Where does Coach Les Go?

I apologize if speculating on Coach les' future is out of bounds, but I am very curious as to where people think he might coach next.

I could see him getting an assistant coaching position in the NBA. He has plenty of connections to go that route.

Head coaching-wise, he could easily get another mid-major head coaching position. And could even be in the running for a lower-level BCS head coaching position.

Would he take an assisstant role at a BCS school ... would BW bring him on at Illinois or Self at Kansas?

JL would be a great hire for SLU if the school president decides he has had enough of Majerus' antics.
 
Apparently its going to take a while to get his contract sorted out. so that will probably take some of his time....

For those more in the know, do you really think Les wants to be a vagabond mid-major coach? My sense is that maybe the BU job was a one-off in terms of coaching, something with which he hoped to have a career-length tenure. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just can't see him laboring at an Eastern Kentucky or something just for the sake of coaching. Maybe trying to find a position with an NBA team in an admin. role or back into finance? Total guesses--anyone have a more educated take?
 
Not in the know at all but - NBA, other business opportunities, future President of Bradley University. I'm sure he will have success at whatever he decides to do.
 
Jim Les is very smart and talented so I think the only question is what he decides that he wants to do. Did he enjoy coaching more than being a stockbroker? Would he like to start his own business? I'm sure whatever route he decides to pursue that he will continue to be a success.

Oh really?! Now all of the sudden he's a successful coach. This is not directed at you B4L, but now many of the posters here that wanted Les gone believe that he will be successful at whereever he decides to coach next!

Pretty amazing how people's opinions change after one is fired from his job! :roll:
 
I never said he was a "successful coach". :? I said "he will continue to be a success". He succeeded as a player in college, succeeded by making and staying in the NBA, succeeded as a stockbroker, succeeded as a husband and father, and succeeded by taking BU where they hadn't been in 50 years. I would not characterize him as an overall successful coach, but rather as a better than average coach that had moments of tremendous success (and failure) and who was successful in creating a higher level of expectation and excitement that allowed him to become the longest-tenured coach in his conference.

All in all, I would say that Jim Les has experienced more success than the vast majority of Bradley alumni. :)

I'd take his earnings, athletic abilities, and the prestige he brought my alma mater in a heartbeat.

Well again, I wasn't directing my last post at you. But I have noticed an increase in "love" for Les since his firing, even from many in the anti-Les crowd. Just commenting on how many people change their tune once someone gets the ax. And I know for most it wasn't personnal against him, but there has been a lot of kudos towards him coming from people that were not very cordial to him at times this year. Again, I'm not directing this comment towards you B4L, just a general observation. :)
 
JL would make a perfect AD IMO! President would be a stretch because there is more to do with that job then sports and raising money. There is the ability to manage a whole campus of students, parents, alumni and most of all the staff that makes it all happen at a University. I'm not saying he could not but his resume does not shout that he should be President or that he would want that job.

I can't see JL coaching a lower profile mid-major right now. He put so much energy into building BU where it is, that trying to do that again for another school without the legacy and love he has for BU would be probably too much. I could see him becoming an assistant for Jerry Sloan if he ever went back to the coaching profession.
 
One more thing, I would not be surprised to see him as an analyst next year for a major media company. He's bright, articulate, NBA resume and the connections. He also has a contract in hand where he does not have to worry about how he will feed his family.

See, this is what I don't understand... I don't know anybody who wanted Coach Les to fail. (I'm sure some were out there, but I personally knew none). I did, however, know many people who thought he wasn't a great coach and/or was not the right man to take BU to the next level and keep us there.

Just because people wanted a coaching change doesn't mean that they

a) wish JL ill
b) think he wasn't successful (as subjective as the adjective "successful" is, to some folks even a terrible coach earning 6 figures is "successful")
c) don't still appreciate the fact that he was passionate about BU

So what is the point of this little jab at his detractors, exactly? :confused:
