I went on a college visit to Bradley today (saw the new rec facility, NICE!) And our STUDENT guide said that there's a rumor that the home Illinois State game is going to be held at the new arena. WTF!? Can anyone confirm or deny?

Sounds like the typical student rumor mill to me (like when some claimed Britney Spears was enrolling at BU, as if she could get in ;)). I don't think anyone would be dumb enough to put the ISU game in the new facility.

If they want a mob of 7,000 angry fans tearing down the walls of the new facility, they'll have the ISU men's game there. Perhaps it's the ISU women's game they're referring to.

haha, maybe just a point of perspective on how clueless the students at the campus sometimes seem to be. I was on a plane heading back to peoria when I just happened to be sitting next to a bradley student. We began to talk, and she began to say that this year was big for mens basketball because they have a brand new on campus arena, to play their games at. I would just take everything with a grain of salt that is said by any non basketball fan student.....

From the student guides I knew, some were decently knowledgeable about BU hoops, but some were not interested at all. Im guessing the guide that talked about the isu game was one of the ones that doesn't really know but still has to talk about the arena anyway.

I have heard no such thing, but I also would highly doubt that we would play a game that would sell out the Civic Center in a 4500 seat arena.
Panic if you want, but I advise ignoring this rumor until it gets confirmed...

ok, i'm clueless. why is it a bad thing to play in the new arena?

The arena only holds 4500 (PCC holds 11000) and there are a few thousand more season ticket holders than new arena capacity. And season ticket holders believe they are paying big $ for tickets and maintenance to guarantee they go to all regular season home games and a guaranteed window to purchase post season games.

A mob of 7,000 angry fans (mentioned earlier in the thread) would refer to the amount of fans you'd be depriving of seeing the rivalry game live. The new stadium seats about 4,500 from what I've heard, while Carver holds 11,000+. Do I have my facts right?
Besides that, it is electric and rockin' when the 'Birds come to Carver Arena.

BU even passes on post season tournament games because of unavailability of a home arena when Ice Capades are in town...so I'd say it's a great blessing we now have an alternative

I believe there's a difference between an "alternative" and stating that all postseason home games will be played at the smaller arena, no matter if the PCC is available or not.

I think if we got U of I in an NIT game, they'd probably strike a deal to have it at the Civic Center..otherwise, since almost all the post season games draw 5000 or so or less, then I am OK having them on campus

ALTERNATIVES:? Wouldn't you think if thats the case, then why wasn't the new campus site built to at lease house the number of season ticket holder's:?

I've posted these numbers before, but here they are again.....

I posted the last three postseasons' attendance at Carver Arena in another thread......

5,928.....2008-09.....CIT.....4 games

6,851.....2007-08.....CBI.....3 games

8,304.....2006-07.....NIT.....1 game

4,472.....Lowest

9,014.....Highest

6,571.....Average attendance

Only three of the last eight postseason games at Carver were under 6,100. I'm sure these numbers are closer to the actual attendance than regular season games, since they are not part of the season ticket package.

I'm not sure how that translates into "almost all the post season games draw 5000 or so or less".

I don't think ANY regular season or postseason game belongs in the new arena.

As someone who hears a number of the tours, their information is accurate maybe 20% of the time, and I'm being as generous as I possibly can.

That said, their job is to sell the school. And by the time those future student arrive on campus, they probably don't remember much from their tour.

Though they try hard and do a good job otherwise, they don't always speak the truth.

I applied for that tour guide dealio and made it to the final round and was cut with 20ish people left....(probably because of my grades sophomore year ) I would have said BU has won 32 national championships.

I felt like I would dominate tours and up enrollment 40% and I am from P-town so I have that knowledge too!
