He's not leading the band tonight. No offense against my boy E. Loring...I just want to make sure Dr. Vroman is okay. Any inside information? Help!!

wondering the same thing- the team was probably worried as well and may have been rightfully so thinking of dave instead of the game

Aha - this is why we lost.

Just kidding.

On a side note - anyone notice now how the band doesn't always play during all time-outs? They are blaring Zombie Nation (or some other tunes) instead. And then, did anyone notice how the band actually SITS DOWN during those time-outs?

What's going on there?

The band is pretty offended that they've taken away some of their playing time....and rightfully so I think. There are already so many media timeouts and other stuff that the band gets limited playing time already.

So - they sit down in protest.

Tonight's first called time out in the 2nd half was awful.... a minute and a half of zombie nation. Terrible.

LET THE BAND PLAY!

I know they got their 'playing time' taken away. That's why I brought this up. I think a college band at college events is "what it is all about".

I recall going to St Louis back in 1999 for the MW regional championship between Kentucky and Michigan St. People of St louis really had no idea what was going on in shops and stuff close to the arena... as out on the streets, fans in their teams colors were swarming to the arena. Then marching down the street came Michigan St's band... wow! Then came UK's band - OMG! And outside the arena before they let people in for the game, the bands taking turns, fans going nuts.... it was a great atmosphere!

Now let's see here... maybe we can have 15 guys carry huge BoomBoxes playing Zombie Nation all in sync with one another... yea, that would be cool.

Someone should contact BP or KK and encourage more band playing.

I talked to KK about this at the ISU game in Blo-No. He said they experimented with "Zombie Nation" during the Creighton game and it went over well so they stuck with it.

Personally, I'd rather hear the fight song when the other team calls a TO. "Zombie" is a cool song to get people pumped up, but it loses its flavor after awhile. Play the fight song. It's a college game, not the NBA.

Just curious by what KK meant when he said it went over well? If I remember correctly, BU lost. So I'd have to say that experiment didn't go very well in terms of creating a home-court advantage

Bradley losing that game was simply Creighton playing better that night, not because of a song during a TO.

KK said it went over well because the crowd got up and made noise when they played it. My response to that was that the fight song would do the same thing.

I've been browsing these forums for a few weeks, and I figured it was finally time to sign up so I could voice my opinion on this.

I'm in the band, and we're pretty tired of the CD music. I don't think it helps "energize the crowd" any more than us playing would. I mean, getting the fans excited is what we're there for, let us play! It was especially irritating during that timeout in the second half tonight when we didn't know if we were supposed to play or if they were going to do the CD music. Finally, Mr. Loring decides we're going to play, and then right before we are going to play... Zombie Nation comes on. Then they stop it, switch to something else boring I didn't even recognize, and then back to Zombie Nation. So the worst part for us is not knowing if we are playing or if there's going to be CD music.

So yes, we have started sitting as a form of protest. It just seems pointless to have us there and then not use us much. We definitely appreciate the support from all of you who agree on this!

And as mentioned before, yes Dr. Vroman is fine but had another obligation.

I hope you don't sit in protest at the last game. Please get into the game, stand, and cheer. It does help get other fans up and involved. I'll encourage other fans and donors to talk to people at Bradley about letting the band play more.

I'm in the crowd and I'm REAL tired of the CD music....I've been harping on this for years.....when BU goes on a run and FORCES the other team to call time out the band should be ready to fire up the fight song....It's that simple...every other school in the NCAA does it...I'm starting to think that the Zombie Nation song is our school song. Why can we only play our school's fight song at the four minute timeout? Why do we have to ANNOUNCE that it is our school 's fight song? Who makes these decisions and who can we contact to voice our opinions?

I want to go on record saying THANKS to all the band and leaders who do so much to help the atmosphere at Carver.
You are a big part of Bradley's success.

If the band has a beef...I think they SHOULD sit. It is their last game too, thats right...their Senior Night as well.

And y'know what? I don't think that BU and KK could say thankyou any better to the heart of the student section than by telling them that they can't play. They'll love it.

Heck, who needs the band? For that matter, who needs the cheerleaders and the students. Lets play some CD music so that the dance team, that isn't even part of Bradley Athletics, can flop around on the floor. And while we're at it, lets shove the students (especially the loud and boisterous ones) into the top two rows of the upper bowl.

Should the players refuse to go into the game if they don't think they are getting enough playing time?

I agree that I enjoy the band much more than CD music, however sitting and protesting is hardly the way to help yourselves, band members. Are you there to put on a concert? or are you there to actually help the team? you guys have concerts, I've gone to a few.To be honest howver, this isn't YOUR stage, this is the basketball teams. So for you guys to purposely sit and not encourage the team hardly endears me to your cause. Ask yourselves why are we here, and if it's not to encourage the team, then I'm OK with you sitting, but if it's to create a great atmosphere for our team to play in, then get up and be loud.

Comparing apples to oranges in this case just doesn't make sense.

And Yeah, I'd tell the ball players to refuse playing if KK and BU decided that midway through the first half they all had to stop playing so some computer could simulate the rest of the game.

Its not the same thing...and if it was no one would stand for it.

The band is the loudest and most vocal section at Carver (minus the rah rahs). They've been that way for a long time...even when things were pretty crappy years back. Getting snubbed for some boring techno music doesn't exactly endear THEM to BU.

If the band just wanted to cheer on its team and watch a ball game - trust me, they'd have paid the $1 ticket price to sit and have a beer during the game.

The majority of band members come down to Carver to contribute by playing their hearts out for their team - take that away and you pull the enthusiasm for yelling and cheering right out from underneath them.

I'm behind you band.

Like I said, I agree I like to hear the band, ALOT. I think they do a great job getting the student section going, but not cheering because they don't get to play AS MUCH, maybe a timeout or two, is not only detrimental to the team, but IMO is a bit selfish. I hope the band does get to play at all the TO's again, I really do. I just don't think punishing our basketball team by not helping them out because of some decision a white collar guy at carver made is not the way to make their opinion heard. Be loud, be rowdy, show those guys that you ARE there to get the crowd going and support the team and the time and effort they put in so we can watch them represent our school. I'll do the same. And ask yourselves if because I don't get to holler and shout in between songs at a concert, that I shouldn't give you a deserving standing O at the end of a great performance?

I hope at senior night you guys get to play at every opportunity, but if not, be a fan, and not just a fan, but be the loudest, craziest fan you can be. Make it so every day after the game everyone you talk to knows there was a game last night because you're so horse.

Here's to the band, the fan's, and the team. Lets show InSU what everyone else has to be afraid of in arch madness.
