very people at IU keep an eye on him, catch him when he first started the same violations, and not after he made over 100 of them, and lastly....why didn't they just can him last summer when it because obvious to everyone he was still committing the same violations?
Answer...he had some good players and they valued the wins more than the integrity, plain as that.

Yes, and I know he does NOT tolerate lying by a head coach, so there should be a pretty powerful column coming.
