What is wrong with Sammy?

I think I'll trust all the multiple medical specialists locally and elsewhere that have cleared him to try to play. He needs to find out if he can play before it's too late this season.

I mean from a coaching/playing standpoint. At some point his liablilties outweigh his contributions.

Judging by what we've seen from Sammy thus far, I don't think anyone would have a problem with him deciding to rest and heal and prepare for a 5th year. He's won 1 game for us already, which is 1 more than he'd have won not trying to play. His veteran leadership and mentorship for Donivine Stewart would be invaluable next season.

Guys sammy has to want to come back next year too....

Lets not forget, at some point we were all ready to leave college too...

Not saying this is the case here (I don't know him) but he wouldnt be wrong for wanting to go on with his life.

From what I hear you never know when his ankles will hurt. sometimes they are good and sometimes not....no notice really and no rhyme or reason

On the surface I would tend to agree, but he seemed to play a bit better on shorter turnarounds last week, didn't he? Sadly, I think it's going to be hit-or-miss as far as his health all season.

True... But his worst game was his last game and I think that the number of minutes that he has logged caught up with him.

I don't think we're anywhere near that point. If we lose SM for an extended period of time I think it will be an accomplishment to finish .400

I agree with you amckillp. I will hold judgement untill after I see how he plays the next couple games:!: I hoping it was just a off night:!: But I side with you BJD that there has to be some relief/rest for him in playing time or there will be liabilties from him or any of the players playing over 32 min's a game:!:

While hindsight is 20/20, I would not have played Sammy against EIU and given his ankles a rest after a 4 games in a very short period. I would have let DSE and WL handle the point. One would have thought that they could handle the job agaist the panthers. Maybe not ... or maye we would have won the game with Sammy sitting out.

agreed...
I am not trying to critique JL..but he could have taken him out...obviously he didnt feel dse or whomever was better...

NOW you could ask the question....how in the world did we lose two supposedly good point guards in eddren and darian norris

What is this talk of SM redshirting? He has one bad game and we're ready to redshirt him?

SM's not close to 100%, but he isn't redshirting. Yes, he sucked pondwater Wed night, but he's still our best offering at PG. His career performance shows last game was an abberation. He'll be ok. Unless he's hurting far worse than we think or something worse happens injury wise.

And facts are facts, WL or even DSE aren't ready to run the point full time right now. Someday, maybe. But clearly not now.

To be clear I'm not "talking about redshirting SM" just trying to figure out when a decision would have to be made, if indeed there is any grounds to make one.

SM has not been close to 80% this year, period. I can see him RSing and coming back strong next year. Nothing wrong with that especially since a SM not at 90% is not doing anyone any favors especially himself.

I'd love to have Sammy this year or next year....whichever he/coaches/doctors thinks is best. Pairing a healthy SM with a healthy TB is very appealing though. It's what I was looking forward to this year. And with DS on the team next year, Sammy wouldn't have to worry about running the point for so many minutes a game.

You can tell Sammy is not healthy though, because I don't think I've seen the teardrop move he does in the lane when he gets by someone once this year. Granted Sammy isn't a blow by you type PG, but there were a lot of times he got by someone just enough and sank that little tear drop he does so well. Because of his unhealthy ankles he has not been able to do that, and has relied on making 3 pointers.

He is tough though, most kids wouldn't be playing through that. I would hate to see Sammy's final year end with him not being able to play it 100%. So I hope the right decision is made for everyone involved here, but especially for Sammy.

Im with some of the posts above...I dont know whether there is legit talk of a redshirt or not...

if JL's job was secure (and Sammy wanted to) you would redshirt him immediately, if he isnt healthy.

But I don't think JL knows JL's job security....

Here is my scary thought.

Where are all our new coaches/administrators coming from..... is it fair to say the east coast/Ivy League Schools or areas with Ivy League Ideals?

What is the general description of an Ivy League School....Great Academics and Non-Competing Athletics................

I heard someone mention that this new arena is being planned as the future home of a downgraded Bradley basketball program!
