2 years of eligibility?

Unfortunately, he has only 1 year of eligibility. He has played 4 years at UC-San Diego, and because of the new NCAA rule this year granting all NCAA players an extra year of eligibility, he will get one more year.

The NCAA has also ruled for athletes who use the extra year of eligibility, if the school chooses to grant them a scholarship, it will not count against the maximum number of allowable scholarships (13). It's not clear if the NCAA intended this exception to apply only if the player returned for the extra year at the initial school, or if it will apply also at the school they transfer to.
If it does, Bradley would still have 5 available scholarships if they choose to use them all.

PJ Star article about why Mikey Howell chose Bradley-
https://www.pjstar.com/story/sports...plains-joining-bradley-basketball/7233485002/

Howell said his finalists were Bradley, Texas A&M, Montana State, Northern Kentucky, University of Idaho and BYU from a long list of programs that were chasing him.
"I had a lot of schools contact me and make pitches," Howell said. "But Bradley felt so family-oriented and that really mattered to me, I wanted to be part of that."
"First and foremost he's a great kid, just loved coaching him for five years, " UC San Diego coach Eric Olen said. "He did a lot for our program. Bradley is getting a really talented point guard who is about as good a passer and playmaker as you're going to find. He's a special player."
"Mikey has an unusual ability to manipulate defenses with his passing and vision, and that part of his game will translate to any conference he plays in. He gave us a lot of great basketball, and he'll do that for Bradley, too."

Beat out some nice competition for him. Glad to see that, and looking forward to see what he brings to BU, and certainly a position we need help at!

Very exciting ... seems like a perfect fit for BU!

Quick question on the scholarship grid - I see he's marked under "extra scholarship". Is that just for one year or will he actually replace one of the guys who left? Apologies if I missed a discussion on that, but I am definitely curious. Thanks!

Not a bad first signing. Especially if he can get the ball to guys at a time and place to score. If his scholarship is extra, just gravy on top.

Ok seems like a decent get. But we need some outside shooters now (besides Ville and Mast) for him to get the ball to.

Good start!

Between Mikey's passing skills and Rienk's, I expect to see the ball moving around faster than defenses can react. And I agree, let's find that awesome shooter put the finishing touch on those great passes. Welcome to Bradley, Mikey. There are thousands of fans very excited to watch you and your teammates play -- hopefully in person!

Wardle outstanding transfer get /played heavy minutes /runs plays!! that maybe is what was lacking last year (true point guard)- great half court game controls tempo ,Mikey tutoring the Frosh recruit good start to replenishing roster
