Wessler rips the Braves

"Rips" is such a harsh word....

More like frustration and exasperation they can be so inconsistent at times...

Using terms like "Bad", "Ugly", "flat", "miserable", "total collapse", "embarrassment", and "bad" seem like harsher words than my assessment- those are Kirk's words, not mine.

And I thought Bradley played very well in the second half, but Kirk couldn't find one nice thing to say even about the second half.

Let's agree that nowhere in his column did he use the term "Tremendous". :)

You know, what really gets me is this not the first time this team, and especially the senior leadership has admitted they played poorly and they let mistakes get the best of them. Earlier in the season it was WL that still was trying to play his way out of funks when his game wasn't on track, which is where he would let those bad starts get in his head. Today it seemed like the whole team let their poor shooting get in their head, and this time they dug a hole that was too deep to dig out of. The same thing almost happened against ISU red a couple of weeks ago, but at least they were able to pull of the victory.

What a shame too considering what a show DSE put on in the second half, and considering how jacked up the crowd was as well. Well, maybe this loss will spur the Braves onto an unexpected victory against the Redbirds this Wednesday night, as I had Bradley with no chance of beating them on their home court. A win there makes up for today's loss in a heart beat.

he seems to be especially harsh on our big guys...but they were no worse in the 1st half than anyone else -
and note that if anyone did play some defense in the 1st half - Tuttle & Pehl were all but ineffective and it was their guards shooting the lites out...so please don't dump on the "bigs" Kirk - they did NOT cost us this game any more than half a dozen other factors.

In the 2nd half- our bigs didn't get to touch the ball that much to make up for the bad half like the guards got to...did you notice that our guards had ONLY 3 assists in the entire game!!!

NOT ONE assist went from a guard to a "big" for a basket until almost 27 minutes had passed...why if we struggle from the outside - do we bail on any attempts to get the ball in thepost and keep trying more and more outside game??
Didn't someone once say if you keep trying the same things over and over and they keep failing....this is why we can never put two good halves together!
...indeed the ONLY two assists that Bradley had in the entire first half plus the first 7 minutes of the 2nd half...were by WILL EGOLF (2) and Jake (1)..and not one single assist was recorded by any guard on our roster until only 13 minutes were left in the game!

I agree but it's a team game and it's also hard to get assists when the four frontcourt players take just 34% of the shots the shots (19/56) - many of those from outside the paint and three guards take 66% (37/56)

If Pickett insists on taking fadeaways and Egolf insist on missing running layups, I don't have a problem with our two best scorers (and Eastman, if you factored him in) taking 66% of the shots.

When our guards took over in the second half, thats when we scored points. Walt and DSE are so much better than our big men that if we had balanced shot attempts it would not be playing to our strength.

It is hard to get assists... when you have Prosser (who can't score) and WE and TP going 0 for their first 11....

Do not totally disagree, but I am not seeing where we get the bigs the ball in a way to make a hoop...obviously I take exception to saying Prosser can't score...

Get the big guys the ball in a way that they can score...

No one shot well in the 1st half...

JP is going to have to start scoring before I take exception to FWO's opinion.

I must be mistaken, somehow I didn't think you were reading any articles written by KW. Silly me wrong again.

I never said that. Where did you get that from. I read whatever I can read about Bradley and college basketball.
I no longer subscribe to the PJ Star. Maybe that is what you recall.

My point is, to score....you need the ball and need it it a way that you can score...Prosser took two shots and made a tip in off an offensive board...

In the games I have seen he has trouble scoring no matter how he gets the ball. Not a knock on JP, just expected more after his heavy recruiting. Hope he can turn it around in his remaining time on the hilltop.

That will work for this year as Geno has done a great job coaching up to what we have to work with. But if we are going to take that next step up, we need lot's of shooters and fast! You can't win championships even with two great players when you have nothing aroiund them, though our wins have occurred when at least a couple of other players have stepped up to contribute. We just don't have enough good shooters to do this consistenly enough, but we have played better than I thought we would by this time of the season.

It was a good article by KW, but obviously he is giving Geno the benefit of the doubt as he is only in his second season as he did not put any of the blame on him (not that he should have). Obviously a game like this in year 6 or 7, however will warrant a different response from him. ;)
