I voted for JW, a Big & WL; because it was the only choice that included JW. I don't think that we can get a better big better than JW who can be an impact player. JL doesn't like to play Bigs anyway so the Big that we get better be very good. We have bigs sitting on the bench. I think that's why it's hard to get a big to come to BU. I still can't believe that as poor as our inside game bigs were that JP as an all stater wasn't good enough to contribute. JMHO!

Tornado didn't bring it up, direct your comments and ire towards Houston.

Hey Amp, Houston brought up DC in the context of what he wants out of a real big and nothing more. T then spinned it to something else.

BTW....I want a Mike Williams kinda of big!

Which big sitting on the bench would you have played? Curious minds want to know. My complaint is that he does not give them much of a leach out there but then again he sees them everyday at practice and may know a thing or two more then us.

my point was -- had we not signed him, then at that late stage we'd have gotten nobody better, and then who would have filled in for Matt Salley when Matt was in foul trouble?

I simply want a player who is a basketball player. A guy who when he is on the court goes to work, wants to win, plays hard and has already come to Bradley with skill.

Honestly if anyone knew that Collins would be what he looked like yet played like he had never put a basketball shoe on, I think most would have said lets just pass on him. Yes he cleaned up Salley, but dang it atleast Salley played hard, not always smart, but hard and he gave a **** and he did have a little skill.

I would have loved to have had Salley available this year and let him play off of Egolf and Brown. He didnt have the height but he had the desire and atleast some basketball skill.

I suppose he is who you get late in the game but Wilson and Brown came late in the game also.

I also want to bring up one other thing missing here. Jordan Prosser. What happens if he has taken his redshirt year adjusted and can have an immediate impact?

Does his work, skill and ability make it less of an absolute need to bring in a 5? I think a true 5 is manditory. But sometimes my thinking forgets about Prosser, maybe his size will make a true difference and help especially Egolf when it comes to controling the paint.

I guess what I am saying that maybe all is not completely lost if Les cant get that true 6'8+. The 6'8+ would make life a lot easier though.

I never saw AT enough to know why he didn't play; other than he looked lost. But he could have rebounded by just being tall. WE never got a rebound and he never shot from outside which was supposed to be his expertise. I would have liked to have seen MK. When he started to look good, he never played again. True I don't see the guys in practice; but "we talkin' 'bout practice". If it was because they didn't play defense, none of the inside guys played defense.

fansince55 MK and AT were in no way going to improve our D! I genuinely like MK but go back and look at some tapes even the Iowa State game and tell me he can play D. AT granted has the potential but he could not string more then 2 minutes of consistent play. I was one voicing for JL to go big but once I took a look at the old games I knew why.

I have seen all but the freshman from last year practice numerous times.

I would still rather see AT than SS. although all our bigs miss bunny after bunny after bunny.

defense is ok against our other "bigs" lol

Will may not have been the most aggressive rebounder, but this statement is far from accurate.
Will averaged 4.4 rebounds per game, despite playing only 22.5 minutes per game, 7 minutes less than any other starter. Also, he was coming off a serious knee injury, which affects jumping and the ability to push for position. In rebounds per minute played, Will was a close 2nd among the regulars to Taylor Brown.

And though Will wasn't a perimeter threat, since Bradley had enough others who were, he didn't take many outside shots.
However, let's not suggest he wasn't a good shooter. Will's Field Goal percentage was .525, by far the best among the regulars, and 5th best in the MVC. Also, Milos is not a 4 or 5, and would not have gotten more playing time even if Will wasn't playing as much.

I wasn't knocking WE. I think he is a good shooter; but JL never let him shoot 3s. He wanted him to rebound and WE is a 3 trying to play 4 or 5. It's also hard for a team to rebound when you have 3 or 4 guards playing at a time; a 3 (WE) playing a 5; and a 3 (TB) playing a 4. We have no "real" 4s or 5s on the team. AT is a tall 3 that can't handle the ball and MK is a questionable 4. That's why I think we need JW, and a REAL Big. JW could be a 4 if he wanted to be; but we need a 5 or a REAL 4 to go with JW or possibly JP.

Will is not a 3 he is a 4...as is Jordan...TB is a 3...JW would be a 3 although he could play the 4..

Not hard to rebound with guards...just gotta BOX OUT :)

I'm also going to add a bit more to why our rebounding was not good. WE had to guard a bigger guy then him and so we continuously had to bring someone over to double up and this allowed teams more times then not to come in from the weak side and pick up an easy offensive rebound. If we defended the weak side then this again left someone open to hit a 3. A guy that can hold their own against an opposing big will make a huge difference in our defensive rebounding numbers. It's hard to box someone out when they already have position on you.

  • 6'8" - 6'9"
  • Long arms
  • Has to run, jump a little too
  • Don't want him to be too heavy or he will be a statue
  • Doesn't need to shoot, just defend, rebound, and get put backs
  • Could be from Europe or perhaps China
The pros recruit China, why not colleges?

The 4 position is a power position. Bradley has no power players other than possibly JP. I would say that MK and WE are similar players; but neither one is a true 4 just because they can't play the 3 position. That's one of the problems with Bradley's bigs. JL recruits bigs that can't handle the ball or play D well enough to play the 3; and don't rebound aggressively and aren't physical enough to play the 4. That's why they get in foul trouble and sit most of the time.
