Respectfully disagree as well. His announcing was entertaining, but he didn't really offer much as far as insight into the game as a color commentator. Guys like Steve Stone and Bob Brenly offer much more to the viewer/listener IMO. Statistically he measures up with any 3B in the HOF from his era, but that's another argument for another day. Gonna miss ya Ronnie.
Kind of reminds of Dick Butkus when he was a color commentator for the Bears in the 80's and early 90's ("Drat! Rats!").
RIP Ronnie!
Hmmm, sounds a lot like Tom Thayer..... FUMBLE! or BALL! BALL! lol
Oh yeah. Him too.But at least Thayer brings more to the table than Butkus did.
Cubs players are requesting that Ron Santo's replacement in the broadcast booth be a former player-

Da Coach, am I reading this wrong - Cubs players are requesting?
I think it's WGN radio that wants a former player and their "preference" is a former Cubs player.
I would say 95% of the the color commentary guys in baseball are former players.
A friend emailed the link to me and I just took his word that it suggested the Cubs players were asking it be a former Cub, and the title seemed to suggest likewise-
"Cubs demand former player joins radio broadcast"
But now that I read the short article more closely, I think you are right it only suggests that WGN is requesting that, not the players.
