What is going on down on the court? Snell has said twice that Les and one of the Creighton asst coaches are yelling at each other. Merfield? Details please.

not Merf...another one. it started with him and AW towrd the end and was over and JL said something to the asst while walking away and then it got heated.....JL should have just walked away after the handshake instead of continuing on jawing......

JL did the right thing. You can't let an oposing coach get into it with one of your players. JL made it a point after the game to tell that assistant to mind his own business. I loved it. You can say what you want about JL and the current state of BU basketball but this team is very together and they played like it today.

I dont think this was a big deal...something happened...

JL kept his guys back and then the assistant said some to him (not sure what) and JL took offense to it.

to his credit he shook hands with merfeld.

i will say the following.

after the coaches exchange merfeld just looked down and shook his head.

also found it interesting that AW and TB took special time to go see Merf...
Pretty strange for a coach fired at midseason

Props to JL.

"They can't do that to our pledges...only WE can do that to our pledges!"

It wasn't a big deal until this assistant got into it with Dyricus as well and then both Taylor and Drew AFTER the game and then said individual got into it with fans and had to be led into the tunnel by security...

Extremely classless but what else would you expect from Creighton!

Ok I completely disagree with this assessment.

AW and went over and explained to the coach what happened and they looked fine..

and as i said, taylor and andrew were over there talking to merfeld.

If this wasnt the case, you would have to ask what were the BU players doing over at the CU bench.

I maintain, much ado about nothing...

Nice win for all.

I don't know what vantage point you had but the guy clearly had words with multiple players and had a security guy behind him when he left the floor and he went so far as to point up at some above the tunnel when he went off the floor and went as far as to come back out of the tunnel to continue the discussion...

I wouldn't have been paying any attention to it but I saw quite a few people pointing in that direction and then saw this clown...

The coach is Steve Lutz btw in case anyone noticed...

And from what I gathered given both instances, Greg McDermott was pretty hot about what both Ashford and Lutz were doing that set off the altercation...

Oh, and asked to give a little insight on the situation after the game, Drew clearly deflected it as he didn't want to talk about what happened at all...if it was nothing, he would have said as much...and Les basically stated that it was in fact something...

I applaud Les though...not only did he stick up for his guys, but in this situation he showed a whole lot of fire I hadn't seen in some time...

Yes he did have words, but it was solved when Andrew and Taylor went over to talk to Merfeld, which you are still ignoring.

I ask again, what in the world would BU players, one of whom is hurt, be doing over at the other teams bench?

Either inciting a problem (which they absolutely were not) or talking to their old coach.

Andrew is not going to be over talking to one coach while going to war with another...

I still say solved and over.

That makes absolutely no rational sense. Obviously, several have pointed out that this jerk of an assistant coach crossed the line. Whether or not BU players were chatting with an old friend and former coach (Merf) is irrelevant. Les did what any coach should do and, apparently, CU's head coach was not pleased with this id!ot Lutz as well.

Give it a rest, friend.

NO. I am not criticizing anyone on our side.

I say again, when andrew went over to see Merfeld lutz was there too and they talked and whatever it was...was over with..

I don't think Les did anything wrong either.

You, give it a rest, friend

I am glad we're all at least still 'friends'.

:D

I posted this in another thread.

Here is what I saw. (privileged to find an open row of seats right at mid court 3rd row )

There was the loose ball scuffle. For whoever knows why....the CU staff and bench players immediately ran out to form a huddle right around AW who was still on the ground. Why did they have to do this? I have no idea.

The CU coach said something to AW....and AW turned around and......don't want to bash on our players....but AW said a choice four letter word in the sentence "Shut the **** up." (This is only what 3 of us all agreed we saw)

The coach started to jaw at warren and follow him as Les was walking to check on Warren because he looked shook up. This is when JL and Lutz exhanged words.

After the game....Warren and the coach looked fine.....when Les and him shook hands...something was said and Luts ripped his hand away from Les....then Les was walking to locker room and Lutz continued to talk and Les turned around and gave the "you want to go?" look.

Personally I don't really care as I am not a sensitive person, but I love the fact that JL was standing up for his players and was showing he cares.

Also when Dy hit a late three (I think it was Dy) Les threw his fist and went nuts. He looked like nothing mattered more, and it got me fired up.

I'll take Les any day to be my coach!

Oh and McD yelling box out every time our player was about to shoot a FT was annoying.....like his players are really going to forget to boxout.

I will add. I did see the coach say to Les. "Are you going to let your players talk to me like that"

Good for AW. :) That coach needed to shut the **** up. Opposing coaches should not initiate a confrontation with anyone but his own players. Reminds me a little of that whiny punk Alford at New Mexico...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1GexPBeT4Y&feature=related

I agree opposing coaches shouldn't initiate anyting but quite frankly a player shouldn't be saying that either...walk away and be done....why let anything escalate? It's not a sign of weakness either...I would rather we do our talking by playing on the court and winning games....as far as I'm concerned there is way too much trash talking in all sports

I have to side with the player in this situation. They are the ones putting everything on the line physically and emotionally. An assistant coach, especially a first year, low-level assistant, should definitely have kept quiet and not tried to further provoke a player who was just involved in a physical skirmish on the court. Andrew is as nice a guy, and as mild mannered as any D1 player. For him to react, and I did not see or hear him say anything, is forgiveable. I think any player would have reacted the way AW did.
