I've posted these numbers before, but here they are again.....
I'm not sure how that translates into "almost all the post season games draw 5000 or so or less".
I don't think ANY regular season or postseason game belongs in the new arena.
amen.
It seems pretty apparent the BU is going to play one regular season game in the new arena. I dont really see anything coming from the athletic administration that is disputing that.
Bottom line is they need to have those PSL sold and the best way to move those PSL licenses is give those willing to put out the money an incentive... a yearly Mens Home Basketball regualar season game.
I just have a difficult time believing they will sell all 1000 of those licenses with the incentive being womans vball or basketball.
If some individuals are upset about not being able to go to a game and refuse to renew season tickets over this, BU probably will not be overjoyed but likely the ones cancelling are not high end donors and also are not who would be willing to give money for those licenses. So if they lose some, probably not a huge deal, because the "money" will continue to come in.
I dont think it has anything to do with crowd size, it has simply to do with the licenses and making money donors happiest.

I have been a season ticket holder for a long, long, long time:!: I buy my seats and pay my maintenance fees to see all BU's home games in my seats at the CC:!: Also in purchasing season tickets comes my entitlement to purchase any post season home games in my season ticket seats. The red and white scrimmage and any exhibition games are a different story:!: I do pay extra to attend all of them each year:!: The facility was built to house women games and to be used as a practice place for both women and men. Any change in this is just BS and just another way to scam the season ticket holders:roll:
Not directed at you but HOGWASH.....IF thats how BU thinks and shows the money donors love while cr@ppin on the "little" guy I'll lose respect for them real fast.
I understand money and taking care of donors but NOT at the expense of fans that have been loyal to the program for 10, 20, 30 and 40+ years.
I don't care HOW much money you raise if you don't have a stable base of fans from ALL donation and income levels you might as well start a polo team becuase the hoops team will crash real fast.
The ONE thing you DON'T do is deny anyone willing to buy a ticket a chance to see a game..... period..... end of discussion.
BU hasn't been successful all these years becuase of deep pockets...they have been successful becuase we have an undeniable family atmosphere where once you are a Brave (fan OR player) you are a Brave for life.
And in MY family we don't deny Uncle Joe a seat at the Thanksgiving table becuase he didn't or couldn't fork over money to help cover the cost of the Turkey.
Couple of things then:
Why does BU want to play any Mens games in the new arena? If it isnt to make the individuals(donors) who will buy the licenses happy, then why? It makes no other sense to move to a smaller arena when you already out sell that smaller arena for any game at Carver?
And playing a little devils advocate. If you sell out Carver at 11K+ isnt that next person being denied a ticket because of the lack of available seats?
Anyway, I think this is nothing but making those who are willing to buy a license happy or to just justify the $1000.00 that must be spent to have the right for a seat in the new arena.
And it really seems by moving even one home game to this arena the BU administration is doing exactly as you say you would never do...providing a game with limited access for those who have been loyal for years and years.
It is very apparent that BU's concern is NOT those individuals.. unless they are willing to pay for the license.
I can not see any other reason to move a game to campus, well other then now they can and try to flex muscles at the Civic Center.
there are other issues such as concessions revenue, overhead costs of playing at the Civic Center, and lastly the benefit of filling the place for a lesser desirable opponent instead of playing in a downtown arena with half the seats empty.
Also - the on-campus arena is "our baby' - so let's give our baby a chance and see how she does...
So really it all goes back to revenue regarding wanting to play on campus. Whether its concessions, overhead, license fees, making donors happy this decision is for the most part money related.
I dont buy the half empty thing, if this program wins and wins consistantly EIU on a Tuesday will draw. It might not draw like SIU on a Saturday night but it would draw well. I guess the smaller setting gives a "louder" environment but if you can put 8500 in Carver even with overhead etc costs I have to beleive you come out ahead money wise.
Bottom line BU is going to do as they please and it appears from all communication they will play atleast one regular season game in the new arena. Regardless of what appears a negative reaction from the general community.

If they want a mob of 7,000 angry fans tearing down the walls of the new facility, they'll have the ISU men's game there. Perhaps it's the ISU women's game they're referring to.
Hmmm, are you saying, unlike Obama, BU should favor "The Rich"?.
Is this ticket redistribution, or redistribution of wealth in reverse?
Personally, I think Bradley would draw more that 4,500 for The New Jersey Institute of Technology
Agreed. I get why people are upset by this, but let's see what the story is after they've given it a try.

All I think is they are trying to sell those licenses and it makes it a whole heck of a lot easier to sell them if you give those buying a license a pretty big incentive... a regular season Mens Basketball game.
And btw exactly where is it that BU already doesnt favor the rich, the more you are willing to give, pay in maintence, you have access to the best seats? Any athletics department is going to "take care" of those who take care of them. Bradley is no different.
Please, let's not give it a chance. If they wanted the arena for men's games they needed 8,000 at the very least. This arena is not for the men's basketball program to play in. It is a nice practice facility, and they can play preaseason exibition games there. That is all it should be used for as far as the men's program.
